Don't do it.

The best Macs ever made were 2011-2016. I'm still using my 2011 model even though my 2017 has long since failed and been junking and my 2020 (intel model) still runs much worse than the 2011. If the 2011 ever breaks, I'd look for a used pre-2016 model to replace it before buying new.

The new gen Macs blow away the legacy Intel models. And I have (and love) the older Macs you speak of.

you’ve clearly never used apple silicon

By blow away, I assume you mean they're much faster which is true.

The overall build quality is complete crap. They feel like garbage to the touch, there's so many design and build flaws that you're lucky to get 3 years out of one. Compared to my 2011 which is still going. I guess that's on purpose though, a computer in use after 12 years means lost money for Apple (even if it is good for the environment).

You're forced onto the newer OSes. The current state of MacOS is horrendous, aside from all the well-discussed bugs here, they UI is clunky, it's a broken-down version of the UI designed for iPads with their touch screens and it just doesn't work on a computer.

Timmy took out an ad campaign to brag that he doesn't even know what a computer is. He famously said he doesn't even know why anyone would buy a computer. Mac has clearly been led for the past 7-8 years by someone who doesn't know what a computer is for or why anyone would buy one.

They may be the fastest macs ever made but the design and usability is utter garbage and has been since before Apple Silicon came along.

My late 2013 is still going like a tank after a battery replacement. These machines were/are awesome. Macs age like Toyotas…

Faster for what? Pro is fast enough, air is not gaming ready anyway, m3 won’t have any games, so what? I want Siri less dumb with neural whatever when chatgpt kills the game on a wiko already.

How about being a bit less ignorant. There is plenty professional game developers like me who need more power than the current M1/M2 Max are offering in the MBP format. There is also many 3D artists, 3D animators ... all of which need more power while wanting the flexibility to work on the go. So speak for yourself and your own needs, there is plenty people who make use of an increased performance

They did age like Toyotas. I even remember PC reviews describing the MBP's with bootcamp as the best windows laptops on the market in their price range.

Now they're aging like Edsels. Timmy's Apple is going to be the stuff of legends for generations of future MBA classes along with GE and Yahoo. Timmy's even making the exact same mistakes they did.

Sick. Keeping intel on their feet.

You don't realize how fast these machines are until you pull a 2014 Mac mini out of storage for a second computer. Holy crap, I was spoiled. I put NVMe in it and it's still a complete dog, even for basic computing.

I thought most 3D artists abandoned Mac years ago because of the poor performance/high pricing, especially ram and ssd pricing.

These days the news is more about software platforms dropping mac support due to lack of customers than the actual users leaving; they're already gone.

Buy hey, Mac still has autocad and tinkercad, so we can dismiss all the other companies that have left as lacking vision, right? For now.

You still have your 2014 mini and it still takes modern NVMe? You can still load macOS on it?

I wonder how well a 2023 mac will work in 9 years. Timmy Apple sure does wonders for the environment.

What if the new macs are not scary fast? Does it mean they didn’t launch any macs?

Should’ve been on Halloween.

Little costumed children crying at the opportunity loss of begging for candy from complete strangers because nerdy parents can't pull themselves away from a screen??? That would be no treat for the little ones... especially since candy harvesting could be maximized in the prime hours and this recording could be watched LATER or the next day or the day after that. You can't time shift the candy harvest. ;)

Same here - instant buy of M3 Max MacBook Pro 16 - still rocking a 2015 MacBook Pro 15

Make sure you sell/give the 2015 MBP to someone who will appreciate it. It will still be going strong and still be a great machine when all the M3 macs take their rightful place in landfills in a few years thanks to the poor build quality and planned obsolescence.

I think it was a dumb ad campaign, but please learn what a rhetorical question is.
He famously said he doesn't even know why anyone would buy a computer.
He said he doesn't know why anyone would buy a PC; when Apple refers to "PC" they're typically referring to Windows computers, an out for them to refer to another brand without actually saying its name (which avoid as much as possible), simultaneously allowing them to imply that Macs are special, something different entirely.

Interesting claim. My M1 iMac is over 2 years old and absolutely not showing any signs of stopping any time soon. My M1 MacBook Air is a bit newer but coming up on 2 years old and also doing great.
You're forced onto the newer OSes.
Genuinely not sure what you're referring to here. I can wipe this iMac and put Big Sur on it, the first version it shipped with, and stay there as long as I'd like, just like the Intel-based Macs before it.
