You must be joking, surely? It has a 4K display and a dedicated GPU. It’s far better value than most of the MacBook Pro’s/MacBooks and you never mention the price being a reason not to buy those.

4K monitor on a 13" laptop isn't a pro for me. Ridiculously high resolution for a monitor that size and an unnecessary drain on power. Plus, no Mac OS.

Yeah...If your primary interest is gaming and you're ok with much less battery life, and having to use Windows. And...if your laptop not being integrated into the Apple ecosystem with your other Apple devices is not a biggie.

I've also heard terrible things about their build quality and customer service.

Oh for god sakes, call it what it is, a blatant ripoff of the MacBook Pro, by an Asian company that has a reputation for having THE WORST after-sales customer service / support imaginable! Their internal policy is to DELIBERATELY delay and frustrate people looking for warrantee claims until they finally give up!

And let's not forget their piss-poor reliability record...

To this day Apple still helps me over the phone solve any software issues related to updates on my 2012 MBP. They don’t care how old it is as long as it’s up to date. They will spend as much time as I need getting the 7 year old machine to run right ( which it usually does).

What other company would offer that much assistance on a 7 year old laptop computer?

I wonder if the keyboards last longer than an MBP. Does it suffer from a T2 crashes? How about the display, is it subject to staingate? No! Well it ain't a Macbook Pro.:)

I agree, Apple is good at that.

I find it odd that MacRumors is reviewing this laptop out of the blue. Full disclosure: did the manufacturer pay you with money or merchandise in any way?

Nice review, I want to see more of these.

I'm interested in seeing similarly-sized comparisons, i.e., how it compares to 13" MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

It's clearly not a MacBook Pro. That was never in question. They may not experience the same issues you mentioned but they do have crippling firmware issues and a slew of reported hardware issues. Check the Razor forums. People there on their 4th or 5th replacement laptop from Razer and still don't have a fully functional product. Razer support is mostly useless. So, congrats to them for not making a MacBook Pro?

Sounds good to me.

If you just look at paper specs, yes. However every Razer super thin laptop I’ve seen is a piece of crap with the cooling system. It immediately throttles under the slightest load — and I’m talking about proper throttling, way more extreme than any Apple portable, because it just can’t handle the hardware.

Also the aftersales support (in the UK at least) is hopelessly shoddy. I can’t understate how bad it is.

I’m saying this because many people who are looking to get out of the MacOS ecosystem see these machines with price/performance, and think they’re getting a steal. Within weeks, if not days, they wish they stuck with a MacBook.

There are plenty of great Windows alternatives. Please believe me when I say that Razer laptops are not one of them.

Apple has no room to talk about throttling.

This is an apples (no pun intended) to oranges comparison. The cheapest 15 inch MacBook Pro is $2500, while the MX150 Razer Blade Stealth is $1600; a difference of $900. Not to mention that the different sizes equate to a very different design intention. People that buy 13-inch laptops are typically more concerned with greater portability, whereas people who buy a 15 want more power with some portability. I know you say you don't have a 13-inch MacBook Pro with which to compare it, but as such, this shouldn't have been a comparison at all. The machines are too different.

Give me the non 4k version with the discrete graphics, then hackintosh that badboy and you have a really nice affordable mac alternative for a reasonable cost.

Note* Just hacintoshed a Ryzen 5 2400g and it outperforms apple's lower teir iMac all for $625 CAD ($475 US)

However still rocking a 2012 MacBook Pro. Best MacBook pro ever made. Come on apple get it together!

2012 products still had Steve job’s influence. Before the leadership of Tim crooked cook handicapped Apple.

There's an easy way for Apple to create new desirable Macbook Pros that answer some of these sleek competitors, while gracefully backing out of the unmitigated disaster that is the current keyboard design AND useless touchbar.

Shrink the bezels dramatically and make an all new Macbook in the 14 inch form factor, with a 15 inch equivalent screen, and use the extra space to incorporate a discrete GPU and better battery, while removing the touchbar and restoring a scissor keyboard much more like the one in Apple's magic/aluminium standalone keyboard. Offer it up in a new range of colours like jet black, white etc, and even give it a new name suffix like the Macbook Air, but the Macbook 'something'. People who hate the touch/keyboard will jump all over it, and you can keep selling the older ones for a bit so that people don't say they've fully abandoned those failed features (you know Apple they gotta save face and not admit the catastrophe that has been touchbar and keyboard). After a while quietly slide the worst Macbook Pros ever off the store and everyone will forgive and forget. And you can do a supersized 16 inch model with maybe more TB3 ports or 2nd SSD for all those guys who've been asking for the old 17 back. Oh and put the fricking glowing Apple logo back somehow. Later update the 12 inch Macbook and you have a decent 12,14 and 16 range. Also, at a glance, take design cues from the most recent iPad Pro for a new Macbook. Tim, I don't care call it Macbook Potato or Macbook Social Justice or something.

I've always thought 14 is the perfect size for carrying around all day, the 13 in effect is smaller than it even needs to be, and the 15 with its bezels still feels too physically large rather than heavy.

Not that I'm a PC guy anyway, but that shift key on the Razer would keep me away no matter how fast or amazing or cheap it was... I mean... holy moly who thought that was OK?

Oh that is the shifted key, shifted to the left to far!

Looks like a nice light notebook.
Without a removable slate tablet display though, makes it about as useless as a MacBook Pro for me.
The Surface Book 2 is a product type Apple doesn’t even have. It’s be neat to see that vs its current competition in a round-up.
