Yes, because frankly hard-anodised aluminium is a terrible material for something small with sharp edges that has wear and tear - would much prefer durable plastic! I dropped my iPhone 5 from one foot at the weekend (while trying to put it in the lower pocket of golf bag) - it now has two wrecked corners to go with many chips that seemingly come from nowhere! :\

Maybe you shouldn't be carrying your phone in your golf bag? That seems like an odd choice to me. Wouldn't it be getting banged up in there, amongst the golf balls, tees, and cleat tools and whatever else you have in there?. Could you even hear it if it rang?

If you don't plan on using it, why not simply leave it in your vehicle or club house locker?

Maybe because he does not want to take security measures for his phone(!)?
Sure you can avoid any situation that could harm an aluminum case.
Or simply hope they will offer you one made out of plastics one day.

iOS7 is fresh and funky

The whole "flat UI" trend is actually growing on me. I'm beginning to see the point of having straightforward UI that doesn't imitate real-world object and let digital UI be digital.

But in some ways iOS7 went too far. Drop-shadow needs to come back. Without it makes it hard to read texts sometimes, and that shifting background does *not* give the UI dimensionality dropshadow does.

I wonder what impact the 5C will have on the second hand value of 5's for those of us who are intending to sell our 5's to buy 5S's?

The same effect the "new" lower priced 4S had on used original "4S" phones: none.

People buying second hand are doing so because they don't want a contract phone. An unlocked 5C is going to cost about the same as an unlocked 4S today. So the 2nd hand market will be comparable with the 5C being the "new" iPhone 5.

Does this really matter, when multiple reports are saying the 5C will be limited to emerging markets? Maybe it will make its way here eventually. I can only hope.

Well, this is appears to be a dutch version... the netherlands (europe) are far from being 'emerging markets'; I'd say it's the oppsite, they're even more advanced than the US ;-)

Booooorrrriiinnnngggg.....

I already have a silver shiny iPhone that can do absolutely everything this thing can and it doesn't look as ugly of feel cheap.

So why on earth would anyone care about this anymore?

iPhone is old now. It's losing it's heat. I used to be the biggest apple advocate but every year it just gets less and less exciting while the others push as hard as they can go give you useful features cheap. And their polish has finally caught up.

well that is all fine and dandy, but not everyone has the latest iphone right now. Some of us are on older versions and are excited about getting something new. If you don't care then why did you take the time to create a user name and post a comment?

U..s...a.....!!!!!

So even if you do believe the phone will be limited to emerging markets, do you think everyone that reads MacRumors is from USA or something?

It's so bizarre that you can be so ignorant considering that it says where people are from, right in front of you on your screen.

I take it you try to limit how much you read each day? Don't want to tire yourself out unnecessarily with the strain of paying attention to things?

Than we are all doomed.
I'm a developer not even running it. Why do you have to ask? Is it getting any less ugly from using it. Maybe its like Windows 8 and only people who use it daily can overlook its ugliness.

Doomed...spoken like a true apple fan. Seriously? From what I took away it was either Ive vs Forstall...Ive any day of the week and twice on sunday. Do not get what people loved about Forstall...his maps fiasco? siri half baked? green felt? Yeah that guy did wonders, he was protected by Jobs and when Jobs was gone his real colors where shown.

I cannot take an argument seriously when you have not even used it. I have used it (not on my iphone, brother is a dev) and it feels slick, and fast and intuitive...if you are going off the color scheme on why it sucks, wow....get over it.

Nah, it's a mesh net on the side, I always put it in there in case of work calls (even though it was the weekend) - never been a problem until I missed the pocket! Before that the phone has lasted well as I've had it since launch but on close inspection there are many small chips on the sharp edge even though it's never been banged on anything before.

To solve the problem I could put it in a case, in which case it doesn't really matter if it's made of cheap plastic either. I carry it all day in my front pocket (by itself) so the smaller/thinner the form factor the better. I'm surprised the screen still seems to sit proud on the plastic phone if this is real though, always bugged me that it's not quite flush.

True

It seems iOS 7 is looking uglier every day. Bring Forstall back, he must save the company.
This is not gonna end well.

Not sure if Forstall is the answer but iOS 7 does look like they beat it all day long with an ugly stick. Yuk!!

pretty sure it can't be good for you. I would assume that you would have to come in at least $100 under the 5C for someone to be willing to not go with a brand new phone with a warranty. (obviously it depends on specs too. ie will it have siri etc.)

CBS News says the new iPhones will turn off consumers, so I guess Apple shouldn't even bother having an event tomorrow.

I will never get that minute of my life back. why did I bother?

Well it is just a day before the event and this is the first video of one actually running. The 5S is still kind of a mystery as well.

I'd say he didn't do too bad.

Especially when you consider he now has to have production ramping up months earlier than before, needing to have 5+ million units of each model ready for launch weekend. Considering that, and also considering the workforce is more than half-million workers living on the other side of the planet, yea I'd say he's not doing too bad either.

Obviously you are not a golfer. Ha ha ha. There are separate compartments for all that stuff. There is usually a nice lined pocket for your nicer things like watch or phone.

All these posts (some sounding so sure of themselves) that it will only be for emerging markets should recognize that if that was the case, that particular rumor would have long been out with Apple PR being the source.

I cannot imagine Apple choosing to withhold such a fact from the rumor machine and then rolling out such a negative PR surprise as announcing the much lower-priced phone that is essentially an iPhone 5 will not be sold to markets that can "afford" to pay the greater price for the 5s. The backlash would be miserable... a PR mistake on a big scale. The press would jump on that negative (which would appear to be a pure greed play) rather than spinning gush of the "next big thing" benefits of a new Apple phone.

Apple wouldn't make that mistake. If the plan was for the cheaper iPhone to be for only select markets (that can't quite afford the "full" 5s), Apple would have spread that rumor weeks or months ago. Imagine the repercussions if they rolled out such a perceived negative tomorrow.

Or why not put a case on it, if someone is going to be so clearly careless with it.

I laugh anytime people say "scratches appear from nowhere." Funny, I've never had scratches appear from nowhere. But then again, I don't toss my phone in a bag with a bunch of metal objects. Maybe people should start being a little more careful if they care so much about scratches.

how can you say he was careless? it is called an accident for a reason. did you even read his response?
