How frequently do people lose their remotes and keys? Honestly I've never been unable to find my remote for more than about 10 seconds. It'd take longer to launch an app than the couple seconds to check around the couch, there it always is.
Often enough. Do you live alone?

"Apple is perhaps expecting ‌Apple TV‌ users to add an AirTag to the back of the ‌Siri‌ Remote, which would allow it to be tracked via the ‌Find My‌ app." Now that is pretty silly. OK if you want to, but what is wrong with putting your remote away when you are done with it? Works for me, same place all the time. Try it with all your goodies, saves a lot of time and frustration in your life.
Do you live alone?

I'm sure many will make excuses for Apple, but there is none here.

This is sloppy and not acceptable.

You design and release a new remote - a device that is frequently "lost" around the house - and don't absolutely include it in the U1 "locate me" plans?

I'm sorry - just terrible on Apple's part.
Yep, I've got a new PVR (Sky in the UK) and that comes with the function to press a button on the set top box and have the remote make a noise.
The other lack is, why no hole in it ? Glue or drill ?

I've had a Tile attached to my Apple remotes as long as I've had an Apple TV (years). I don't have tape. Tiles used to come with some sticky adhesive, not unlike the 3M Command Adhesive strips. That's what I'll use to attach Apple Tags to my remote (removable Command Adhesive dots/squares).

By the way, I also put a Tile on each of my Harmony remotes.
I put tiles on all of my family members and all of my dogs. I don’t put them on my sheep and goats though: the dogs keep track of those.

Considering Apple TV probably won’t see another upgrade in 3-4 years, we need all the speed we can. Especially with newer Arcade games and all.

By next upgrade, that A12 chip will be 6 generations old.
You want M1 in the Apple TV? Maybe we can virtualize Windows on it.

More than anything, the U1 in remote might actually have helped in showing users how useful and precise "Find My" is. Which might have led to AirTag sales.

But the bigger story is that there's no U1 in iPad pros? That's the real WTF for me. It goes outside the house, can be misplaced, can be stolen. And we don't have U1 in it when the tech is there, at the price of those iPads! Truly sucks.

The only useful feature would be able to have it make a sound if you lose it in the sofa. Air Tags style location tracking is a bit over the top for something that will stay at home.
That's strange, after the Airtags announcement and seeing how TV remotes are one of the most commonly lost items

You sound very passionate about this first world problem. I hope you actually tell Apple about it and it makes your life better for it.

Seriously though. Words like "unacceptable" and "no excuses", are let's just say, a little on the extreme side.

It's up to Apple what they want to deliver. I for one have never lost a remote for more than a couple of seconds. Usually, because my wife leaves it in the kitchen or it somehow ends up in my sons' playroom. I think it fell down the side of the easy chair for about a day once, but it was found pretty quickly.

Ultimately, there are very few people that genuinely care as much as you do.

Apple needs to solve bigger problems like backlit keyboard (which matters), a more ergonomic mouse (which matters). In the meantime, a little sellotape and an airtag might help you solve this horrific first world problem... ;)

It also appears that the 2021 iPad Pro models are lacking a U1 chip as well, though the new Apple TV does indeed have U1 support.

But is this confirmed anywhere? Apple certainly makes no mention of it.

It's certainly not mentioned in the article this is based off:
True, cant seem to find mention of it anywhere else

$60 for a remote? Lol...

£300

Harmony Elite is £500... if you can find one. The idiots at Logitech have stopped making Remotes... despite having NO competition.

I can understand some might be uneasy about the new Apple Remote not having the U1 chip with the remote finder feature but it's ridiculous that some people here are saying that Apple has some nerve trying to push the AirTags immediately after the AppleTV remote presentation. So what? It's business. Apple isn't your friend. People need to get over it. If anyone here was running a major corporation they will do exactly as Apple does, trying to maximize profit by offering more accessories to their customers. If anyone says they wouldn't do this then they are not being honest and only because the company in question is Apple.
And people need to stop defending Apple at all costs. Like you said they are a business and only care about your $$$

For all the good things Apple does ... at times you do have to 🤦‍♂️

No U1 chip in a remote ... fail.
Not moving to Qi charging for the Magic Mouse while still keeping the charing port on the bottom after a redesign ... fail.

The Apple 4K story was the most disappointing announcement here. No gaming story. No U1 in the remote? Two generation old chip? No spatial audio support for AP? I mean, I'll still upgrade but ....eh?
I’ll probably do the same. I have I think 4 Apple TV’s in my house so I’ll do the serial upgrade path. The one that i use most gets upgraded, and that one goes to a room with a HD, which goes to a room where I have a Fire Stick, etc.

But given how incremental an update it is I will probably just buy the one. Especially since Apple TV+ (with access to my iTunes movie library) is on everything nowadays.

The Magic Mouse thing is a bit strange. How cool would it have been to add Qi charging. I still would want the charging port for faster charging and quick pairing to a new device but oh well.
