I'm not surprised at all. The ChatGPT deal was finalized just weeks before WWDC last thing we want is for them to rush this.
The ChatGPT integration is a relatively simple API integration not radically different than making search queries. The hard part is running the Siri LLM on device and integrating with apps via the App Intents framework.

But also, it's not like you'll be asking Siri a question and it'll just input it into ChatGPT. It's going to have to process the question and determine if it can answer it, or hand it off to ChatGPT. So it's just not as simple as adding google as a Safari search engine.

Not surprised. Recently many of the features that are announced are made available only before the announcement of the next version of the software.

Considering the total lack of support for anything other than current generation products, can’t imagine many folks are too bothered about this. 😂

Haha, let’s hope that it’s not another version of “Let me search for you on the web”.

They wasted all of that excitement they built up at WWDC2024 only to create disappointment when people actually installed iOS18. The one thing about Apple that, in my opinion would generate the most excitement around the brand is now a “everything we mocked up in these shiny presentation videos isn’t ready right now….but it’s coming…sometime….”

Apple is so boring now holy moly, and it’s lost that effect it used to have on me. It always gave me that feeling that they were elite, advanced, ready to release something the moment they mentioned it. Now it feels like they’ve become a paranoid wuss that is constantly dipping their toe in to feel the temperature, as if they’re new to the market and have no idea what people want. Have some balls and take the lead again, Apple.

I don't give a rat's ass about "AI" features. The only reason this bothers me is the obvious market gamesmanship it implies - like so many other announcements from Apple and fellow "Big Tech" companies.

Why make a big deal of announcing it at WWDC when it won't be ready for nearly a year? "Stock price go up."

Why leak this story on a weekend? "Stock price not go down."

"Stock price. Good. All hail stock price. Stock price. Stock price..."

Anyone with decent critical thinking faculties can see this.
That’s Timmy’s Apple for you. Profits over innovation.

What deal? It just hooks in. AI Siri isn’t CHATGPT. ChatGPT is used when SIRI can’t do the processing itself and allows you to basically link CHATGPT to say a question you have. AIsiri does not harness CHATGPT to work. So what does it have to do with it?

Utterly pathetic and not remotely surprising... I have little interest in the AI features anyway but, seriously, they make all this noise about it, and it's likely to take nearly another year to improve the egregiously bad Siri? I hope heads are rolling in Cupertino.

You could not be more misguided. Why are so many people afraid of AI?

We’re not afraid of it. It’s just not what is described. The expectations and utility are inflated. This is the standard maturity curve of all technology.

People are literally selling stuff on future applications which haven’t been proven in any way.

Something more than faith is needed.

iOS development back in the day:

“Yeah? These cool features. Available day one, maybe it’ll come in the .1 update but shouldn’t be long”

iOS development now:

“Yeah look at all these cool things. It’ll be ready by next year….maybe. Maybe we’ll push it to the next major update who knows!”
apple dev team be like: I heard you guys like live service games.

Better late and polished and working as expected, than early and buggy as hell - my own opinion…
