I think $400-$500 is too much when you can buy a whole computer from dell for the same price (actually cheaper)!

I paid that amount (actually a little higher, because I live in Turkey and we pay in European currency) for my 2nd generation iPod..

that was revolutinary at that point.. If something like described will launch, it surely will be as revolutionary..

a computer is something else, a portable revolutionary device is something else.. I dont care how much 'dell' I can buy, none of them makes a Mac anyway ;)

edit: I was beaten to the God of this forum guys if it'll make you happy afterall :D

The irony:

The April 1 video iPod is likely to be real.

Today's March 9 gaming iPod is an April Fool's joke

Yea but you can't put a Dell in your pocket and take it with you. You can't watch your Dell in class without the professor noticing. The comparison between a Dell desktop and an iPod is fully silly that's like comparing oranges and pears (but not Apples and Apples).

edit: Sorry Andy, I got beaten by toughboy if it makes you feel better.

I really wish that Apple would just make this "true video iPod" simply their UMPC. I REALLY want an Apple UMPC.

For up to $999? That's more than most of us have to spend on a fun new toy. $500 is pusing it, and $400 is within range for most gadget loving geeks and college students.

i hope its not an iPod for the 30 aniversity

apple was a computer company 30 years ago... not the music juggernaut that it is today

they need to release a unique and rare computer

This could be just another really good fake, but for what it's worth:

Apple probably didn't plan ANY product specifically for the 30th anniversary. They did that for the TAM, but it wasn't a great success. (Very cool though!)

Instead, if some products are ready around that time ANYWAY, they might get roped into an anniversary event. So anything from an iPod to a Mac to iPod Hats might get mentioned.

"None of the images are believed to be real at this time"

Shouldn't that be "None of the images is believed to be real at this time"?

I always get confused- but I think 'none' is singular, though I can never stop myself from saying 'none are' as opposed to 'none is'.

(Don't shoot me down if I'm wrong!)

Built in GPS would be awesome!

You know what else would be cool.... that it doubled as a GPS unit for your car. The form factor would be perfect!

That's the high-end of the projected cost for a UMPC. Hopefully, Apple could shave a couple hundred off of that. But $699-$799 -- I would definitely go for that.

Such a device would be great for someone with a desktop computer, who wants something basic and mobile, but doesn't need a full laptop.

The idea that it would ever be $400 is kind of ludicrous :) I don't even think a plain old video iPod could make it that low in the beginning.

I think a lot more will be revealed at the NAB Press Event Sunday April 23 than on Saturday April 1st.

Does that mean we get an iTimeMachine too? :p

This ones been online at least a week. Its a fake - notice his thumb goes counter clockwise and the video does not - nor is there any slider showing where your volume is or where you are in the movie.

Not that I think it's real but his thumb movement could very well be demonstrating the touchscreen volume control..

To me, this is worthless, because I can't imagine watching video on something like that while I'm doing something else, which is when I would generally listen to music. :(

I was hoping for a wifi enabled device, something with bluetooth, or something with additional coolness, than just a bigger screen iPod.

"Of note, April 1, 2006 falls on a Saturday -- which would be an unusual day for Apple to release a product."

Maybe Friday, March 31st? Or sometime that week? Which is only 2 and 1/2 weeks away! WooHoo!!!

"Is" is singular, I believe. "Are" is plural, I think. Thus, images being plural, the word 'are' fits.

i keep hearing all this talk about ipod video, but these would also have music capabilities right?might be a stupid question but i wasnt quite sure from what people have been saying

I'm guessing it'll either be the last Tuesday in March or the first Tuesday in April.

Which I believe would make that March 28th (odd how febs. event was also on the 28th) or April 4th.

my 2 cents.

The subject is "None" and the verb correctly matches the number of the subject. It is plural. None are, all are, few are, most are, etc.
I hate it when people criticize spelling and grammar in posts. But when they incorrectly criticize correct grammar, I have to say something. :)

Back on topic, I'm crossing my fingers for April 1. I gave my iPod photo to my wife, anticipating something new would be out soon. I'll pay $400 for it. $500 is getting a bit steep. I'm hoping the cheaper one has at least 30 gigs.

Maybe those Chinese characters on the original spy-shot are a date? If only we could decipher them!

(I still find it funny :p )

The subject is "none," not "images." "Images" is the object of the preposition. That being said, while in American "none" is always singular, in British "none" can be a collective noun, so that in British "none are" is perfectly acceptable grammatically, while in American "none is" is the preferred usage.
