New PowerBooks - Finally

Apple told me there was nothing they could do for me when I called them on the same day my iBook arrived with a stuck red pixel. It would cost too much to replace every display with 1+ faulty pixels.

I know PC's have this problem too. Every lcd does. Just mention a dead pixel to a windows user and they will most likely have no idea what you mean. Mention it to a Mac user and instantly they know what you are talking about.

Enjoy your new Powerbooks! I am jealous!
 
About battery life...

I calibrated my battery first thing..

I've been using the computer for 2.5 hours now and it has 20% battery life left. (after a full charge)

I have a feeling it would last even longer (3.5 hours maybe?) had I not played a 3D game for a while (to test the radeon card..)

Simply put: the timer in OS X is WRONG. ;)

My conservative claim would be 3 hours battery life under normal/moderate use.
 
Powerbook Delivery in the UK

The apple store UK gives a build time of 10-15 days for a 1.25 15 Alumbook, does anyone know if this accurate?

I really want one in time for my birthday!

Just be thankful you're in the US.

Here in Europe, they're using Kuehne & Nagel to ship from Taiwan.

Not only does their tracking not work, you can't even pronounce their name!

Could of gotten it at the Apple Store..

Yesterday i went with my brother to the apple store in roosevelt field NY.... he went to buy the 17 incher and i asked the salesman when would the 12" be coming.. and he was like "dont know" and another sale guy goes to him go check in the back maybe they came already.. lo and behold they came... and im still waiting for mine in the mail.. and i could of gotten it yesterday! boohooo

Also i was going to get the educational discount on a isight, but i didnt have money and i told my brother to put it in his credit card, but the guy said i couldnt get it cuz the credit card wasnt under my name..so now im thinking, my brother ordered(online) my laptop with the educational discount under hes credit card, but put the shipping address to my name. Anyone know if there is gonna be any problems, i read in the boards that apple just "trusts" you that ur a student when u order online?? Also i got the bundle...for the rebate would it go under his name or mines?

I have to agree with them on that. When I ordered my 15" Powerbook (which I am still waiting on) the only thing I was asked was my address and what school I went to. I did not have to send a copy of my student id or class schedule. They verified that my school was on their approved list and that was it.
 
Off topic here, but does anybody know how many posts you have to make before the "newbie" status changes?

How long did it take from the time it cleared customs to get to you? Mine cleared customs on the 24th.

WOW my PB just get in canada about 26 hours after it arrive at FedEx Pickup center in Taiwan. Should be here in montreal by the day.

God thank FedEx for fast delivery

So, anyone else is waiting for an iPod in shipment 325275160 and a PB in 770917302?

Airborne tracking is like watching paint dry...
 
It's Coming!!!!

I just got off the phone with Apple and they said my PB 15" shipped early this morning. Airborne still doesn't have it in their system yet so I can't track it. If I ordered it overnight priority is there any chance I could get it today before I go home from work? Please say yes.

It is my opinion that PC users just don't care as much. Both of my Dell laptops have had at least one dead pixel. (One laptop had a dead, and another had one stuck on a color. My friends Dell laptop has pretty bad discoloration at the hinges. A call to Dell and they asked him if he could read the display there... No replacement allowed.:)

Do you mean that you think there are no dead pixels on Windoze laptops (I'd be surprised) or that Windoze users don't really care?...

That's not too bad. I would have sworn that my old TiBook667/VGA/DVD-ROM a.k.a. Rev.B (that I sold last year) had less autonomy. But that was a crappy revision (I mean really crappy)...
 
In my ongoing struggle to get my Powerbook delivered, I have been informed by Airborne that it was scheduled to be dlievered today but for some reason it didn't make it to my local station and as of right now they have no idea where it is.

hmmm... you know i was thinking, alot of people could just be getting the educational discount and they dont even go to school, if apple doesnt even check.. i wonder if apple gets the money back through the goverment, like tax exception or something like that... cuz thats why i believe they arent really checking cuz the more the merrier for apple since they would be getting the money back... i think thats why they dont really verified.... cuz apple would be losing some serious money dont you think? 200-300 off for every powerbook sold through education discounts.....

ok where the heck is my 12 inch PB now.. hey let me go check airborne.. oh wait airborne sucks at tracking.. mines is still at shippers door!! lol..

Just want to thank everyone for listening to my rants about Apple and Airborne. I have decided to cancel my order....Airborne and Apple can figure out what to do but I want my damn money back..this is past being ridiculous.

Yes, it is really bad. My PB 17" left Taiwan 24th 17:30 (Depart Terminal ...). Since than no news at the apple web page and the TNT tracking simply says "Not found" ...
2 days and no new messages from my PB 17" :-(

No, Airborne has no idea where my laptop is. I would just as soon cancel it and go and get one locally. Airborne can't even tell me if I will get it next week...they have no idea.

Was your order a BTO? If so, you're better off waiting, I doubt it's going to be more than a few days. If not and it is a stock config, maybe a local Apple store is a better idea (If you are lucky enough to have one in the vicinity).

Relax. Have a spliff!! You'll see more clearly.

Well, I have been assured by Apple that it did indeed clear customs on the 24th and to hang in there it should be delivered by Monday at the latest and if it isn't there by Monday to call Apple back and they would see if they could get to the bottom of it. That being said, if you need to know shipping status just call Apple don't even fool with Airborne. So I guess I will wait a few more days just to see. I just wish Apple had told us when they sent the email saying the laptop had shipped that it was actually shipped from Taiwan instead of the distro center in IL which is what the email implied.

It sucks, but I guess you (we) will know for next time. Let's hope there is one.
