New white iPod with video revealed!
(just read it in the ars IRC channel #macintosh)

320*240 pixel 2.5inch display 260k colours

30 and 60GB

EDIT:

also available in black

$299 and $399 respectively with over 75 hours video playback (?)

iTunes 6 released for the video iPod with 4 new features:

1. gifting (give someone a song/playlist/album)
2. customer reviews a la Amazon
3. Just For You personalised recommendations (beta)
4. video (allows for music video purchase - $1.99 for song and video or 6 pixar short films 320*240 res. - has DRM but no burning of videos)

The new iMac lineup prices are as follows: $1299 US for the 1.5GHZ 17-incher, $1799 US for the 2.1GHz 20-incher.

New iPod announced! The new iPod, as speculated, features video capabilities and the wider display, but it’s still a music-first device.

The device will feature a 2.5-inch display, QVGA resolution (320 x 240), and will MPEG-4 h.264 (natch), and presumably Quicktime.

More details to come…

the third menu item is ??, which translates as video frequency. I deciphered it before the announcement, but hey, busy server eh :p

Gotta love it if part of the big announcement is new iMacs, not the stuff everyone was expecting. (Gotta NOT love it if Enderle was one of the few who got it right :D Although he said black iMacs, not mentioning features.)

If AI's rumor is right about a new iMac and its features, this would be one very cool iMac! A nice consolation for delaying PowerBooks another week?

(And I do think black Macs are bound to come sooner or later--if not today--now that Apple knows there's demand from the nano.)

Thinner, faster, black iMac with videophone built in? Dare I dream? Wait--I don't need a new Mac... I can wait for Intel... I can wait for Intel...

Sounds like a long shot, but it would be cool.

We also have word of a new, flatter iMac with built-in iSight.
Wow, I hope so--that would be a very grand exit for the consumer G5s! Any word of black? (I'm guessing it's too soon--Apple hasn't had much time to react since seeing the demand for black nanos.)

The new iPod will be 30% thinner than the current 20GB iPod (making it 0.44-inches thick—say wha?), and will feature a 60GB version (which should be thinner than the current 0.63-inch thick 20GB iPod), and editions of both in black.

The 20GB should go for $299, and the 60GB for $399. They’ll be shipping next week.

What’s the device named, you ask? The iPod. That’s it, just The iPod. Well spare you the Prince jokes. The iPod will have TV out.

Stevie has iTunes 6.0 up there—only about a month after introducing iTunes 5.0.

Remote control bundled with all iMacs now? Is FrontRow a physical remote or an app? Sold separately for other Macs maybe?

iTunes 5 to 6 already? :D

Photobooth sounds silly, but still fun. Why not?

OMG! I looks like you can "gift" your tracks to other people. e.g AS far as I can tell you can resell them. Am I wrong on this?!?!
I think it means you can gift directly from the STORE, not from your library. They can then download the pre-paid song.

Black is good. I love my Pismo. It hides rought treatment better than the white and aluminum cases. I couldn't care less about videophone built in. I don't particularly want to look at someone or have them see me. Better battery life, a second removable hard drive for inline backup and a rugged machine are more important.

MR's frontpage says that it's a physical device. Six buttons, no display.

Yah why is it that Apple is incapable of making some of the most innovative devices I've ever seen from people NOT in the industry. IF some high school kid can whip up some cool design that would probably sell like mad why can’t Apple. Once again Apple has gone with the same old warmed over design. 30 years from now we are still going to be stuck with the same form factor just smaller.

Because said warmed-over design works incredibly well, and has revolutionized the music industry. It's only thing to create a Photoshop mockup that looks cool, it's another to create something like the original iPod. We're all standing on the shoulders of giants, not the other way around.

TV out is what will distinguish this iPod from other players. The mockups with the vertically oriented screen looked cool, but the scroll wheel is too low for comfortable 1-handed operation IMO.

Trust me when I say Apple probably had way more actual prototypes than the various Photoshop mockups people have made.

If you want something that looks 'cool', go buy a Zen whatever with glowing blue lights, but isn't nearly as easy to use (I've tried.)
