Seeing as the Kindle fire 7" will go for $169
and Google's Nexus goes for $199

Apple will be stupid to price it at $299.
Personally, I think prices will start from $249

$249 would be awesome. But that $169 Fire is a recycled version of last year's and I'd say Apple tends to mark up its products about $100 over Android normally anyway.

The "Apple Tax". Who knows....I'd be fine with $299 as long as its a retina display and offers 16 gb at minimum.

I reckon bucket loads of females will buy the iPad Mini.

Everyday on the train commuting into work I notice loads of females with Amazon Kindles. I think they prefer the form factor and weight over the existing iPads.

:)

This female has both an ipad and a kindle (e-reader only, not tablet). I prefer the ipad over the kindle fire, but I love my kindle touch for reading. Can't beat the e-ink screen.

I'm guessing many of those females you see probably feel the same way - not nearly as comfortable to read on a backlit screen.

more likely i see girls getting it, as a ebook reader and limited browsing and low end games.

Right, because all men use their iPads for productive tasks, and all women just want to play cutesy games and put sparkly pink cases on them, right? Comments that make huge generalizations like this are really annoying. More women probably will buy it...and and the main reasons will be that it's lighter, easier to carry and will fit much more easily into a purse or bag.

You don't even know right now what its capabilities will be when compared to the current regular-size iPad, you're just assuming that it will be less functional.

----------

A lot of suckers going to be buying a mini-ipad1s :p

What makes them suckers? The fact that they want a smaller, less expensive device? The fact that they're choosing a product that they feel suits their needs? Or is it that you don't want one, so everyone that does must be a sucker?

My guess is $299.

You don't think people would look at an iPad mini for $299 vs. an iPad retina for $499?

$200 isn't "just a little more" when you're talking about a total of $500....that's almost half.

+1

Apple don't feel the need to compete on price with the others - at $299 it's still sell crazy amounts.

Pity really as the Nexus 7 really is a worthy adversary but Android just doesn't have the joined up approach across all devices that iOS has - especially with the new Mountain Lion toys.

Makes me a sucker then ... iPad is too close in size to my 11" MBA and doesn't do quite enough to justify itself in addition to it. Mini is perfect for taking with me when MBA stays at home and the iPhone is too small to be productive with. As an E-Reader I'll stick with my kindle - no brainer there.

I don't know if anybody else has mentioned this, but on the back view you can see that it has the new smaller dock connector.

$199 please.

Why in the world would they do that? The iPod Touch starts at $199, why would this device start at the same price? It would kill iPod Touch sales, and I'm pretty sure the margins on the iPod Touch are higher than they would be on a similar device with a larger footprint so they'd be shooting themselves in the foot replacing higher margins with smaller ones, and for what reason would they do that? It makes no sense.

Expect prices to start closer to (if not over) $300. This is Apple, when was the last time you heard someone say, "don't buy that device from them, Apple sells the same product for the same price or cheaper"?

Unmm..... The main issue is with Android is that it doesnt have a major desktop software. Kinda limits it

You forgot looking up recipes for baking pies ...

I said it above, but I'm pretty convinced if this product comes to light, $299 will be the starting price. The internals will be iPad2 based, the display 1024x768, etc., the only question is if Apple makes the "entry level" device (i.e., the $299 model), 8GB or 16GB.

Ummm... Apple is known for cannibalizing its own products. Look what they did to the iPod.

Yes to stay in dat kitchen! :p

And at least one man.

Are you suggesting that they would come out with a product that makes them less money than an existing product? Hmmm... do nothing, make more profit, do something, make less profit plus cannibalise an existing product line. I'm not familiar with their having done that before.

Must be in imperial units... :p

if it isn't 199, expect them to completely blunder their sales goal. 250 would be OK, but anything more than that, i really doubt people are going to spend money it. might as well just get an iPad with retina display and a more powerful processor and better graphics for a a little more.

A little more? So "double" in America now means "a little more"?

Gotta try it at McDonalds
"Hey, gimme a little more cheeseburger."

That might work... :p

Looks like a rather well done photoshopped picture.
I still think releasing another iPad type is a bad idea. But if it's a iPod touch replacement then maybe it might just work.

Add in phone functionality, and I'm sold!

This is a purely curious question - would you get rid of your phone if this device had cellular capabilities? Would it replace your phone?

If it does, that means others would feel the same way, and from Apple's perspective, anything that replaces a device completely, one that Apple themselves sell for oodles of money and make lots of profit from, is a very bad device. Anything that might cut into iPhone profits would be something I think they wouldn't like terribly unless the market is moving in a very new and different direction regarding technology.

Phone functionality in a device like this isn't something I think we can logically expect from Apple.

no, i ment 250 dollars is ideal, but not 350. no knock on the 250 price tag.

but if its 300+ its kinda like meh, especially if the initial release isnt retina display

does it come with sandpaper to sand you fingers down:D:D:D

Not that long ago everyone here berated all the 7" android tablets, oh how times have changed!!!!!

thats the main reason i had for saying its more appealing to women.

but do you not play cutesy games on them? and do you not plan to get some cute type of case for it? lol just joking.

of course it doesnt go for all women, but its the majority. i mean how many women are going to DL high end iOS graphic games? they would be in the minority.

given the size, one can assume it isnt going to have the same specs as the regular iPad. if so id assume the price tag will be very close to the regular iPad assuming it also has retina display.

unless its for business

most girls can careless if its retina or not, what kind of processor it has, or how much ram it will hold. theyll prob care about diskspace but yea.

i dont think my statement was so out of the question

There is absolutely nothing new about this design and this is really bothering me. It looks like half an old Macbook Pro or a fake. Anyone who know's Apple's aesthetic could come up with this. If this is really it then they spent about a day on the design of this thing.

You should change that to most PEOPLE. I work at a Telco, and everyone wants an iPhone, but they have no idea what a gig is or even paid attention to the physical difference between an iPhone 4/s or an iPhone 3.

Then they come back a few weeks later and say their Bluetooth is broken in their iPhone............. Lol

Nope I bet $199 for 16gb, $299 for 32gb, $399 for 64gb

And if they were smart these would have 3g for no extra charge

I think you're quite far off the mark.

Let's set aside the whole, "Apple doesn't compete on price" argument for the moment and just look at the iPod Touch, base model - 8GB, smaller form factor, $199. Why would they build a larger device, add 8GB more storage, and sell it for the same price? What kind of profit margins do you think they'd enjoy in that scenario?

I know what you're thinking, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!
