I've been reading this board for a while now and this is my first post... I ordered my PB 15" 1.25 the day after it was announced last week and it arrived today!!! For those of you who are unaware, go to Airborne's website and use the waybill number that was emailed in your invoice as the tracking number. This is the tracking number for the actual crate travelling from Taiwan. I found out about this on Sunday and when I tracked it showed my package was cleared by customs in IL the day before so I knew that I would have it today or tomorrow.. my real tracking number still showed an error while my new PB was safely on its way the entire time!! I hope this info helps some of you with the wait.. it sure helped me!! p.s. the machine is a beauty. I upgraded from a 12" PB G4 purchased in March.

Whoa.. I just got freaked out. I called up Airborne because when I put in my waybill number it said my laptop was at "shipper's door" this afternoon. This is where I got all hyper thinking.. what the ****.. it's not at my door!... (yes, shippers door not mine.. i know)..

well, I called and the girl was like "can I have your name"
"sure"
"Is this regarding a package from Apple computer?"
" *what the...*$%.. how did you?? * "

but after I hung up I guess they have my number in their system via caller id. talk about a heart stopper. time for bed.

I don't get it (at least not for more than a month...) -Others have posted here of same/next day shipping, or 3-5 days. When I placed my order I looked at several configurations (RAM, hard drive, etc.) -Every option showed 4-6 weeks, including the "stock" versions. Did Apple sell out the entire stock in the first couple of hours?

That's really strange. I've been toying around with all sorts of other configurations, and the only ones that said 4-6 weeks were those with 1 GB RAM chips in them. Stock models all showed same day, while those with minor customization showed 3-5 days. Give Apple a call - it might simply be an issue with the website (something there's been a lot of lately, it seems)

Shipping UPdate

Here's another update:

I thought my new 1.25 PB would be here tomorrow but it is coming from Taiwan like others had mentioned. They said that there is a big shipment coming and should arrive on Wed. in Ill. and then from there it would be the normal shipping dates. So I guess I am now looking at a Friday date for the new system. Bummer.

My 17" shipped today and I had it overnighted...mmmmm aluminum sweetness...

Just talked to 1-800-MY-APPLE and Friday is when I should get mine, too. Airborne--and I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned--isn't able to track until packages get into the USA, apparently, just so you guys don't flip out like I did.

jameskk is correct when he said to use your weybill number that is at the bottom of your invoices. it will tell you when and where it left overseas and everything inbetween. i just found out that my laptop had shipped from taiwan and cleared customs in Illinois.

edit: now it is in transit! sweeeeet!

I just called airborne about my 15" due to ship today. Apple e-mailed me early monday morning that the package was shipped, but airborne just said that apple hasn't given them the package to ship yet. Has anyone had an experience like this? I went to the airborne express tracking page and tracked the package monday and it said it was in illinois, but now I can't even track it. So, I'm a little confused. Anyone?

My powerbook is in the same load. I ordered it on the 16th at 5:00 am, Central time. I don't think I can wait 2 more days.

Cool.. I ordered mine on the 17th around 4:30pm EST.

Well, I am a soon-to-be-switcher, but.....

I ordered my new 1.25 GHz 15" on 9/16 and it said est. shipping date was 9/23. I did a custom build with 5400 rpm drive, and 1 gig RAM.

Well, today I log onto store.apple.com and discover that the ship date has slipped to 9/30!!!

What gives??

Anyone else getting delays?

I also ordered a 5650 printer (rebate) and extra software, and those items shipped immediately.

And there's 30+ minute delays when trying to phone 1-800-MY-APPLE

Not a good way to run a business, IMO.

The 1Gig of RAM is what is setting you back. Having that makes it a 4-6 week wait for shipping. I upgraded mine to 1 stick of 512 and it should be on my doorstep this week (3-5 days) . If you need the machine fast I would suggest calling apple and switching your RAM like I have mine set.. later you can add 1 Gig yourself. Just a suggestion.

When my tracking number didn't work, I used the waybill number, it said my laptop arrived in chicago yesterday. Today my tracking number works, and it says my laptop has been picked up from the shipper, but still hasn't left Taiwon. I called Airborne Express. They said their tracking numbers are messed up, and my package is still in Taiwon. He said it will probally be about 4 days, but I should call back in a couple days to check again.

Apparently mine shipped from Taiwan also. So I'll be getting it tomorrow.

As an FYI - You may or may not get it tomorrow. :(

They must go through customs first and then it will be shipped to your door...

This just happened with my 40GB iPod. It took a total of 4 days from the time it was shipped from Taiwan, through customs in IL and then to my door. I had the fast shipping also.

Now, if my 17" ships tonight or (tomorrow over there) like it's supposed to, may you please be right. I'd like to have it for the weekend!

Please let us know if you get it tomorrow :)

I ordered mine from Macmall on 9/16 because they promised to ship by 9/18. On 9/17 they called to tell me that it was backordered until at least 9/22. I cancelled my order and drove directly to the local "Apple Store" and walked out 5 minutes later with my 15" 1.25ghz......

All they had in stock were standard configs and they had no upgrade parts. My hunch is that ship dates slipping is due lack of parts, not PBs.

Where do you find the Waybill number, and how do you track by it? The tracking number worked at first, then did not, now it is showing my powerbook arriving from Twaiwan to Chicago, and waiting to be sent from there. I do not have the detail regarding customs as the poster above did. From what I heard, at this point this could mean that it is actually here. I wish it was.

I would have been here already if Apple did not take a week to accept my money. I tried paying for it with a check over the phone, but apparently the company they use to varify this process does not think that having money in the back is a good enough reason to caccept the check. After two days, I had to transfer money to my credit card, wait for that to go through, then place the order. This whole process started Tuesday morning, and the order was finally processed on Satuday morning. Now I am obessed with this whole tracking process.

STOP THE MADNESS.

I don't know if it is a part or powerbook suply problem. But i ordered stock 1.25 15" and it's supposed to be ship on 29. No custom build and it still delayed . Anyone have that kind of problem in Canada ?

I have found three things while tracking the progress of my PB 17":

1. Airborne blows - FedEx tracking is far superior
2. if the tracking number won't work, try entering it on Airborne's home page, not the page linked by Apple.
3. The waybill number is found on the bottom of the invoice (not the ship notice) emailed to you from the Apple Store (if you bought it online). In either case, the tracking information is suspect, at best.

Hey Phil, what does your status say on Airbornes tracking page? Does it still say it's in la-la-land.

When I checked the waybill number, it said that it had shipped from Taiwan, that it has cleared customs, and that it is in transit from Illinois as of yesterday afternoon.

That's the shipment from Taiwan to Apple of 14 PowerBooks. Apparently, mine is one of them.

When I log into Apple to get the tracking number for my individual shipment, and then check that on Airborne's site, I see that yesterday afternoon, Apple Computer has it in Illinois.

It should be one more day for it to go from Apple to Phil of Mac.

Airborne is good by me. I ordered the new 20 GB iPod at MacZone at 6 PM on Friday. It was here monday at 12. It was estimated to arrive on Wednesday (today). Not bad eh?

Okay, this is F'ed up. I ordered my PowerBook on the 18th. Due to an error on the part of the guy who took my order over the phone, it was delayed until I called Monday to straighten out the addresses (they were input incorrectly). My 20GB iPod shipped today, but my PowerBook has been pushed back for the THIRD TIME, and is now going to deliver on or before 10/03. WTF?! This is a completely stock 1.25GHz 15" PowerBook, no BTO options at all. I want to love you, Apple, I really do, but right now it feels much better to say SCREW YOU, BASTARDS! >_<

This waiting was bad already. Now it's even WORSE.

And I'm not close to an Apple Store. There's one near where I live back home, but I'm 3 odd hours away from it here at college, so I can't cancel my order and just go buy one.

Bastards.
