Black ultra never appealed to me since I was always a stainless silver person. I currently have the ultra and really do like the grey finish.

I have a Series 8 which I purchased this year, and it's my first Apple Watch. This was the first model that I truly wanted -- I managed with lesser devices all those years. I hope it lasts at least 4 years. I have family members still happy with their Series 3, 4, and 5.
Isn’t the 8 the same as the 7?

I think I am going to hit this one. I have an S6 I bought when it first came out. Titanium. Black. It was a big step up from the 5. The battery is now at 78%. I'm going to get the Ultra 2, and then I will wait for the the 2nd year of the X on the theory that with the big changes we are all expecting it will take a while for things to shake out.

The 6 was a big upgrade from the 5? How so? I’m still using my 5 and the only compelling upgrade I’ve seen since is the full keyboard that came with the larger screen on the 7.

Either upgrading this year to the Ultra 2 or not for a couple years from my Series 8. It depends on multiple factors.

I appreciate this forum is filled with those who love the latest and greatest (and so be it!), but with the temptation of an alleged Series 9/Apple Watch 2, I’m curious - (a) what watch do you have now?; (b) how long have you had it?; and (c) how long do you genuinely intend on keeping it?

Still using my S6 SBTi since release.

I may or may not buy a S9. Depends on features/capabilities/finish. Skipped the S7 & S8 - not enough different to justify the cost to me. Also didn't like the lake of an S8 SBTi or SBSS.

If I do buy a S9 I will likely keep my S6 -- for what it'd fetch in resale - even with it having a fresh battery - I may as well keep it to use overnights for sleep monitoring.

Brighter AOD made a noticeable difference during outdoor activities, as did the noticeably faster CPU.

Those differences may not have had any impact in your usage, but they did in mine

I have the S8, if there is a really compelling reason that S9 brings such as longer battery life or additional features, I will upgrade. So, no!

I've been using a Series 7 since the Series 8 was about to be announced. I hadn't worn a watch for around 17 years.

The heart-related functionality was important and I haven't seen any significant changes to that that would make me want to switch to a newer model. Perhaps, when the battery needs to be replaced, I will look at another model.

Ah the brighter AOD sounds good to me but they made it brighter again for the 7. THought half the people in this forum seem like the AOD is a minor feature to begin with which blows my mind… thats what made me finally want a watch.

The max brightness didn't change - 1000 nits for each - but the S7 could be brighter indoors when inactive. Since that wasn't a problem I needed solved, and since the S7 cpu wasn't claimed as any faster than the S6 cpu, I had no reason to upgrade. See here.

When the S8 came out and Apple dropped the SBTi model - and went from SB to Graphite on the SS model - I again didn't see any reason to upgrade. Just haven't been a fan of the Graphite finish. I suppose I could tolerate it with enough other benefits to offset the finish "downgrade", but the S8 didn't meet the bar and we'll see about the S9.

I have an AW8. If Apple comes out with an Ultra that is 45mm, I will trade this one in a second. Otherwise I keep it until it dies or won’t last a solid day.

I would love an Ultra, but my wrists are too small. My 45mm AW8 looks just slightly too large, but I tried a 41mm and it looked tiny.

Well aside from the bluetooth that’s pretty mehh and I don’t even know the improved Bluetooth makes much of a dif either.

Right, but still not the same. Or they are are the same, depending how granular you want to be. You could say that S0 to S8 are all basically the same Watch. If you have an S0, S8, and a Rolex all next to each other you’d easily say two Apple Watches and a Rolex for grouping.

So different. But the same. But different.

I have a launch-day AW6. I find the battery a bit marginal even with AOD turned off. Other than that, though, it's fine, and I now charge it twice a day. If the battery life of the AW9 is interestingly better, I might get one. If the clearance sales of AW8s are good enough, I might add an AW8 (and use the S6 at night). But more likely, I'll wait until significant new sensors come along, presumably in an AW10 or 11. I generally go 4-5 years on phones and 6-8 on Macs; the watch should be in the same vicinity.

Went from an S3 to an S6, the improvements were pretty good: much more responsive, AOD, ECG, fall detection, and Blood Oxygen monitoring are all great features to me. Battery life, however, seems to have taken a hit (I used to end the day with around 40% battery on my S3), but I guess that’s to be expected with the extra features.

My battery health is currently sitting at 74% and most weekdays I’m ending the day with 20% battery, closer to 5% on weekends when I stay up later, so I’m likely getting the S9. The S9 is rumored to finally have a new processor and I’m hoping that helps improve battery life. I’m also thinking of going cellular with my watch- it would be nice to go for a run and not have to bring my phone with me.

I'll keep my Ultra until it either gets annoying to keep it or there's a lot of new health/fitness tracking features. The Apple Watch is actually one of the Apple products I care least about since it's more of a passive device that just sits on my wrist. So, I don't really get tempted by new watches until my current one becomes irritating.

I wear my watch like 23/7 (one hour for charging) to get the most health and fitness data I can, and the main reason I upgraded to the Ultra from the S5 was that my S5 started not being able to last through the day, requiring multiple charges in a day. That became really annoying for me. Fast charging was such a big improvement too.

Currently an S6 and it’s still working fine, but I am somewhat tempted by an upgrade, not only for the couple of added features, but also to switch from my current Wifi model to a Cellular model and to have a new battery (mine is already degraded quite a bit). I’m still undecided though because rationally I should probably wait one more year.

Just bought a Series 6, changed its battery and seals. Planning to use it until they add an insane health sensor (which is actually useful/accurate, looking at you temp) or we get a 2nd generation of the supposedly new design.

Currently using a S7 Graphite for daily activities (not workouts). I’d upgrade to a S9 for better battery life and an action button. I’d consider an Ultra again for 3+ day battery life and if the weight was reduced so I don‘t get HR dropouts.

As long as the new ones are way better feature wise and of course aesthetics.

I purchased the series 8 last March so will be hanging onto it for now, I'm not sure how long I'll keep it at this point but being budget conscious I will keep it until the next new version drops and I will be trading my iPhone 13 pro this year/month. Hoping I don't have any problems updating the watch connect with the new iPhone 15.

You'd likely find that a battery replacement would substantially improve your existing watch's battery life.

What's it say in Settings->Battery->BatteryHealth?
