Yeah these are the connections

It has VGA, I think that's S-Video, and a power port. I found similar adapters, but most of the sites look like they were made in the 90s and haven't been upgraded since. Unfortunately, I did not come up with a part number yet...

Finding parts for these displays is going to be tricky at best. I see most sites are out of stock, and others say they are in but the site looks shady.

Well I appreciate your help. I know indefinitely can't use that brick as it has frayed wiring and probably can start a fire.

Dude! I'll take it! That's a DVI to ADC converter box!

I've got two Studio Displays I can't use without one of those and I'm having to use my old Cinema Display with an actual ADC video card until I get one of these.

If you are giving it away, again, I'll take it!

PM your address. I've got a box of old stuff I need to get rid of. Interested in a Palm TREO? :b

No one should have to run that risk to use a piece of hardware. Perhaps an expert like eyoungren can chime in here.

There is no specific replacement part number provided by Apple. There were a series of third party adapters but all are discontinued and the few sites that claim to have them in stock look really shady, like shadier than GainSaver.

Since the PSU put out 24 volts of power and used a standard input, using a universal AC adapter, could one, with the appropriate socket, use this display?

I found this adjustable PSU here that appears to be switchable to 24 volts and includes a number of tips. It appears also that one of the tips is strikingly similar to the original (3rd party) adapter the OP has!

What I am saying is that, the display draws up to 35 watts, an adapter like this can do 70. The display requires 24 volts and this adapter has that switch. I think it would work, and may be the only choice unless someone has this in their cable drawer.

Let the thoughts commence...

Expert? Where?

Oh, you mean me. No, all I've got is the lame suggestion of looking for the part on eBay.

I'd probably put something in like this in Google:

ebay.com Apple+M4551+power+adapter

See what comes up. It might also have the added benefit of giving you a part number. Some eBay sellers use the part number in their auction titles.

Tried and failed. Unfortunately, I believe the revision c of this monitor used a different power cord. Even that doesn't have any part numbers...

The part numbers that the OP has on the cable actually is for the company's wire but not the adapter or plug.

OP, How much was this monitor to begin with? Would you be interested in trying one of these universal adapters if you can afford it? It may be risky to the monitor, but if it was cheap it could go either way.

Got the monitor and a set of cube speakers for $40. Sure a universal adapter which won't light on fire like the one I have would be ok.

What's in the box? PPC equipment!?

It's a catch-all box. I've got a Kodak Retina II camera from the 1950s ( but that ain't free!) and a bunch of other varied stuff. You know when you go through stuff and you don't know what to do with it, so you throw it in a box? That's this box.

Well upon my Googling and eBay checking, I cannot get a part number for an adapter. I did find an OEM adapter for $100 temporarily out of stock. That is a little excessive since you can get a 23" Studio Display (ADC connector) for less than that on here...

I think that adapter will work, and has decent reviews. If the tips don't fit, then send it back. Amazon is great on that matter.

Whatever you do, make sure the voltage is set to 24 volts! Otherwise you may have some iSmoke from burning capacitors.

Thanks for looking, $100 is a little out of my price range for this. Guess it's a piece I will just hold onto until I find a solution.

That is exactly what I said! You can get a way better display for way under that. Try the $12 adapter I linked to. At the best, you just got a display for say $32.00, and at the worst you lost $20.00 as you could return the adapter and that is provided you value the speakers and display the same.

There is no physical reason that adapter would not work great with this display. I personally prefer OEM parts myself, but sometimes on antiquated hardware you need to make do. Give it a shot.

Just so you know, there is only one of the same displays on the US eBay at the moment. That shows you how rare they are.

Does this have any relevance?

Also, I picked up something from a 2007 thread at AppleFritters.com. Someone got one of these LCDs without the adapter. The cut the plug off the end of an iBook/PowerBook adapter (the yoyo type) (45W) and spliced in a female adapter they got from Radio Shack. Might be an option here? Presumably, you could just buy a new 45W brick and do the same?

I'm thinking I'll try a local electronics shop. The amazon link won't ship here (canada) but maybe they'll have something like it?

And yeah I see it's rare, only found one on eBay.ca

The OP doesn't make it sound like he or she is comfortable with most electrical work. I do not see the cord with it and that is why I bypassed it. There should be a built in part and a port for a standard 3-prong cord. It appears to be missing both.
