How Do You Think The New MacBook Pro Games?

Can anyone estimate how much the FPS will drop when running games on 1680x1050 ? I think Im getting the 2.4 i5 with anti glare.
Im really curious how MW 2 runs...

Ok, I got fallout 3 working fine; the problem is due to the i7. In order to allow the game to function properly, hyperthreading for the fo3 application has to be turned off. I tried everything on it, from dropping res/quality, but nothing worked. Now, it runs at high fine, even on my HR 1680x1050. It's nice.

For those worried about the 1680x1050, I'm really glad that I went with it. It's the perfect blend of productivity, better than average (for Mac) gaming.

Excellent FO3 is a game I have been looking forward to playing. Thanks for the info.

Did anyone try Orange Box (Team Fortress 2 etc) or any similar games on the new 13" ? I'd like to see how the 320 performes there.

And also of course 3dmark06 if you've done it!

(People with 15" can write too ofc :) )

I wonder if the i5 would have problems as well since it also hyper threads.

FYI,
here is my 3D Mark

If someone has a copy of the Mac version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and the i5 or i7 15" MBP, could you share if you're able to run the game with all settings maxed and at what resolution (would love to know if i can run at the native hi-res option of 1680x105)?

The Aspyr site states the supported game cards, but since I don't normally game on the computer, I have no idea how the 330M stacks up to these: NVIDIA GeForce 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800
NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4500
ATI Radeon X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600

Or if anyone could make an educated guess on whether the i5/i7 15" could play this game, that would be helpful too. Thanks.

WoW on the mac side:

Note: I ALSO ran it with 2xAA and 4xAF

The game ran AMAZING on the mac side which is awesome. Of course, the game will run much better on the windows side but I don't see a point to it considering the settings and FPS I am getting. In Dalarn I hovered around Low 30s all the way to high teens. In the heroic, I was going from low 70s to 100s. lastly, in the open area of the instance i was usually around mid 50s to low 60s.

NOTE: This is BEFORE i have tried the GLL render which I hear can easily boost FPS by 30+. I have not personally tried it yet.

REPOST from another thread:
You can switch to GLL by doing those steps.
#1 Start WoW and login with your favorite character.
#2 In the game chat, type : /console gxApi GLL
#3 Restart WoW
#4 Verify that in windowed mode, the minimize button is yellow and not grey

To switch back to OpenGL:

#3 Restart WoW

Good results guys.

Still wondering about the 256 to 512 difference.

I think I would rather get the 540m i5 instead of the i7.
Benchmark wise the 2.53 i5 is almost the exact same as the i7 unless you do some crazy multi threading.

spend the extra 150 on getting the high res screen.

hmm

I got the 2010 13" 2.66Ghz macbook pro. I used bootcamp to install Windows 7 (64 bit). I did this because I am familiar with 'Valve time' and release dates. I have Left 4 Dead 2 installed and at native resolution I can play and even in complex scenes with lots of zombies it holds over 30 fps. But then, the older, slower macbooks play this game just fine too.

I also installed Borderlands and the frames are probably not as good. I still run 1280x800 but have details on medium and it's pretty good most of the time but frames do drop below 30 when you are getting in the ****. Not so bad if you prefer to hang back and snipe but being Brick might be trouble.

I haven't tried tweaking it though, because honestly, I'm satisfied with the performance - I'm not being held back when gaming with others and I'd rather have the better resolution when possible. That's my early feedback at least.

So far, the only problem I've had is that my headphones don't work in windows, but do work in OS X. And no, I don't have a red light on in my jack.

Just finished playing a few games.

The only other relevant games I have are Bad Company 2, Mass Effect 2, Mirror's Edge and I guess GTA IV.

Basically, any Source game will run well at native res on high settings and all other newer games will have to be scaled back slightly in resolution or graphics for the high res screen.

could you please benchmark these?

Core: 650
Mem: 900
Shader: 1430

Try to keep the core and shader in a 1:2.2 ratio.

Stupid question but what application are you using that lets you OC? I tried the newest Nvidia System Tools 6.06 but it won't let me change anything.

That's what I am using but not the bootcamp drivers. I updated my nvidia drivers.

I'm about to get a i7 15", I don't know much about computer but it looks like you got a pretty good score on those settings. I want to do the same when I get mine but is there anything I should worry about if I had it at those settings?

Just ordered my base model i5 with High res glossy. Anyone have GTA IV or MW2 benchmarks for this model? (will try to run on my 24'' @ 1920 * 1080 tho :D

No it does not run on my i5 max settings.

Question On Graphics

:confused::confused::confused:
http://www.macworld.com/article/150146/2010/04/15inch_macbookpro_corei5i7.html
Looking at this MACWORLD (link) in depth review of the new 15'' MBP, on Call of Duty 4 the fps are (almost) identical between the base i5 (with 256mb of video mem) and the i7 (with 512mb of video). Could anybody help me in understanding why is it worth spending much more for the improved i7/512mb? Are there other games where fps would improve greatly from going from i5 to the i7 model?
Basically: is the i7/512mb worth the cost???

Thanks for your help on this!
