Can't help but notice the iMac page on Apples website has been updated with Mountain Lion screenshots on all the iMac pages, but of course the specs remain the same. I think that's proof if ever it were needed that we're not getting anything new for now :(

Why is it that the iMac has the Mountain Lion desktop background the the MBP and MBA have the Lion desktop background?

Well, all signs point to no iMac this month. Mountain Lion is out, and all Oppenheimer and Cook talked about in reference to "products in the pipe-line" were in relation to this Fall.

I can't afford to wait any longer. First thing tomorrow, I'm building me a new Windows Box. Apple has lost my business for the next couple of years at least, and I'm probably not one of few. Given the elongated and unreliable product cycles, I'm not sure I will ever switch to Mac now.

For all those willing to wait for the Fall, you have my sympathies and I hope you don't suffer too greatly in the interim.

Cheers.

It's the other way around for me,both macbooks have the ML background while the iMac has the lion background.BTW I'm using the Irish Apple Store.

I guess there is not going to be an new iMac ...
I'm so ssad and angry !!

Looks like this Kuo guy is right, so far. As I see it, Apple wanted to have new iMacs for us today, but missed due to screen manufacturing issues. This doesn't really upset me.

Disappointment Apple.

Well, i need to buy a new imac roughly before august 15-20th, because i'm moving, looks like i'm going to be forced to buy the 2011 model , Even a minuscule update like 1600Mhz Memory instead of 1333Mhz would of been bearable, or a raised core-clock but nope.

One of the problems of the irregular product cycles is that come late Sept/Oct, it'll be a mere 6 months away (with a dead period productivity wise around Christmas and new year) before Heswell. Why buy an iMac in Oct? I'm moving on also but prob to a mac mini

A lot of people will be pissed if they miss the back to school promo also

Don't do that to yourself. If you're thinking the model that JUST goes on sale is obsolete because Intel's putting out the next CPU soon, you'll just never get around to buying anything. FYIW an October 2012 iMac would mean the bare minimum for a 2013 iMac would be around the WWDC timeframe. At that assumes Intel and the GPU providers cooperate. And, if they're working on a new-fangled Retina display, that they get it working correctly and cheaply in time.

If you need to have the latest Intel chip in your system the minute Intel releases it, Apple isn't where you want to be...

Yeah i know, i'm a student as well, i'm stuck, im moving country, but im selling my current mid-2007 imac, so when i get there i will need a new imac, in the first 5-7 days, so i will be forced to buy whatever is out, and when october comes and the imac isn't out yet, with all these PC companies and the media bragging 'Haswell' apple won't want to of just released ivy bridge to the desktop... especially as iv'e heard Haswell is a much larger leap than sandy --> ivy bridge.

:) been using the blasted things since 1996. A few twists and turns since then (never thought they'd go intel for starters) but do generally know what you are saying. Still some feeble display 'delay' excuse wont cut it with me (especially as I know it's not to do with retina; if it is, I'll eat humble pie). I am pissed

Precisely. This is a significant point. Tick-tock (forget which is which!)

Tock is the new architecture.
Tick is refining/speeding/shrinking the previous architecture.

Intel has called Ivy Bridge a Tick+ for the effort they spent on their integrated graphics.

Personally, I won't be curing cancer any time soon. CPU speed alone isn't enough to entice me. Games these does are much more GPU than CPU limited.

Okay last guess iMac in late or mid september ..
I can't believe I'm saying this but I think I'm gonna wait...

Me too. I strongly considered a refurb this morning when I saw nothing new. But I decided its not worth it at this point. Then I considered a MacBook Air or a Pro, but realized I don't need mobility - my iPad can handle that. So now I am just going to stick it out. Maybe it'll be out on or before September 25th, just in time for Mists of Pandaria!

I have an iPad and don't need mobility either, but am finding a 2012 13" Air a great replacement for my 2006 iMac. I haven't looked back.

Do you use it at a desk? I have a set of speakers that connect via USB, that and the power cord would really be the only wires connected to a future iMac or a MacBook Air / Pro (if I cave in). Do you find it annoying to connect/disconnect things? Or do you just use your MacBook Air wherever with nothing tethering it down? My wife says "wait! don't get a laptop!" but I say "I want something now!"

I used to have a 13" MBP on a desk connected to an external display with also every port used, and yea, that was definitely always a hassle to unfree. But since you're only talking about the magsafe connector and just one USB cable, I personally think that would be no problem at all considering what I've had before. The magsafe power is especially easy to disconnect obviously. Makes me wish that USB connectors were also designed with magsafe.

Yes, I use it at a desk, exactly as you've described — the only cords I have are power and external speakers. A couple of Bluelounge cord grips keep it all neat and tidy. No hassle. And it's liberating to be able to take my Mac into another room on occasion.
