Good luck with that. I tried the same thing with my Series 5 a while back. It took a while to get down to 81%, but then it felt like it stuck on 80% forever. It ultimately went back up to 87% after a software upgrade, but I gave up on trying. If it were me, I'd just use it as you normally do & extend the apple care month to month to get to 79%. But I hope you have better luck than I did.
It has collapsed from 95% to 82% since Feb so pretty sure it’s a duffer. Also, doesn’t last very long eg. Only 4hrs gps on a bike ride before dying, and charges from 0 to 100% in less than an hour.

I appreciate this forum is filled with those who love the latest and greatest (and so be it!), but with the temptation of an alleged Series 9/Apple Watch 2, I’m curious - (a) what watch do you have now?; (b) how long have you had it?; and (c) how long do you genuinely intend on keeping it?
AWUltra after v4 and v7. The ultra was the watch I wanted from the beginning and I absolutely love it. I do not consider it reasonable to try to forecast when/if it will ever be replaced until first seeing what a new replacement exactly would be.

I have the Series 8, had it since launch day. Intend to get the Series 9 on launch day.

Got a new ultra at almost half the price two weeks ago. Obviously, I do not intend to replace it.

I am currently on a Series 5 which is nearly 4 years old. I’m still on the fence about upgrading this year to be honest as the leaks aren’t suggesting anything significant or interesting and my watch gets through a day. If I do upgrade I may try and get a series 8 stainless off eBay or something, just to feel like I’ve upgraded something at least.

Crossing all fingers for an Ultra light: 47 mm, flat screen, 20% lighter and thinner, preferably a darker hue of grey = Take my money! I`d pay the same price as regular Ultra.

I have a… I don’t even remember the number, lol... Apple Watch 6, I think. I don’t see any reason to upgrade. I didn’t see any reason to upgrade to the 7 when it came out. And I didn’t see any reason to upgrade to the 8 when it was released. I’m very much happy with my current watch. It has gotten a lot of use over the years (tracking my walks, runs, cycling, hikes, strength training, yoga, sleep, etc.), but it is in very good condition and the battery seems fine.

Eventually I’ll upgrade, but this year doesn’t seem like the year to do so.

Launch Ultra here, not planning on upgrading to the rumoured Ultra 2 unless it comes with some new must have feature we’ve not heard about. What I would like to see is some new Ultra bands come out.

I have had the s4 for 5 years now. I still works fine. I do think I will be upgrading to the 9. I’m worried about the rumors ( and I do realize they are rumors) that  is going to go to magnetic bands with the Apple watch next year. I have a truckload of bands and would like to use for a while longer. Did anyone else hear this rumor?

I currently have the S6. With prior iterations (S2 and S4), I just purchased it when I decided to get one, and then when I wanted an upgrade. Now, I decided to wait for the S9 instead of getting the S8 and will purchase it as soon as it's available for ordering.

I got a S0 on launch and have upgraded every year since (S2, S3, S4, S5, S6Ti, S7Ti, Ultra).

Absolutely love the Ultra. I will be upgrading to Ultra 2 without a doubt.

it was mentioned in this article

Apple won’t completely make the old bands obsolete, they charge at least £49 a band and they know many people will have hundreds, if not thousands invested in them. It would be a scumbag move to phase them out completely.

it looks like 230M+ AWs have been sold thus far in 8 years, and I would guess that Apple has sold at least 1 band for each and every of those 230M (on average), so at $50 per band on average, that's $11.5B! so today likely more than $1.5B per year.
Why would a company in their right mind go and start eroding that revenue stream?
The Ultra would have been the perfect vehicle to not make watch bands compatible, but they didn't. They were smarter than that.

Exactly. I think the magnet strap story will prove to be a red herring. I go swimming in a deep lake with a sport band and it always feels secure. I wouldn’t want to do anything adventurous with a magnetic fastening.

I agree that Apple likely sells a lot of bands, but disagree that Apple sells at least one band for each watch. Or rather, since each watch always comes with a band, there has to be some number of people who just use the band that came with their watch, and never fork over an extra $50 for just the band. So you can't extrapolate how many bands Apple sells from the number of watches sold.

I have last year's Ultra. I probably won't upgrade it for 3 or 4 more years, unless there is some kind of significant breakthrough like blood-pressure or glucose-monitoring...

...or until it drops into a lake during kayaking, which has happened to me not once but twice!

that's why I said "on average", 1 person buys 10, 9 don't buy any, that averages to 1 per person.
I still think it' a billion dollar biz for Apple per year

👀
What band(s) were you using? And aren't the Ultra bands designed to prevent accidents like this?

I’m holding onto my Ultra for at least 4 years unless like you said Apple launch a blood pressure or blood glucose sensor with the Apple Watch.

AWU here purchased in July knowing that apple might release a AWU2 but I came from a AW SE 1st gen and I desperately wanted the upgrade I doubt the new color and faster processor will make a big difference for AWU 1st get owners to upgrade in my opinion
