Not sure that I would agree. At 1.8 for both, and given the inside look of the PM; I assume that there are many of us that would have welcomed a new form factor over the PM without a LCD monitor. A middle ground if you will...
I just ordered my new 1.8GHz PowerMac G5 - 160GB HDD, ATi Radeon 9600XT, AE, 1.25GB RAM (not Apple RAM, of course).
Shipping on or before 11/9. I'm excited to finally be upgrading from my 500 MHz G3 iBook!

I've ordered all my RAM through ramseeker.com / clicked through to 18004memory.com, and every time I received quality RAM with no problems at all.

Certainly a lot faster than my Powerbook G4 (1G, 1G memory)
Routine Photoshop stuff almost instant (1G memory); I haven't really tested it yet. Everything from web browser to finder windows seem zippier as well.
Very happy so far!
As I mentioned above, Apple's transfer setup software was incredible. It isn't hard to do manually, but the assistant made it so easy, I could do other things while it did the work. I'm sure the G5 processor maxxed out the firewire.
It is really big! The noise level is noticeable but not excessive; with iTunes playing, it's not an issue. Did I say it is really big?!!!
Beautiful clean design, not kludgy like most PC towers.
If I have any problems (or new positives) I will post them.
Best thing about Apple is you don't have spend half your life maintaining the system. It just works and you can go about your business.

The first time was when I ran the Hardware Test CD for kicks. I'm right next to it and the only noise is from the new LG superdrive on disc insertion. I'm bummed I didn't get a Pioneer, but at least the LG noise is a known issue. I was worried it might be specific to mine at first. Since it isn't, I'll live with it.
I've never had a Macintosh or a PC this quiet before. It amazes me to be honest.
I got mine (w/ Radeon 9600) on monday, installed an additional 1GB, but since it has been an extremely busy week for me, I still have not had time to test it properly. Anyway, here are my first impressions:
The machine feels very snappy to normal usage. I had before a TiBook 667 at home and I use an AluBook 1.33 at work and the difference is quite noticeable. Opening the programs means seen one or two bounces at most.
Under normal usage, i.e. browsing, itunes, email and so on, the machine feels very smooth.
Noise. Noise is a BIG issue for me. I enjoy silence and have a very quiet appartment (with views to a fjord, of course!). I had to sell my iMac G4 after 4 months because I could not stand the sound of the fan 50cm away from my nose. I also borrowed an iMac G5 from a friend to test it, and although very silent while idling, the noise while doing something intensive was irritating. You are supposed to use the computer, not just look at it!! The TiBook had probably spoiled me, it has been a wonderful computer and virtually silent for two years!
The PowerMac is noisier while idling than an iMac G5, I would say. I can perfectly hear it from across the room. But then, this level remains constant all the time (at least, for the moment). I find this much less annoying than the iMac. I have enclosed it in a noise absorbing case (basically a custom made case that does not cover either the front or the rear panels, to keep cooling working!) and then it is extremely silent.
All in all, I am very happy with this PowerMac!!!

Most of what Dell sells is cheap compared to Apple... in more ways than one...

I wish Dell gave you the option of removing the Dell brand name from the monitor's bezel.
You're right.. with coupons that 20" Dell 1680x1050 monitor cost $634 the other day (as shown on dealmac.com). What's even better is the Dell monitor has composite, component, S-video, DVI and VGA inputs... and for half price.
