They'll drop the current ipad 2 and replace it with the 7" mini @ $299 base, $399 with 3G/4G. It'll still be 1024x768.

This is going to sell like crazy to women. I bet it'll be 80/20.

Or it could be what makes the "man purse" finally become popular among the general male population. Seriously, a key factor for me will be whether the iPad Mini will fit in an average inside jacket pocket. If it's something I can take with me everywhere in a pocket, and if the price is right, I'll probably buy one. I always have my iPhone with me, but I find the screen too small for extended periods of reading or web surfing. If the iPad Mini is no more portable than a full-size iPad, though (i.e., if I need a backpack or computer bag), I'll stick with the original.

I know they have different sized computers, but I just have a hard time understanding how they're gonna market this smaller iPad.

I mean, I'm almost 100% sure it will come out, but they advertise/push mobile devices way more than they do for Macs.

iPod touch. iPhone. iPad mini. iPad.

Interesting.

"I'll get one because it will fit in the center console in the SUV". " It will fit in my purse perfectly. I can't wait". I hear these comments daily at the office. One for home. One for the road. Be ready to be surprised at the price. It's about grabbing market share quickly. :apple:

Do we honestly even need retina @ that size? I still think the iPad 2's resolution was plenty good.

Ask the people who own an iPod Touch or iPhone what they think of the retina displays on the devices of the size they own.

As for the iPad 3 users, the comments are obvious and fairly unanimous, "if it doesn't have a retina display like my iPad 3, it's a piece of crap and I'd never buy it."

The retina display is just one feature that could differentiate this product from the other 7" tablets already on the market, and those about to be released, justifying in some the Apple tax.

The iPad (retina or not) is known to display PDFs well and make reading them enjoyable - would a retina display on an iPad Mini help make them more readable on that smaller form factor? I'm very curious.

Looks great, a very nice size from that picture. Finally an iPad I can see a place for in the line-up! Now let's see the price, and then the exchange rate conversion ... and then the 200% price hike just for lulz .

This is a purely curious question - would you get rid of your phone if this device had cellular capabilities? Would it replace your phone?

If it does, that means others would feel the same way, and from Apple's perspective, anything that replaces a device completely, one that Apple themselves sell for oodles of money and make lots of profit from, is a very bad device. Anything that might cut into iPhone profits would be something I think they wouldn't like terribly unless the market is moving in a very new and different direction regarding technology.

Phone functionality in a device like this isn't something I think we can logically expect from Apple.

I was being a little facetious. However my car has hands free blue tooth, and for all other occasions, I'd use a regular blue tooth. However the iPad/iPhone combo has worked well for me. Not sure that I'd genuinely want a 7" phone.

Funny....When Amazon released the Kindle Fire some members expressed how much they would love to have an ipad of similar size. If I remember correctly, those members were crucified, down voted and flamed for suggesting such a thing. Fanboys yelled blasphemy! And argued Apple would NEVER do such a thing:mad:!....

My oh my how times have changed:rolleyes: NOW the ipad mini is the best thing since sliced bread:confused:!...Figures.

Uneven Bezels like the Nexus 7...

If only Google had patented rectangles with uneven bezels!

Why in the world would they do that? The iPod Touch starts at $199, why would this device start at the same price? It would kill iPod Touch sales, and I'm pretty sure the margins on the iPod Touch are higher than they would be on a similar device with a larger footprint so they'd be shooting themselves in the foot replacing higher margins with smaller ones, and for what reason would they do that? It makes no sense.

Expect prices to start closer to (if not over) $300. This is Apple, when was the last time you heard someone say, "don't buy that device from them, Apple sells the same product for the same price or cheaper"?

YEAH:mad:

Why in the world would they kill ipod touch sales.

We all know that if somebody wants a small pocketable music player they will buy an 8 inch tablet instead if its the same price!!!!:rolleyes:

I'd be way more interested in buying a super-sized iPhone than an iPad mini. Sure the 5 is a tiny bit taller but not nearly suitable for my man hands.

and whenever she brings it out, i refuse to use it.

the pixels, it blinds me
I've had to use an iPad 2 at work this week and I'm with you. I love my retina iPad. I can't see why Apple would take a step down and go non-retina on a new device. That just seems to leave the door wide open to the competition to quickly one-up them. Sure, the iOS experience is better overall, but the retina screen is what really makes the new iPad shine over all other devices out there, including other Apple devices. Why would they not want to make the iPad Mini a winner out of the gate? Without a retina quality screen, it's going to be a disappointment in at least one area. I think there will be a not insignificant number of people who would hold out for a retina screen, which would likely show up in the next model.

Waitress and Sales Associates

Looks like it could easily replace a notepad for waitresses or sale reps. I can see apple employees holding these and checking people out.
