The way that guy in the second video was going at that package with that rather large knife…..good thing it was only a shell.

Yeah, I was getting nervous for him. That was really the wrong tool for the job even if I'm sure it made him feel macho to use it.

I'm very impressed with my S4, coming from an i5. But give us an iPhone with a 5 inch screen and I'll come back.

I just switched from an iPhone 4 to an S4. I got sick of waiting for a worthwhile upgrade from Apple. It will take more than a 5" screen to get me back - it will take the following:

  • Real customization features
  • Widgets (see above)
  • SBSettings-like feature out of the box
  • SD slot
  • user-replaceable/upgradable battery (I loved the extreme light weight of my S4 but I just had to upgrade the battery - now I have a 7500mah battery and it is well worth the bulk; I can watch multiple movies and play games for a FULL day and still have a good amount of runtime left at the end of the day)
  • USB host mode (I love that I can plug in a keyboard and mouse and actually use it much like a PC)
  • Compatibility with standardized devices, such as MHL 2.0 interfaces
  • 1080p resolution
  • 2 GB RAM
  • "virtual" buttons in addition to home (like Android's Back and Menu buttons)
  • Better task management

Oh, and the ultra-high ppi display is amazing - I can read full-page PDFs because the characters can be fully drawn, not just be blurred approximations. Reference manuals, e-books, etc. all tiny fonts fully readable whereas on the iPhone I had to zoom to a column of text for it to render. I'm re-reading an RHCE study guide, puny yet fully readable text on this 4.99" 1080p screen. :)

I think the Champagne is going to sell very well, but I must say I'm very disappointed that it's a 5S and not a 6. I know it will be a better phone but it looks the same & Apple can't afford to be "safe" right now. Way too much competition.

Isn't going to happen. You might as well add "world peace" and "cats and dogs, living together!" to that list.

Well it looks like I saved $200 this year. IOS 7 should keep me occupied with my 5 til next year, and hopefully a slightly bigger screen iPhone 6.

BARF. No black no sale.
Was hoping to upgrade from my 3GS but since there is no black I will stick it out another year as my 3GS still does everything I need it to do.

Wait, who said there was no black? Did you really think they wouldn't sell their most popular option?

Why no iPhone 6? Don't understand Tim & the "safe" upgrade in such a dangerous time for Apple? Looking forward to it though as a huge Apple fan. Just wish we could experience a Jobs kinda breakthrough or one-more-thing this time round with the competition being tougher than ever in the smartphone market.

i guess with the two additional colors that gives options.
not as horrendously ugly as first thought it might be.

as far as doubling down on secrecy, with cheap labor and plants in foreign countries hard to really double down. PLUS, this keeps Apple in the spotlight for fans. (and Apple haters here)

That's funny, one of my friends recently made the jump to an HTC One and as soon as she grabbed my phone she sighed and said how much she missed a phone she could actually hold and type comfortably with.

Each to their own, it's not a problem to me but will be for others. I don't have overly big hands but the S4 feels quite comfortable to hold, even with a Spigen Neo Hybrid case on it. I mostly type using swype so most of the time it's with two hands anyway, that's not a big deal to me either over one handed typing, which I can still comfortably do if need be.

Agree with most of the above, comments in red for me.

exactly.... i thought the note 2 would be to big for me but it wasnt... to each his own indeed

The graphite 4S looks gorgeous. I sure hope that's legit! I never liked the back plate on the black iPhone 5, so this is a awesome!

Either this is all but confirmed, or this is the biggest disinformation/leak hunting from Apple ever.

Also, I'd have to see the gold/"champagne" in person. The forehead and chin look almost white and clash with the metallic gold back color in the photos. Maybe this is a prototype, or it just doesn't come across well in photos/videos.

Many of these would require engineering trade offs that Apple is unwilling to make. And Apple is unwilling to make those trade offs because Apple designs for "most people" (well, most people with hundreds of dollars to spare).

For example, SD slot will not happen because very, very few people use it in practice and in adds weight and cost. User replaceable battery will not happen because in order to keep thickness down, they have spread the battery throughout all of the available air space in the phone. User swappable batteries means that they have to go with a more rectangular battery– which means they can't use the oddly shaped gaps in the phone, which means either more thickness or less battery life. More people are demanding thinness and battery life than are demanding swappable batteries.

In short, it is all business, and it is working well for them. Don't expect your wishlist any time soon.

Apple has never added LED's to make their logo glow in any of their products and they aren't going to start now. Wishful thinking, not going to happen.

I don't think they would add LEDs to make the logo glow. However, I seem to recall that some models of the plastic iBooks and early MacBooks had a translucent window which used the screen backlight to make a glowing Apple logo when the computer was closed. Did I hallucinate that? Possible, this would have been during college for me.

It would add less than a gram

You obviously have not seen an iPhone battery - it is fairly rectangular, and easily for techs to replace. I upgraded mine and it took under two minutes. Minor design changes could make it user-replaceable. Apple is all about making it disposable, and over-charging for replacements to make it uneconomical to repair, and desirable to buy otherwise-uninteresting "upgrades." Colors? Really? Most people are going to slap a case on their new shiny, hiding the color anyhow.

Am I the only one who is calling BS....

Guys, you can buy replacement shells in all colors for your iPhone5 now...

All metal, in all colors. Translucent plastic ones exist too!

I am not an Apple hater - I liked my iPhone - a lot, and while I prefer Android tablets, I generally dislike it for phones but Samsung's TouchWiz UI takes it to a new level. Some things are slightly less user-friendly but it's overall much better than the iPhone, which has largely stagnated. I was holding out for the next iPhone, but the leaks (which in the past have proven very accurate) have been extremely disappointing, to say the least.

You're right about the battery, I misremembered that (was thinking of another gadget). None-the-less, I don't think average people swap out their battery and so introducing a operable hatch for that is a waste.

I've swapped batteries on my Android phone, but I think anyone in this forum is not the "center of market" for whom Apple designs. Same with swapping system storage on a phone (like the internal SD on most android phones). Most people have the cell phone store put in the SD card and then they never see it again. Having disks which can disappear at any time complicates things for Android (and Android user).

Again??

Yet another video of the BACK of a 5s? If there are so many parts and leaked phones around, why are they all of the back?? The only part of interest is surely the FRONT which is where the new fingerprint sensor is rumoured to be! I call controlled leaks!!

Gonna call it now - they're only gonna do 2 colors for the 5S, white and black. White will have the champagne colored metal while black will be the graphite.

Either this is all but confirmed, or this is the biggest disinformation/leak hunting from Apple

That's what I was thinking. While I find it unlikely, what if this was all a distraction and they were like BAM IPHONE 6 BABY!!!!
