The Macminute report sounds accurate... so, should I get the midrange Dual Ghz and downgrade from the superdrive and upgrade the Radeon, or get the Dusl 867 , and overrclock ? What should I do ??? What annoys me is there is no mention of DDR ram...... I would be REALLY pissed if there was no DDR ram

you use the Mac for normal stuff and use VNC to a cheap $500 PC for compiling, rendering, and encoding.

If you wanna nitpick times, it will be done by eDt or pDt. The only place in the US on EST right now is Indiana.

Yup, known to those along the Ohio border as "slow time". Ohio is on "fast time"

THIS IS PURE B.S.!!!
Why? This is saying that there is superdrive. Even if apple releases a superdrive, its only an extra 200 bucks? Why don't they just make it standard then? And they're also going to upgrade the ram AND the graphics card. Thats a little too many revisions.

That's too many revisions? In my opinion, it's not nearly enough. Apple desperately needs to catch up with the speeds of pee-cee's, and they're not going to do it by having a 200mhz jump every 6 months. If the pee-cee industry could advance so quickly, who's to say that Apple can't?

So, that means you do more work than normal high school juniors, but does that make you more intelligent? I have friends in the IB program, and they seem to have no life. No offense to you, but I hate people who flaunt their IB status, thinking that they're smarter than the rest of us...

Anyways, back on topic...

The MacMinute predictions seem more realistic, and the price drops may be just to please people who will be angry since they didn't get a dual 1.6 ghz G4...

I really hope we see something better than 1.25Ghz. That means that since the Voyager (PPC7450) macs were released, every update since has been predicted within weeks by someone over clocking the highest rated model :

2001 : 733 OC'd to 867
2001 : 867 OC'd to 1Ghz
2002 : 1Ghz OC'd to 1.2Ghz
2002 : ?

I wonder if motorola are going to release a revision of the G4 that has the same almost 50% speed bump we got when the Voyager chip came out ?

500MHz increased to 733Mhz would have been about as believable at the time as 1Ghz increased to 1.4 or even 1.6Ghz as some have claimed (without any proof).

To me, what apple release this month defines what I can expect from my next mac, a 1Ghz - Dual 1.25Ghz lineup would mean I'd have to buy a brand new mac when I have the cash next year. A line up with a single 1.2Ghz as the mid range or low end now gives me a very good chance that by the time I have about £1,100 I could pick up an end of life model from the range released this month instead of waiting for them to bring out a 1.2Ghz model next year and spending £1,350 on it (assuming both the low end is going to be 1.2Ghz and Apple are going to carry on overcharging in the UK).

I've had my 300Mhz G3 for over 4 years, the combined cost of the mac, modem, monitor, VRAM upgrade and CD writer is more than £1700.

I know I can get the current entry level model for under £1,300 at some places and it has all the extras I've bought for my mac plus firewire/USB, faster RAM, faster HD controller, faster graphics hardware and more expansion slots.

The problem I have with buying a mac that isn't 1.2Ghz+ with DDR is that with the current motherboard, and after over 4 years, the main application I use only performs 2.5 times faster than my 300Mhz Beige G3. I need more of a performance increase than that if I'm going to shell out over a grand on a new mac. I got my G3 in early '98, around the time the ugly blue G4s with the yo-yo mouse came out. It's not worth buying a new one 5 years later in early 2003 unless I get something that performs aswell as 5 years progress should.

son, what are you smoking ? The whole frikin East COAST is on EST, Boston, NewYork, Florida, not to mention all the other places.. EST = eastern standard time

No, it isn't. Most states in the U.S. observe Daylight Savings Time. Unfortunately, not all states observe DST. The solution is quite simple: learn how to use Universal Time. Under this system, there are no time zones and no DST. No matter where on Earth you happen to be, the time is always the same. A conference call scheduled for 1200 hours in Washington, D.C. is the same call scheduled in California at 1200 hours. I hope that there is a call like this today (yes, today is officially Tuesday) from Apple headquarters to its stores: "Set up the new PowerMacs!"

*sigh*

not the arguments about the stupid time zones again...GIVE IT A REST!

(sorry, just got a little pi$$ed)

I was explained somewhere in the thread, and if you took the time to read it, you'll find it.

Now, now, no flamin' me.:D

No kidding...I was in IB (now graduated from college), and I used to hate and HIDE the fact that I was in IB b/c there were so many friggin' tools and retards. Didn't want myself to be associated with them.

Also, someone previously mentioned it had only been 4 months since the last revision? Now what are they smoking!! The last rev PMacs were released a few weeks after MWSF, still in January I believe. That's like 6-7 months ago!!! With that much of a wait, APPLE pile on the upgrades!!! I'm just hoping for more than one dual configuration.

I was smokin' some real good stuff...:D

NO! If you had read my friggin' post, I was specifically talking about the powerbooks!

Ok...still, I don't see apple piling on updates like that. I don't mind having loads of updates and the prices cut...but thats just a dream, right?

Store down...

Dear All,

As of 1.20 pm GMT:

"We are busy updating the store for you and will be back within the hour."

This is the usual message that goes up indicating changes afoot...

Best,

Chris
