I don't get it.

While other companies try adding experimental features that might not sustain over time, Apple is iterating by removing these well-proven and established industry standards... Why?

Just to create artificial customer demand? That's not healthy for a tech company that claims to be in an innovative leadership position.

It's an old technology. Even Intel is following with USB-C for sound.

People want thinner. Apple gets it why don't you? It gives them space to put in a cosmetic speaker. That's important.

Most say they'll go wireless which is worse quality wise. While apple tries to market a better sounding digital lightning connector and lock in fraction of all lightning headset sales. Their real concern should be losing yet more marketshare.

USB-C is an universal standard basically. Lightning isn't. Key difference there..

I remember ages ago. A friend of mine had a recording studio, full of people, making a load of money. He was moving and he sold the studio to some guys, some idiots who believe they would be making the same money.

Within a week of being sold the studio was empty. After a month even the receptionist left.

You can have all the technology but you need the genius behind.

I think you've unwittingly described most of the Apple naysayers here with what you've said. As if a MacBook Pro refresh will suddenly enable them to do things they couldn't with the tools currently available.

Pro to apple (in ios land) means a pencil and kb. The iphone plus would at least need an apple pencil designed for it for apple to call it pro. The phone would need to be redesigned to accommodate the pencil.

I don't buy that. I understand that Apple wants people to believe that, but its not the case.

for apple users, their standard is standard, and not usb-c :p

Indeed. Apple is not going to start selling 20 000 000 Macs suddenly.

Sounds about right. To quote what I said yesterday:
I don't know what they'd call it if not the iPhone 7. "The New iPhone"? Simply "iPhone"? I think they'll wait for the 10th anniversary before dropping the numeral.

I'm waiting for the kicker. There has to be a kicker. There has to be something about this phone or a related tech area that's exciting. I refuse to believe Apple would screw us like this this time around.
The kicker will be an extra dose of Hype.

Apple's Old Tired and Predictable...

I think what he meant was that the products are not "Pro", even their name says Pro. He wants a "Pro" device to be more customizable, more high end hardware and so on.
"Pro" is a silly abbreviation/marketing term indicating some additional features in a consumer product. What those features are is not set in stone.

People are underestimating how much demand there is going to be for these new iPhones. I'm also expecting some unexpected surprises at the iPhone event that really will drive people to upgrade.

There is no doubt these will be the best iPhones Apple has ever made, and no doubt I will be among the first in line to order both models as soon as pre-ordering begins.
I may line up at the store. Not expecting long lines this year. But I get a new phone each year as we have a hand-me-down tradition in our family and currently at the end of the chain sits my mother in law with a 5c. So whatever it is, I will get it. Only question is on-line or in line.

I don't care about the name.. I want less bezel and a new screen! Seriously, go look at Samsung's screens and bezels.. super thin, crazy clear! They are smoking Apple in that department hands down in my opinion. Obviously a new screen isn't coming on this new phone, which is why it's an easy pass for me. But.. I would love to be surprised! :)

Apple is boring... is like going to the same club but with different management.

Apple has been surviving because of marketing techniques and stock movements like dividing each share into 7. And yes, the apps and the iPhone. But you can go so far. Resizing and making thinner... can go so far.

comments like these are boring. and wrong. and naive.

What if it's like the iPhone 5? Refined in every aspect, but nothing big like Apple Pay/Siri etc?

I think most naysayers here have Apple products that are reaching the end of life. As a professional I want to replace the technology before it starts failing. If I am making a presentation after lunch, I can't afford to have my laptop fail in the morning. Sure I can work around it, but as an independent professional it does not look good and it wastes time that I may or may not get paid for. When I buy replacement technology I am looking for something better than what I have. Since about 2012 Apple's new products are not better than what came before in any significant way for professionals. Professionals need ports, powerful processors, memory, graphics performance, etc.

I have 3, 17 inch Apple laptops, each with the most memory, highest CPU clock, largest storage possible. IIRC these laptops cost over $3,000 each. Apple only needs one high end laptop to satisfy us. We don't need endless variations. We just need one, top end machine. Apple used to this, but with the success of iPhone they just stopped.

We are waiting to see if Apple releases a laptop, we can buy. If not, both of our family iPhones need replacing, but we will go non-Apple if we have to switch our laptops to non-Apple. Will it be a pain, certainly. We it be frustrating, certainly. But in the end we will not stick with a company that abandons us.

Unless the headphone port lasts for all time, there will eventually be a point where we don't need it.

Apple removing it is them getting there faster. They have such consumer clout that once the iPhone doesn't have a headphone port, headphone makers will produce more wireless headphones ('our headphones are the best you can buy for the iPhone 7' etc etc).

Also, once Apple's taken the ***** for it, other companies can follow suite.

One there is no SIM tray, and no headphone port, there's more room in the phone for other things.

an additional camera and a smart connector wouldn't make an iPhone "pro" anyway...

What do you do that requires the highest specifications possible? 3D rendering?

Nope, not if they neglect them. There's hardly any marketing done with Macs. Not that I see many commercials period these days, but i've never seen one about Macs. There's no focus to put them in schools.

It's all iphones and ipads. And horror stories of schools buying ipads and regretting it.

Come to think about it, I'm actually excited to see what they have in store (that we don't know about)

So far the presentation will consist of:
iPhone 7 with tweaked design, faster chip and new cameras.

Apple Watch 2 with built in GPS.

I don't see how this can last two hours, there must be more that haven't hit the rumour mill, right?

Maybe the Mac will get some love and turn the MacRumours buyers guide green...
