it gives better updates of what is actually happening. seeders/update times/download speeds/available packets/etc.

i vote for transmission too - its more user friendly and performs better

utorrent does the same, I used transmission in the beginning but then transitioned over to utorrent.

I downloaded a movie on uTorrent and recieved letter from my internet provider that if this occured again I would be fined for illegal Peer to peer sharing and they would cut my internet. By the way the movie was "Inglorious Bastards"

Well that would have happened with any torrent client.

I've seen for PC that they have IP blockers. Is there any such thing for the mac? I'm not a fan of advertising who or where I am...

can you download with utorrent, and then save the file on a USB thumb drive, then transfer the file to a HTPC (non-mac) and watch?

Thank you

Of course, as long as your USB drive is formatted FAT 32 (or something like that).

I use uTorrent, I found it was performing better than Transmission.
The only thing I miss is the ability to create Torrents (not sure Transmission does that either?).
The latest version of uTorrent has shown a lot of improvements too.

Transmission all the way.
uTorrent is promising, but lack crucial features (like create torrent file) and hence not competitive yet.

uTorrent is the best. It doesn't use many resources and it seems to download faster than my other torrent applications...I don't know why that is but I'm not complaining. But the main reason I like uTorrent is because it doesn't interfere with restarts/shutdowns. You can have torrents download while you're away, schedule your computer to shutdown at a certain time (using iWillQuit or something similar), and uTorrent won't cancel it, like LimeWire, Vuze, or xTorrent will. That's a HUGE reason why I love uTorrent.

I remember when using uTorrent on a PC and when starting a download you had the option of selecting individual files in the torrent to save. Is there a way to do that on the Mac version or uTorrent 1.0.0.1?

I don't know what version I have but I do not see a way of doing it on mine.

I did find out that on the Files tab you can right click a file or folder and set the priority or tell it not to download. It works, but it would be nice to be able to just pick the 1 file out of many instead of deselecting all but one... oh well

Actually I use both uTorrent and Transmission. I like all the features that Transmission has to offer, especially the filters, but for some reason Transmission runs very slow on my machine when I load up more than a few torrents. uTorrent is VERY lightweight and runs quiet smoothly, but it does not currently have the ability to create new torrents, so if there is a file that I would like to share with my friends, I use Transmission to create the torrent.

uTorrent on Windows, Transmission on Mac. That's it.

(uTorrent Mac sucks, IMHO).

Now as for people getting letters etc. you need to be smart enough to not torrent with your public connection. Use a VPN of some sort, there are even some free ones. Some work well with torrents, others do not. Might take some trial and error.

uTorrent is the best. I always get top speed download using it.
The lack of selective files download bugs me off a lil bit, I need to manually uncheck files I don't want to download.
Transmission on the other hand is effin slow.

I used to use Vuze/Azerus until it started to really bog down about a half year ago, since then I switched to uTorrent.

uTorrent does not seem to have all of the customizable features that Vuse has, but it seems much quicker.

I'll have to give Transmission a shot next.

^^ This. Stay away from Vuze. It's pure bloat. I've been using uTorrent recently (although I don't use torrents that much). I didn't like Transmission a few years ago though. Maybe it's better now?

dude not trying to stir anything up but vuze is garbage compared to transmission or utorrent, its like you might as well just have limewire. its an unnecessary resource hog that should be killed off.

You say this because...?

Explain yourself buddy.

He's right. Vuze is just Azeureus rebranded. It runs via Java which is crap, as is any emulated cross-platform environment.

Stick with uTorrent or Transmission.
