Didn't buy the iPhone 5 and looks like I won't buy the iPhone 5S either...

I am quite disappointed.

Since when is being rich a bad thing? You guys talk about gold like its garish and snobbish. How about just owning any smart device is snobbish? Talk about first world/entitlement issues. If the color doesn't agree with you don't buy it. But to make fun if people who may like this product, while you don't, smacks of "elitism" we are all allowed to have an opinion but let's try to not make fun of others who don't share your POV.

Kind of like making fun of Samsung for using plastic on their phones, oh wait...

I'm glad to hear Apple is offering more color choices. They sell so many iPhones, that they should make more of an effort to offer variety.

As for the colors themselves, I'll wait to see it in person before declaring my opinion. So much can depend on the lighting of the photograph. Even if I don't like a color, so what, others may love it - to each their own. Choice is great.

For those complaining about innovation: first, there is much more to these phones than just the color, so to judge Apple on their lack of innovation because you don't like one color is silly. Second, everything involved in making something like an iPhone involves innovation and pushing the boundaries of technology and manufacturing. Who knows how much effort went into making sure the colors were just right, my bet is a lot of effort.

All that said, I kind of like what I see in the gold pictures.

I don't quite see how this would fit.

1. The design is two-toned. This means that the edges would be gold and the screen black. That's a really big contrast and I don't think it would look nice.

2. The leaks of the sim tray and buttons showed a very different color, more bronze or champagne. Those images looked more real than this one.

Conclusion: I think the rumour is true, but the image false. The real color will be more bronze/champagne like.

....
If Apple is really releasing a gold/champagne iPhone I'll yell "ABANDON SHIP!" and fear for the future of Apple (-products). Stocks would fall dramatically since it's not just a "gold/champagne colored iPhone", it's a statement, a statement current investors would not share.

Many Apple "investors" are high speed computers just trying to beat each other by nano seconds in the tidal energy of the stock market.

I was really hoping this was a joke the first time I read about it. Who the hell wants a gold colored iPhone? It looks so horrible.

Oh boy. The golden Apple iPhone is really happening? Why Apple, why?!

You could say the same thing about black and white for North America!!
This is coming from someone who isn't really interested in the champagne color. Just have to respect we ALL have different tastes. As long as you can get the flavour you want why hate on what others want? (I know, I know... it looks a bit hideous).

Apple has always been about (used to) teaching their design aesthetics to the average consumer, not the other way around.

This is a trend to worser things. Why doesn't Apple just focus on building products that actually make a difference? Focusing on gold this, iPhone 5A, 5B, 5C does not sound like Apple at all.

"Don't get up in my George Foreman!"

Least it'll match some people. :p

Years ago I had numerous Marantz amplifiers that were in champange colour brushed aluminium.

Really cool looking before everything audio came in black only.

If true, I guess it will sell by the shed load!

Not all come in black only.

My Accuphase monoblocks are still in champagne colour. :)

Finally a phone to compliment my teeth.

I will though, have to wait for the accessory makers to start selling the gold chain case with the Diamonique studs.

The Gangsta in me salutes them.

(why no Gangsta imoticons?)

Keep dreamin.

Clearly unlike you that's what I'm doing; I'm imagining what it'll be like exactly, and I think it'll be subtle enough to be attractive. Leaked shots of the black iPhone 5 looked awful, but the final product, fully assembled and in non-blurry photos, looks like a design masterpiece.

OHMIGOD, end of the world!

"Can't innovate my ass" Oh, wait....
Cook says, everybody wants bigger screen phones these days, what can we do?
We can't just give these people bigger screen iPhone, people don't know what they need and want, we always have to tell them what they need or want, let's give them gold iPhone, they will line up for this for sure, it will be our biggest iPhone launch ever...

If this is Apple's idea of innovation they're done
It's not. :p There are the usual incremental improvements to the hardware, much like the 4S compared to the 4. Android, Windows Phone, iPhone... No matter where you look, there aren't that many truly new hardware features you can fit into a smartphone these days, and certainly not at a pace of once per year. You can play around with sizes, colors, the look & feel, a few gimmicks here and there. And that is it.

I think this is real, but it's a decoy that Apple created to ferret out the leaks.

At least I sure hope this is the case. Gawd!

I find the amount of angst this has generated to be amusing.

I personally think it looks tacky, but it may sell well in other markets. If you don't like it, don't buy it!
