And they stopped when Apple products truly became mainstream. And they were never, ever remotely as overt and pointed as Samsung's tend to be, and again, they were always far more tasteful. But furthermore, Apple didn't build their brand off copying/being "inspired by" Windows like Samsung copied/was "inspired by" Apple. Apple didn't make the Galaxy S2. Apple doesn't make the Galaxy Alpha.

Skipping all of that though, I don't like Samsung much, but I can admit and acknowledge that they're clearly pretty mainstream now and have a large and recognizable install base, but they still haven't gotten the memo that when that happens, it's time to dial it back a little bit on the attack ads. That's when it's time to start building a brand off of your own merit.

Apple stopped living in Microsoft's shadow and focused on the future. Samsung has not learned how to do that. I'd be far more intrigued by their products if they could, but the longer this drags on, the more skeptical I become.

And again, to be perfectly clear, on multiple occasions in the recent past, different Samsung-toting, anti-Apple friends were the ones who felt the need to be apologetic about their device choices in light of how obnoxious Samsung is starting to be perceived. I didn't say anything about it; they did. You know it's time to start dialing it down when your own fan base is starting to get annoyed with it.

Apple vs. Mac to me come accross similar to what Samsung is doing but I also don't look at the world through fanboy glasses.

You're absolutely delusional if you don't think apple has stolen things. Job's and Apple have admitted they did. You could just get away with it when they did. The most well known one is that they stole the mouse from xerox.

Apple stopped because they ran the same campaign for over 4 YEARS! http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/apples-get-mac-complete-campaign-130552?page=4
After 4 years you are bound to change up your marketing strategy as it gets stale. Maybe Samsung will as well? Who knows.

If you chose what brand of product you are interested based on a company's style of advertising I don't get logic. I buy based on if a product is good and suits my needs.

I'm not in love with either company I like different aspects of what different tech companies logically go though pros and cons and debate them and make a purchase decision. Apple makes great fantastic awesome products but competitors have caught up in many ways and in many circumstances at a lot lower price.

I seen a galaxy note today, it was same size as an iphone 6, can't believe how quick they copied us. It had NFC too, seriously is nothing sacred? It's been like one day and samsung already copied it and cause the phones plastic they can get them to customers already.

we need to sue them again, a  lot.

Hey Mr. Yoon!

You wish you had your servers overrun because you had millions of people watching the live presentation of your watch!!!

How many Galaxy Gear did Samsung sell in their first TWO months? 50.000 units!!!
I'll be laughing at you when Apple surpasses that mark two minutes after they start pre-ordering the :apple:Watch!!!

Same case with the pathetic ad that made fun of apple customers in line waiting to buy an iPhone... YOU WISH YOU HAD A LINE IN ONE OF YOUR STORES!!!

Making fun of other companies' products ONLY WORKS IF YOUR PRODUCT IS BETTER! ;-)

Soon I hope. Apple are so far up themselves at the moment it's not even funny anymore.

I've been on the Apple train for nearly 10 years now and I've never seen such a shambles as I saw Tuesday.

The presentation itself was poor too to be frank. It wasn't the polished performance we're used to and the products were mediocre. Even the watch .. sending cute little drawings and tacky animated faces to each other is not what Apple was about and I hate this new direction. Then they roll Ive out for that interview and he gives the same laboured nonsense for the media to lap up.

From a marketing/sales point of view I guess this direction makes sense. There are parts of the world (where billions of potential customers live) that love the shiny stuff and sending silly faces so I do get it but it's not what I want.

Samsung are engrained in that market but there's a gap opening up that the likes of HTC have seen - for a premium engineered phone with the vanilla Android experience that can actually compete with the iPhone.

That reads a little like another 'Apple is doomed' rant but far from it. They'll sell millions of these toys but to a very different market than the people who bought into the first iPhones/Macs from Apple of old. As for the brand, not sure how that's going to pan out. It's 'cool' factor surely has to be eroded by its popularity sometime.

Don't forget the Wii U copied Samsung and put NFC in their Tablet controller to.

When Samsung comes out with a 64bit chip then we can talk. Oh wait that would require google to make a 64bit os. Lmao. Samsung can throw all the specs at me they want but at the end of the day apple still has the most powerful chip IMO.

You mean Android L which will be out soon?

The live stream was horrific. I got 3 min in and it kept cutting out to some stupid TV schedule screen, then when it came back on it had Japanese voice over on everything... Then when Tim said "and we want to show you the iphone 6" or whatever he said, it cut back out and went to a stupid TV schedule splash.

I was effing pissed. And would have taken the Google dude screaming that robots were going to take over the world in googles "keynote" over this any day.

It you don't see the difference, I don't know what to tell you. To clarify, those were in good taste (and humor) and the PC guy (John Hodgman) was very lovable, despite being at the receiving end of Apple's criticism. Whether you agreed with their sometimes exaggerated pros and cons or not, they "attacked" a generic market, not a specific brand.

It doesn't matter what you believe to be in good taste, it was Apple attacking Microsoft.

Sadsung has spent all the money on these silly ads! Sad and despicable!

"Sadsung" has spent all the money on these silly ads! Sad and despicable! These ads make me sick, and even if I buy android, it will never ever, never be "Sadsung"!!! Their thing are so great how come people don't buy them? That proves everything.

Samsung is the BUTTERFACE of phones. It has got bigger screen, multi tasking etc etc. BUT IT IS SAMSUNG!!!

Yikes. I know they wanted to have a quick response to apples unveiling but yeesh! Take a few extra days next time. These were brutal and reeked of desperation.

I have been amusing myself at the Apple hate filled threads in the gutter press and I conclude that the only people who would enjoy these ads are bitter, angry luddites who would only be in the market for an el cheapi samsung feature phone.

Anyone else find it funny that these ads are so tone-deaf that they actually make Samsung look bad instead of the intended effect?

There's a kind of unspoken rule that you have to be funny and avoid looking petty when you do an ad that goes after the competition. Think of Wendy's famous "where's the beef" ads or the Coke and Pepsi delivery guys ads. Hell, even Apple's PC and Mac ads did it. Those ads attack the competition but it's doing it in a way that's amusing and doesn't descend into insult.

These Samsung ads border on being spiteful and childish. It's almost embarrassing to watch. I wonder if they realize how that makes them look?

Well the live feed was shambles; and the overall presentation was somewhat lack luster - maybe expectations were set too high by Apple e.g. "the biggest event since 25 Years" and "the Swiss will be scared for the iWatch" ... but nothing shown made me go like, yeah! thats the stuff I will get tomorrow ... too bad.

... btw people with petty responses to ads should lighten up
