The 'Use Phone Screen One Handed' thing is interesting. I find it a stretch when holding the iPhone 5C in my right hand to get at a control in the top left corner of the screen.

It's do-able. But then, when I'm walking along and want to type a message, scroll through my music, etc, I rarely need to stretch to the furthest point of the screen. There is, also, the 'back' gesture' introduced in iOS 7.

To be honest, I'd sooner have a little more screen real-estate and the 'Back' button in the top left hand corner be completely out of reach.

I was for sure getting the 5.5 (if it comes out) but after seeing these, it seems the 5.5 would be ginormous! I thought the size it shows in the video would be about the size of the 5.5 and the 4.7 would be slightly in-between but it is actually a big jump. Starting to think there may not actually be a 5.5 but that they were just testing two different sizes, who knows.

Went back to Blackberry

Looking at these over and over again won't change the fact that the thing is too big no matter what. I just ordered an old Blackberry for my work. I'm sick of Apple mail anyway and with a big clumsy device I'm going back (while their still around at least).

I wonder if they will integrate touch ID into the screen with the iPhone 7 or 8. They will have to get rid of the home button eventually. I'm picturing a wraparound touch-screen covering the 100% of the phone, front and back. Wireless charging will make it seamless and waterproof. It will basically just be a small/thin glowing sheet of sapphire glass (or maybe diamond by then). It might be a few more years before we get that though :D

Ability to hold it in one hand and touch near the top or I'm not buying. I really hope the rumors about the 5.5" having features not in the 4.7 are false. I would never buy the 5.5" due to its size.

yes i hope so too...only OIS can 5.5" to have due to its size..but if sapphire is not in 4.7" i am angry

Design is about trade offs. You can get a one-handed phone or a roomier display. You'll have that choice. It's like the 11" MacBook Air versus the 13".
I don't carry a MacBook Air around in my pocket...

With a reduction in bezel width, a one-handed 4.7" display is entirely possible in something slightly larger than an iPhone 5/5s. It's about good design, and advancement in technology - not trade-offs.

Of course, the >5.5" device would sacrifice that ability, but if Apple introduce the two devices it will give consumers the choice.

I agree. Not feasible. My 5 is borderline too big as it is for one handed operation (95% of my daily use). Add to that the ongoing bugs and issues and I feel done with the iPhone. Never loved it much from the beginning.

I'm surprised that Macrumors can run this many stories about the 4.7" front panel without making any messurement of the bezels in comparasion to the iPhone 5/5s.

To my eyes, both top and bottom bezels does look significantly trimmed, but someone should make a messurement!

The side bezels look good but the top/bottom ones seem bulky.

One just hopes that the extra bulk is packing some worthwhile tech at least.

The bottom one, fine because it will have Touch ID. But LF have shown that a 5.5" screen doesn't need bulky bezels.

LF?

I think Apple's trademark round home button will mean iPhones will always have big bezels, so the screen-to-phone ratio will always be poor compared to phones that have on-screen or elliptical home buttons.

5.5" is very big for a screen in my opinion. I find 4.7-5" to be the perfect size.

regarding cases and what not, do you think the 4.7inch version will be more "mainstream" when it comes to case production? or will it be equal? (eg. i'm talking about how there are always iphone 5s cases in clothing stores and what not yet hardly any 5c cases)

Once you go above the current iPhone size, you basically have a tablet (that can also make calls), not a phone.

I'm hoping the current large screen fad doesn't drive Apple to abandon 'practical' phone sizes altogether (I think we should be alright for a while). I remember the days when 'small' phones were popular, that might happen again.

We all spend far too much time glued to screens as it is. I mainly just want my phone to make calls/txts, having the features of a mini-iPad in my pocket is secondary for me.

Fair enough. Not all products are for everyone. I own an iPad 4 - screen cracked so I never use it. Don't miss it, and won't be replacing it. However I absolutely love my Mac (even though it's starting to show it's age) and my iPhone.

"So 3 years support after buying rather than 4? How will one sleep at night".

Badly one imagines. My desktop Mac is 8 years old and running Mavericks without any problem. Can anyone say they will still be using an iPhone 8 years after they bought it, and if not why not? Shouldn't Apple be committed to customers who do not want to spend hundreds of pounds on a new phone every 2 years?

I just want the keynote to arrive already so we can see how Apple will address the usability questions of an even larger phone. Gruber discussed it at length a week ago on his podcast, and like him I'm fascinated how they are going to handle the marketing of this.

Do you just put your old phone in a drawer to rot? I sell my old iPhone every two years to pay for my new one. I usually end up with a slight profit. ;)

Lol I meant LG!

Yes I agree with your post pretty much entirely.

I just wish that LG, having done such a fine job with the G3, could translate that to a 4.7" phone without all these concessions. And then Apple could take their lead from that, at least on the top bezel.

I take your point but it's not as if MR is publishing these articles at the cost of other more worthy articles - sift out this type of stuff and we would end up with a website that only gets updated once every few days.

Yes, but unfortunately it's publishing them with an ever-diminishing sense of worth.

Hold the phone!!!

This thing is starting to look good to me again. I dumped the 5S for the G2, but it looks like Apple has reduced the bezels from the crazy renders we were getting. If this is the genuine face, it looks okay. If they make the resolution 1704x960 they have me, .... I think.

I'm excited for this release.

My only issue with having to wait is how many more 'filler' mockup stories will we have to endure on MR until then. My prediction is 30 more.
