Odd

Does anyone alse think it's odd that in the new ad with Fabiola Torres she says she recorded her speeches with iTunes - I'd sure like to know how she did that!

Next she'll be taking memos into the secret mic on her iPod.

Can anyone explain, or am I being too literal?

Maybe she recorded it using another application, but used iTunes to convert it to MP3s. I liked her ad. I wasn't sure at first, but it really came together I thought.

Did you notice that they seemed to pick more flattering pictures for the still shot on the web site.

how about something like this:

Not a switch ad exactly, but related:

30 second commercial. see a cinema display with iMovie on it. digital video camera off to the side. a 17" iMac. All on a white background.

VO: I tried to make a video for my friends on a PC... it was too hard and didn't look very good. With my iMac, it was easy!

VO: Matches with the steps outlined below.

Show hand connect camera to iMac. iMovie2. click import - bamo. put into timeline, etc... by end of commercial a few scenes with audio are created - some kid (or Tony Hawk) skateboarding in a park or something with a cool audio track... shown in QT player (fade to it)...

VO: Thanks Apple! (fade in to Apple logo)

This could be done for a lot of i applications. A photographer working in the field using iPhoto & a TiBook, someone (Moby or BT) using iTunes, etc.

They did that with Goldblum for the original iMac - it used to always be on during ER in the UK...

what needs to be "fixed" about a uni brow? it's something some folks have. that of all things seems like a mundane unimportant detail. but if you picked up on it, i'm sure some other superficial folks will as well.

Janie Switch ad!

I dont know if i was the only to notice this. I watched all the switch ads, i dont know if apple tells them what to say but i really think they told janie what to say. if you remember she said she saved christmas. she was using iphoto when she did that. correct me if i am wrong but didnt iphoto come out with the new imacs. and wasnt that in january. christmas is in december. i am just saying this on my memory reflecting back then. i am almost positve that iphoto came out in january, which would make that commercial impossible to happen. someone please refresh my memory on this.

You're right about the iPhoto release date, but wrong about her saying she used it.

She simply says she connected the camera to her powerbook and it automatically downloaded the pictures. She doesn't mention iPhoto at all.

OS X has a built in image capture that automatically downloads pics to a folder. This is pre iPhoto, so the ad is correct.

I liked the vet it appeals to the animal people and I am glad to see more diversity in the people they choose. I did like Arron Adams though, a windows LAN admin is a big one to have.

No switch for me

No switch for me.

I've been considering switching for a few months now. Watching and lurking the macrumors boards (great discussions). I would truly love to get my hands on OS X. It looks like a great OS. I want to believe.

I want to do some music stuff. The recording interfaces I found and like, have a PCI card. New “Wind Tunnel” Power Macs are too mechanically noisy.

Imacs and Emacs are out. They are not "officially" upgradeable. They would be a bad choice for me. If I decided to do firewire - . I fear overloading firewire with drive space (I have filled up 50 gigs), and interfaces. Not too many choices for firewire interfaces at this point.

I've decided to buy a PC. I'll start lurking and these boards again next year where I see Apple making a concerted effort to reduce noise, heat, and still offer upgrades and expansion. Until then, maybe Linux may make some ground in the PC area, and companies writing tools for OS X may port to Linux.

;-)

no, im not goign to try to convince you otherwise. just thought id mention that there is a small movement among linux peoples to get objective-c (cocoa) for linux. this would allow software developers to write easily linux/macosx apps. imagien all the cocoa apps for osx suddenly working in linux (no its not quite that simple, but it would be a great step).

am i the only one?

personally, i think these switch ads are horrible. most of the people look like they are on drugs, they act like morons. the first set made me want to take my mac and throw it out, i felt ashamed to be in the same league as the "switch people". my friends watched the one about the dj and her having "tiny" speakers come with it, and then how she went and bought a $200 set with her mac and was suprised why it sounded so good. so lame. these people are basically saying, if you're an idiot, come to the mac, because then you can do things that you were to stupid to know how to do on a pc. one of the major selling points of xp, and you will see this in the store and it does work by the way, is just what the girl who "saved" christmas did, plug in camera, it works, and if you go to best buy, you can test every single camera and camcorder, they all work, and all come with software, and all, cheaper than buying a mac, why are people gonna switch because these ads? nobody is going to switch because of these ads, they will watch them, if they are pathetic and drones, which most pc people are anyway, they may get interested, then they will see the price and the speed and go, are you kidding? they keep doing the "it doesn't crash" i own a mac and pc, my mac has, never crashed, but programs on it do all the time, ever work for a while and then the program just quits, especially on jaguar, flash is just non stop crashing, doesn't really gain confidence. my pc never crashes, never blue screens, never quits programs, rock solid, however, i built it myself and used top notch parts, it still cost me less than a mac, and runs alot better, so when looking at this, i don't see anybody switching, i switched because i saw osx on my friends powerbook 2 years ago, i used it for about 5 minutes and wanted it, i don't see any of the commercials even touching it, somebody wrote, i don't think people care about the os, are you kidding, that's all people care about, they walk into stores, i want that pentuim thing and it has to have windows, great everything works but the os is a piece of ****, doesn't gab people, everything works and the os is amazing you will not leave your seat for hours because you will fall in love with your machine, sales! get some actors and show off the OS!!! i've noticed pc users love the dock, why not show that off. show that you can just put a cd in and it works, don't say it, show it, i see dell commercials that say they work great, burn cds and dvds so easily, blah blah blah, it's all talk till you show it. start walking apple, not talking. and get some people that don't make me wanna throw up.

Your just a typical pc user who is bashing the mac when you dont know anything about them. I encounter people like you every day and they are so annoying. but anyways, unless your pc is just for games i dont know how much fun you will have with it. whatever floats your boat.

I just realized today that I went to school with her. I saw the AD's yesterday, but nothing clicked. Then today (I have apple.com as my Home) her pict popped up and it just clicked. After doing a little research I concluded that I wasn't losing it and I did in fact go to school with her. I believe she was 1 year below me.

You're a typical Mac owner jumping to conclusions. I actually would like to own a Mac. Great OS. Fairly good quality control. Problem is, there is nothing currently in the Mac line up that is a fit for me. If the Power Macs didn't sound like blast furnaces, then I'd be interested. I do expect that Apple will get it together and quiet these things down.

No name brand, although new Dells are very quiet, and there are several manufacturers that build quiet PC's. Nothing is truely silent. A passively cooled C3, with a quiet power supply and a Seagate Barracuda is pretty quiet. I went for a P4 with a heat pipe cooler. I can find 7/8th of nearly any computer store full of upgrades for it. And it runs several of the leading OS's.

Kinda like the Betamax verses VHS? The best technology doesn't always win.

when talking about noise you need to remember that mac users are used to complete silience. so what is 'loud' to a mac user is not necessarily loud to a pc user. i think most pc users would decribe even the new powermacs as virtually silient. so if noise is an issue to you, you would probably benefit from actually using one of the machines. i dont know any pc tower that is quieter than the powermacs.

im not saying you are making the wrong decision, just that it doesnt sound like the most informed decision. but like i said its not necessarily wrong. many mac users woudl say the mac is so much better that you should jump in no matter what, but im of teh opinion that there are good and bad times depending on what your needs are. i also feel tehre is no good mac for me right now either. the g3 powerbook was the last mac i felt really fit my needs well (ive been waiting for awhile now). just keep an eye out for what you want and try to get better informed so when what you needs rolls in you will recognize it.

My ears informed me.
I suggest that people defending the new Power Macs go to a store and listen to one.

You should get the period and return keys on your keyboard fixed, pronto. They appear to be broken or something. ;-)

Apple has hit a home run with this "Switch" campaign. I like how they can get their point across without ever showing any technology. It gets the average person (consumer) to think, "Yeah, I know what that guy is talking about." Even it Apple doesn't end up being the solution to their problem, the person will start to think that there must be something better than what they are currently using today. I've seen people walk up to old iMacs and the look on their faces says it all, "This is unlike my normal computer experience." And that's what Apple is after.
