iPad vs iPad mini, what function would the mini serve over the regular iPad? Will there be a form associated use pattern?
I'm curious as to niche that this product will fill.

Yeah it actually is even better on the nexus 7 as you don't have to stretch your hand as much. I think on this mini it would be a bit uncomfortable though as its quite a bit wider than the nexus.

the extra width on this does make it seem like it would be a bit uncomfortable to grip compared to the N7, I do have large hands so I'll wait to make final judgement until one is physically in my hands

Doubling down on nothing

how many rumours have you heard in the last few days? not many, surely they have some magic to wow us. Hardware is a bit harder to keep under wraps with all the different suppliers.

Unless we already know everything and this iphone is gonna suck (but still sell millions)

I reckon bucket loads of females will buy the iPad Mini

I reckon bucket loads of females will buy the iPad Mini.

Everyday on the train commuting into work I notice loads of females with Amazon Kindles. I think they prefer the form factor and weight over the existing iPads.

:)

Why 4:3 when aren't they moving the iPhone away from 4:3 to ~16:9?

The current iPhone is actually 3:2 :)

My guess is $299.

You don't think people would look at an iPad mini for $299 vs. an iPad retina for $499?

$200 isn't "just a little more" when you're talking about a total of $500....that's almost half.

I totally agree, the $500 price point is a big barrier from all the folks I've talked to and while under $200 would be almost "no brainer" territory, under $300 is still a big difference ...

Will people be able to use it as a phone? As if so it could work as a Samsung/Android killer.

True.

But what if Apple drops the price on all the iPads by $100 just to screw its competitors? Then a $199 iPad mini would make sense.

Stupidly impractical.

I understand that large bezels are unattractive, but it is just far too small down the sides.

Unless the multitouch software in iOS is getting a significant boost, I can imagine your left or right thumb becoming a giant pain in the ass.

lets say your saving up for an iPad, why not wait another 2 weeks or a month to get another paycheck and get one with retina display and a much better product if your going to spends hundreds anyways.

just doesnt make sense, i guess if specifically want that size and can care less about its tech specs and how over priced it is is considering its value.

more likely i see girls getting it, as a ebook reader and limited browsing and low end games.

with everything becoming retina display these days, i hardly see anyone getting this without and with that price tag,

249 i think would be a perfect selling price, the exact half of an ipad.

I like the size. I've been trying to justify the purchase of an iPad since the beginning, but I couldn't. If Apple release an iPad mini (or nano, or whatever they call it) for a $200/$250 prince range, I will get one.

Agreed on both points, though I still don't know what I'd do with it. I have a 2011 MBA that barely gets any use. When I buy new Vinyl LP's I use it to download the mp3's that often are bundled. Thats about it. I've been saying for years, if I could do that, I'd just rock an iPad.

For all those who are writing stupid comments like "Seems fake" "Whats up with the home button" etc

Read the post before making a comment... its a >>>Mock Up<<<<......

Why would they do that? Part of the reason why iPad is such a hit is because Apple carefully priced it, to a point where the competition either had to do complete rubish (insert no-name here) or when they attempt to match the specs would end up being in the same price range, so people end up getting the real thing.

The only tablets that broke this rule are Kindle Fire and now Nexus 7, and as an answer, Apple is doing a mini.

If i didn't have and iPad 3 that I absolutely love, I would personally go for a mini even if it is $100 than Kindle or Nexus, it is wider, bigger (8 vs 7), and is an Apple device.

It actually looks a little too small in these pictures? I guess I'll have to see it in person though.

Grab a DVD case and hold that... It is the same size of the rumored iPad mini but think about the case being twice as thick as the iPad mini would be. ;-) I am going to be selling my iPad 1 to get this if it is announced tomorrow!!

I think this thing will outsell the larger iPad.

If it's really coming it'll probably be like the when the iPod mini launched. I remember seeing tons of people getting minis that otherwise wouldn't have spent $399 (or whatever it was) on the regular iPod.

$199 is probably do-able if it's mainly iPad 2 type of components. I guess it depends on what balance of profit margin and insane sales numbers they want to achieve.

Kids hands

What I want to see is a mock-up (or real image) of one of these in a young kid's hands. A big part of the target market for this variety of iPad has to be kids - especially in schools, where < $300 per iPad is going to justify a lot more purchases than $500+ per iPad.
