this pretty much means nothing . Apple's next iPhone is going to be bigger AND more powerful . they increased the battery life a little bit therefore we're gonna see the same battery life we always saw .

we need to get a battery in the iPhone that is on par with the iPad's .

Diffrience is android need a bigger battery as their quad core has as much power as the a7 chip but uses prob twice the power, this is where ios comes on and works wonders to the hardware, it always has always will

Do you have a source to back up that supposition. Its not that I don't believe you, it sounds more like an opinion.

Even with the smaller sized iPhone 5s battery it is not too shabby compared to the competitors with much larger batteries: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7903/samsung-galaxy-s-5-review/5

I imagine the 300 mAh increase will put it on par with the Android flagships. Along with iOS 8 optimisations, A8 optimisations. Other hardware (radios etc.) optimisations. Offset slightly by the rumoured bigger screen. Overall, a nice little boost over what we have currently in slimmer profile.

"Optimizations" is code for "less features".

A larger screen will use massively more power. No power savings in the A8 will compensate for it.

The screen is over 15% larger, so why wouldn't we expect it to increase power draw by that much? IPhone users haven't had battery info until iOS 8beta so maybe most are unaware that the screen uses wayyy more battery than anything else. I think this leak is a fake.

By surface area the screen is about 38% larger*

* Edit - forget that - my maths was wrong.

I love small capacity battery of my iphone 5S. The battery life is awesome. Around 6-7 hours of usage, and only 1 hour to charge from 20% to 100%. Prefer this than 3000mah battery and really takes a long time to charge to 100%.

My Note 3 battery (3,200mAh) takes 1hour to charge, from 1% to 100%. Thanks USB 3.0

Maybe to you, but I'd say that iOS has tighter code since its running on one single type of hardware, where as google has to produce some generic code that may not execute as efficiency since it runs on many different types of hardware.

This is exactly the same issue with Microsoft and windows, vs. OSx. Apple can customize the code to a higher degree as it designs the hardware as well.

True that.

It's so stupid, my 5S consistently gives me 2 days with heavy usage and everything turned on (4G, wifi, Bluetooth, lots of location, etc.) and a good brightness.

Benchmarks on various sites (gsmarena, anandtech, etc...) also give fairly good battery life to the 5S, specially for internet browsing and video watching.

However, the internet is full of this crap "capharge twice a day", how's that even possible? Omly if people use it constantly as a game boy.

l call ********* on the highest level. i think your the one that is full of crap here.

and no, listening to music with airplane mode is not considered heavy usage.

My 2-year-old Android phone has a 1900 mAh battery. It performs fine, but it requires charging during the day when I use it to access the internet. It also can be replaced by ME ... easily.

Doesn't really say much. I challenge you to have 7h usage using something like skype.

Usage for Apple means having screen turned on, so you can even turn off all radios and it will count for usage and it will be huge. So sorry, but that doesn't cut it

Ahh, bs, because I have all the radios turned on, and it's like that.

At least I provided an actual screenshot, not some bs like android fans like you.

What I'm saying is that your screenshot is not worth much, since there is no track of real usage in the iPhone.

Not saying Android is much better, what I'm saying is that it's a shame that Apple had an opportunity to hugely increase battery life in the iPhone for the next iteration and it's just maintaining the current usage.

Relax! The guy you are quoting seem to be feed up with whiners ;)

Whiners should post screencaps so we could determine how bad is iPhones battery life...

Most of them never touched an iPhone. All they know is what samsung tells them in their commercials.

My screenshot is much better than your words.

Apple doesn't need to put an humongous battery on the iPhone, just because android manufacturers need to do that because android is so inefficient with battery life.

so you're dropping the iPhone over a rumored battery size, without knowing what sort of real world performance you'll be getting :roll eyes:

Perhaps you'd be better for selecting a phone that better suits your needs over how it works rather then what size the battery is.

Easy..... common sense is at play here....

You call ******, but I provided facts, and you did not.

that is not fact, that is just a screenshot of your setting, on which your phone reports your battery life, a report that fluctuate percentage based on your current usage. if i drain my battery down to 40 percent, and thn killed ALL THE APPS, i too would get 7 hours of battery with 40 percent charge.

so unless you got some magic gold battery, your reporting of you using your phone with all these apps and settings on on a "medium usage" and still getting 2 days of charge is plain BS.

battery is a big issue with iphones, the more a consumer like you deny it the less likely apple would do anything to improve it. so do us a favor and stop denying the obvious.

Apple knows what consumers want and it definitely isn't thicker, uglier iPhones to accommodate a little more battery juice. So Apple takes control of the entire experience like only they can and they give us extraordinary battery performance with none of the bulk you see on Android/HTC/Sony devices. This is our reward for Apple controlling the entire hardware and software experience.

iPhone 5s (1560 mAh)
Depth: 0.30 in

Galaxy S5 (2800 mAh)
Depth: 0.32 in

Xperia Z2 (3200 mAh)
Depth: 0.32 in

Note 3 (3200mAh)
Depth: 0.33 in

If Sony, HTC and Samsung can use twice as big batteries in phones that are 0.02 in thicker (and removable batteries for the Samsung phones), I don't know why Apple can't in the iPhone 6?

Sony can fit a 3200mAh battery in a 0.32 in thick phone. This phone achieves crazy battery life iPhone users couldn't even imagine (And I'm an ex iPhone 4s/5 user)

It's a fact.

Like the benchmarks on anandtech, gsmarena, and other credible sources.

You don't even have an iPhone 5S to argue whatever with actual users.

Costumers complain about battery, because they were forced to believe that by aggressive marketing strategies from samsung and others, not only in ads, but also in sales tactics.

Because in fact, any android's battery life is crap compared to ios, most people on android are in satisfied with battery life, going leaps and bounds, like installing custom ROMs and custom kernels.

On the other hand, most people on iOS, tend to keep their phones more time, and in turn wear more the battery, while on android fans, most of them rarely really use their phones as a smartphone, they have that paranoia of turning off everything and change their smartphones every 6 months.
