The thing that's been annoying me and making me doubt an update is the 'Same Business Day' status of ibooks on the US Store. But...if there is an update there will be large spike demand, perhaps Apple have prioritised initial supplies for the US online store to satisfy immediate orders and the Euro/RestOfWorld locations will need to wait until there is a more supply available, hence the 7-10 days everywhere else.

I can't see where they could go with a new form of the ibook at the moment.
All the 'consumer' range of macs have the white plastic- including the ipod [and excluding the mini mac]. The 'power' range is all metal - powerbooks and powermacs. So which way now before mactels?

One improvement they could make is on the keyboard/inside of the ibook - anyone think it looks a little cheap? Perhaps the introduction of metal inside similar to the powerbook could look good.

Personally I think they'll probably leave the designs now until mactels. I think the coloured ibooks are a thing of the past. The widescreen and speed/graphics bump would be the obvious route.

Something definately going on today. The uk store was only 7-10 days on BTO ibooks a few days ago - now its the whole range on a stock model. Most suppliers have plenty stock so apple are up to something
:D

Half and hour and counting!

It was 7 days three hours ago, I had a look. Maybe I should have a pint in the pub for lunch and come back for a nice surprise.

I hope I am wrong but I can't recall an update that hasn't taken the store down by 8 AM eastern-- and its 8:16. So it doesn't look like today.
I'm giving it 15 minutes, and then giving up for the day.

Since it says shipping in 7 days, wouldn't it be more likely that they will be updated NEXT WEEK ?!?

the only problem is: wich NEXT week :p hahaha

I stopped wondering when... I'll see when it happens... and when I have a new budget for one

OT: since I get an old G4 2x500 wich I want to setup as server... my budget for an iBook/PowerBook will be gone for a while :p (the G4 has no drives... so I want some big ones to put in it -> need money for that :p)

Thinksecret did say "POSSIBLY" as early as today.

Yeah, damn right you are.

But they did mention iBooks will be updated "very soon". And "very soon" here could be one hour, one day or even one week. If i were you guys, i wouldnt keep my hopes high.

It happens when it happens.

Apple have done Wednesday and Thursday releases this year haven't they?

Otherwise it is probably next Tuesday. Ah well, another week to save up money. Lets see if the shipping dates drop off over the week back to 1-3 days on Monday :p

Well if you look at the Buyer's guide at the past announcements, they take place either at around 8:30AM, 8:45AM, 10:15AM, 10:34AM. All Eastern time. Still have 2 more hours. If not today then who knows what Tuesday.

But usually the later announcements are because they must coincide with a keynote. If there was an update today, it would have already happened, which sucks.

Hopefully I'm wrong though. :D

The definition of chaos theory from dictionary.com:
the study of unpredictable and complex dynamic systems that are highly sensitive to small changes in external conditions, e.g. Apple product announcements.

(OK, I added that last bit ;))

So no new iBooks this week. The eMac before the current update waited 13 months to get an update. Powerbooks are due for hitting the average in 2 weeks. Lets set the new iBook/Powerbook update day as August 2nd, 2 weeks from today. Just in time for Back to school.

No, you're right. Unless there is an event and/or keynote scheduled that day, the updates are posted on the Apple Store website by 9am ET. Oh well, maybe tomorrow or whenever...

I swear Im about to go pc if apple doesnt update these things by next tuesday how the f*** do they expect people to pay the same for an ibook that was payed out almost a year ago now and everyone knows how fast a computer goes out of date... what do people think of linux??

Going for over 6 months with out updating a laptop or any other computer is basically suicide for a computer company. New products are supposed to come out every 6 months or faster. This is plain stupidity on Apple's part. They should have updated it on schedule in April 2005. Then updated again in October 2005 and then by April 2006 it would have been perfect time to switch to Intel. Apple screwed up the schedule.

i ordered my 15" pb a week ago online; it said it would be shipped before or on july 18(yesterday). so i got this email today, which says
Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following
the guy on the phone said, it could be a sign for a new model. i don't know what to think :D
