Still prefer the slate option. Grphite might look nice on its own but the black plastic bars at the top and bottom make it look weird. Why can't Apple bring unified colored iPhone? :(

Increasing the screen size is innovation? LoL kiddo, there are tradeoffs if the resolution increased especially the apps that will not be optimized by it and developers who will consider another different resolution.
So what is so innovative about 5S? Different colour? Fingerprint scanner? Faster CPU?
All of it has been done before.
Sick of this 2 year cycle release crap. Will stay with my i5 till 2014...

1. can i have one graphite iPhone 5 please!
2. how can you bring a Big Knife to an iPhone case unboxing fight:confused:
3. Seriously, this worker is getting way out of his league, WTF:mad:

I just switched from an iPhone 4 to an S4. I got sick of waiting for a worthwhile upgrade from Apple. It will take more than a 5" screen to get me back - it will take the following:

  • Real customization features
  • Widgets (see above)
  • SBSettings-like feature out of the box
  • SD slot
  • user-replaceable/upgradable battery (I loved the extreme light weight of my S4 but I just had to upgrade the battery - now I have a 7500mah battery and it is well worth the bulk; I can watch multiple movies and play games for a FULL day and still have a good amount of runtime left at the end of the day)
  • USB host mode (I love that I can plug in a keyboard and mouse and actually use it much like a PC)
  • Compatibility with standardized devices, such as MHL 2.0 interfaces
  • 1080p resolution
  • 2 GB RAM
  • "virtual" buttons in addition to home (like Android's Back and Menu buttons)
  • Better task management

I can see you being on Android like....... FOREVER :D

What am shocked is..... it toke you so long to do the switch!!

SD card and removable battery! What about flash?

Sooooo....how come there are so many videos and photos of the 'new' iPhones, but none of them show the potentially only new feature, the fingerprint sensor? Seems odd. Seems like a "controlled leaks" to me!

lost magic

Curious how everyone wants Apple to innovate and surprise with new stuff and then these people do their best to ruin it by leaking the design. Are these people paying Chinese to steal these parts?
Then at the Show - everyone wonders why they get the ho-hum feeling.
Why not just wait and see.

I think they're only going to do 2 colors for the 5S, 'Black and Graphite' and 'White and Gold'. This way they'll assure consumers that if they get the 5S, people will know that you got a 5S and not a 5. Yes, it's somewhat silly, but it was a major complaint in the 3GS and the 4S, so they're kind of fixing that with new colors on the 5S. I don't think they'll do all 4 colors on the 5S, as they'll want to keep the color variety for the iPhone 5C.

And the iPhone 5C will probably be a re-packaged iPhone 5 in new plastic colors.

And every S model blew away previous phone sales. This S will be no different.

----------

In that second video you can clearly see the flash cut out is bigger on the graphite iPhone.

All these color options seem like a production nightmare that isn't really worth it. 2 lines of phones 4-5 color options for each line. 4 Carriers. 3-4 storage capacities.....do the math.

not very Apple.

I get the distinct impression from all these leaks that these are sanctioned controlled leaks by Apple. Note that all the leaks show only superficial changes - like colors or a oval shape for the new dual-LED. Yet, there hasn't been a single leak of the front and the rumored fingerprint sensor. Nor any of the internal parts which would serve as a "smoking gun".

If Apple really wanted to keep the fingerprint sensor under wraps, a good way to do it would be to distract the public and the media with controlled releases of things that don't really matter to Apple if they got leaked. Let's face it, none of what we're seeing is much of a surprise to anyone who follows Apple rumors.

Neither is the fingerprint sensor, but the implementation of it is probably something they want kept a complete secret. If these guys are getting leaked parts like cases, why couldn't they get the other parts as well? Thousands if not millions of complete phones must be built by now so you KNOW they exist.

My thoughts exactly. While the components may be manufactured in different factories, it seems remarkable that some are so leaky while others are seemingly leak-free. These components will he made in the same quantities so why aren't we seeing leaks of the fascias of the phones?

It's a classic diversionary tactic. Accept that there will be leaks and use that to your advantage by leaking the less important stuff yourself. This then keeps the interest diverted from the public, and more importantly from competitors.

Of course the alternative view is that the fronts are so identical that no-one can distinguish between 5, 5C & 5S!

Isn't going to happen. You might as well add "world peace" and "cats and dogs, living together!" to that list.

Might not be world peace, but it's a start ;)

I don't think they're going with the NFC route. It's just not that common in the US. I think Apple's own implementation will involve the usage of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and what they briefly revealed at WWDC - iBeacon. Do a Google search on it and I think you'll find it interesting. Possibly the most interesting thing that will come on Sept 10.

----------

They've offered multiple colors before with the plastic iMac, the iPod Mini, and currently, the iPod Touch. I'd say they have a pretty good idea of what % of colors to produce.

Flux,

Ok yeah I googled it and the ibeacon concept does sound pretty awesome. But as I said, I live in Japan, and NFC is freaking EVERYWHERE! The BLE and iBeacon concepts are likely going to take a while to pick up, IMO. I want NFC so I can use my iPhone here to get on the train and pay for stuff at convenience stores. Japan is really a cash economy, and having this in our iPhone and being able to pull money direct would be cool. Heck, you can't even use your credit card here at many stores. Apple needs, and likely is, thinking about more than the just the US.

What about flash..? Are we missing something here?
It's kind of sad that every time someone suggest one of the the features that are not available on iPhone, they are immediately regarded as Android Trolls :(
I have been (and still am) devoted Apple user since Apple II C days, is it too much to ask and suggest for some feature that is not currently available on iPhone without being labeled as Troll?

If there is a screen increase, the best leak would be the normal 4 inches. Then surprise everyone.

Me no want bigger screen and reason to upgrade my 4S.

Me want pretty colours!

Apple design man make "new" phone pretty colour.

Apple design man very clever man 'cos my 4S only silver colour.

Can't colourise any more, my ass!

Beat THAT kind of 'innovation' Samsung!

As you bother to read this thread AND come up with the usual rubbish, you can't deny that you wish you could get the iPhone 5S too, if you had the cash.

Or his life must so miserable that he can't stand or envious of seeing people take joy at little things in life.

The Slate colour has very likely been mothballed.

The 5S (and probably new iPads) lineup will be graphite/black, silver/white, and champagne/white. Three options is enough.

*Ahem* Please go check out their MacBook lineup.

The logo on the MacBooks uses the screen backlight to illuminate the logo, there's no extra LEDs added at all. This is why the logo gets brighter or dimmer as you adjust the screen brightness.

It will not be name champagne. Champagne is a trademark all over the world due to the alcoholic beverage.

http://www.01net.com/editorial/6019...ellation-champagne/?google_editors_picks=true

Nonsense.

1. Trademarks are restricted to specific markets. Someone having a trademark on a beverage doesn't stop anyone from using that name for a phone.

2. "Champagne" is not a trademark. It is the origin of the beverage. By calling it "champagne" you claim that a sparkling wine is created in the Champagne region of France, somewhere around Reims, and if that is not true, you are lying to your customers.

3. "Champagne" is also used as a colour name. If a phone is champagne colour, you can call it champagne colour.

I don't think they would add LEDs to make the logo glow. However, I seem to recall that some models of the plastic iBooks and early MacBooks had a translucent window which used the screen backlight to make a glowing Apple logo when the computer was closed. Did I hallucinate that? Possible, this would have been during college for me.

Yep they still do that. Depending on how bright hour screen is the your apple logo will still shine. It's how I could tell my old MacBook used to be taking a while to sleep when I closed the lid.
