You mean like how the leaks regarding iPhone 4S having a tapered design that case manufacturers started producing cases for the new design ahead of launch, only to find a released phone identicle to iPhone 4?
Seriously, stop with the speculations.
1. The external antenna iPhone 4 design was plagued with scandal of handheld reception issues enough for Apple to offer a free case program: I doubt they will repeat the design.
2. There is no better way for your company to lose stock value and investor confidence now that Steve Jobs have passed on, and you show a complete lack of innovative flair by repeating a design in his absence.
3. Apple is invested in a million/billion dollar law suit re: intellectual property rights with competitors. Do you think they would give these copycats a head start by teasing a leak of their new design?
4. By measure of precedence, no previous next gen iPhone has looked like the preceding generation, what makes people think the iPhone 5 will resemble 4/4S?
Wow... you came damn close to hitting nearly everything I said in my post:

Also forgot, "These are FAKEs. Apple would have sent out C&D letters if they were real."
In B4 the non-believer - in denial - "Why a taller iPhone???!!!?!!!?" crowd shows up.
MacRumor crowd lately:
"Why a taller iPhone?"
"I am still hoping for a 4.3 wider iPhone!!!"
"It looks like the 4S! I want a dramatic redesign!"
"It doesn't look comfortable!"
"Tim is doubling down on secrecy! These are fakes!"
"Why is the headphone jack on the bottom? That's so stupid and asymmetrical!"
"The design is awful! I'll be sticking with my 3GS!"
"Steve NEVER would have allowed this!"
"I am getting an Android phone!"
"This is all some kind of trick to throw us off of the real design!"

They moved the headphone jack probably because the smaller dock connector allows for more room on the bottom. Also:

I see allot of people say"Steve left a schedule for the next 5 years" blah blah blah, and who said that they are obligated to follow what Steve told them??? Who said that they will follow it?did they sign a contract or something?
+without Steve around you can imagine how many things that he was opposed to do they can now move ahead and do them?Tall iphone hell ya,a voice echoes "but Steve pulled this one off as an ugly design" and another voice replies "Steve WHO?"
when the cat' s away, the mice play.
Cheers.![]()
Anyway, back to the original post and the "Protective Shield" matter.
Could this be an attempt to make the phone waterproof?
NOW THAT WOULD BE COOL!![]()
What standards? This is a rumor site full of individuals reacting their own way to said rumors. Everyone is free to post their beliefs, so long as they do not personally single out, offend, or break other rules put in place by the site owners.
Even if I don't agree with them, I usually respect an opposing opinion. I am adult enough to respect your opinion, without resorting to placing a label on you.
More On topic....
Corporations have used such tactics in the past, and if you assume apple is above that, people in your situation would be experiencing the intended level of expectation.
Corporations have also leaked misinformation to watch were it leaks from, in order to mole out squeaky individuals that they employ. Doubling down on secrecy may involve such tactics too.
Apple has the money to spend on fake prototyping to achieve such mole hunts, thus why I would not put it past them.

I gotta say, the reason why I don't think this is legit is becuase the security at Foxconn can't possibly be this bad!
What doubling down of secrecy?
It's a huge marketing tease. It's really the equivalent of, say BMW or Audi, decking their "test" cars out in camo a couple years before intro and then bit by bit removing it as the car's launch date grows closer.
