New PowerBooks - Finally

I was thinking if I started with a G5 chip I could upgrade all the way up but from what you say that might not be posible or pratical. I got an iPod bundle now too.

So... if I'm a student in college, I do qualify for the student deals right? Is that how it works with Apple?
 
Hey you crazy cats. I just picked up my 1st Mac this evening from my neighbourhood store (Somerset) and it is SO choice. The people at that store rule. Mad Props to Somerset Store in Troy, Michigan and the macrumors.com realm!! :D

Absolutely; you can save up to $300 on a new Powerbook. Click the Education link on the Apple website and go from there.

FWIW, today I enrolled in an online extension class from my local community college ($60, and paid by my job), and qualified as a student. My new PB 17" is $2699 and the HD upgrade and extra AC adapter are discounted as well.

Not exactly sticking it to big business ; if Apple is willing to leave $300 on the table, and I can honestly qualify for it, why not? I want them to make money, but it's their choice to offer a discount.
 
Has anyone got a ship out confirmation for his/her pb 15" 1.25?
I ordered on the day it was released ( actually an hour after the keynote). It says it's available immediately. However since then I've received two email saying that it's being delayed due to supply problem. The shipping date is pushed back to Monday. I hope the shipping date is firmed. I should have gotten a computer before school starts, but I waited and I can't be without a computer any longer. I have reports and assignment that I have to type and submit. :confused:

Easiest way to transfer data?

Heading to the SoHo store tomorrow to pick up a new 17"'er (if they have them - they had no new PB's today I understand, which is nuts).

I will want to dump the contents of my TiBook to the new one. What is the best way to do this? I think I read about establishing a firewire network between the two? Rebooting holding the T button down or sthng like that. can any one shed any light?

Definitely use target disk mode. You will need a 6pin to 6pin firewire cable and then you simply start up the computer you want to copy from while holding the T-Key down. This will start it up into target disk mode. Then start up the computer you want to copy to while it is connected to the other computer. I would recommend using a program like Carbon Copy Cloner because it will ensure everything is copied including your permissions and other invisible files.

Same thing for me. I ordered mine yesterday morning and supposed to be shipped on the same business day. But now the shipping date is delayed to monday too I was hopping to get it before weekend.:(

According to Airborne, mine should be here...TODAY!

It was strange...I ordered right after the keynote. I received an email about 24 hours later, saying it would be delayed for a few days, but according to Order Status, it had shipped! The next morning I received a shipping confirmation.

When you order online it says PB's will SHIP in 3-5 business days and then it'll take 3-5 MORE days to get to you. I ordered mine yesterday afternoon and it says it will SHIP on or before 09/24, which is exactly 5 business days and which would make that by next Wednesday.
 
I ordered a 17" powerbook right after the keynote and should gt it tommorrow. I can't wait!
 
good luck i ordered my 15" powerbook the day they released and they haven't even shipped
 
ARRRRRRGH

I'm not sure who to be more mad at, Apple or Airborne Express!!!

My 15" AlBook shipped out, all right. From TAIWAN. Which means it's NOT going to be here today. I thought Apple had these things warehoused here and ready to go? I ordered at 5:30am, right when the store came back online. You mean to tell me Apple didn't have any of these things ready to ship??? Their stores seem to have plenty of them on hand--how convenient.

And on top of that, when I called yesterday (before I knew it was coming from Taiwan), the Airborne Express representative told me that it was scheduled to be delivered to me on Thursday (today). Apparently it's not even in the country yet.

I got mine last night

I got the 15" superdrive model last night at my local apple store.

She sure is beautiful, and fast. If anyone has any questions let me know

Matt, I know how you feel. I ordered mine at 7:30 am pst the day they were announced. Supposed to be here today, but now Apple is telling me it's held at customs. Great, just great. I'm DYIN here!

I really hope they build an Apple store around here one of these days.

What did you have before that - I am particularly interested in case you had a TiBook and care to know how much faster it feels/is. ( I know it is exciting to have this thing but try and be as objective as possible :) )
