Then why does Apple need an 'Editor-in-Chief'?????

Hell. Just opened up the News app on my iPhone and The Washington Post (fake news) and CNN (very fake news) popup right at the top of my feed. Subscribed to neither of them. Have some of my subscriptions sprinkled in there but have to scroll several pages/screens down to have my feed be 100% of my subscriptions.

Hell, I have both The Washington Post and CNN disliked and they show up in my feed. Right at the top

Going back to my question, I can answer it for you. Apple wants to curate 'news' to push their agenda. They are a public company and a companies sole existence is to make money so I don't blame them.

Just sucks. Would rather have Apple release a macOS/web version of the News app (or hell all of their integrated iOS apps) so I can sync/view on a larger screen/computer. But hey, that would be delivering news products and it seems like Apple is more interested in positioning itself to/pushing content and services.

It seems you are looking for editorual rather than actual journalist-based news reporting.

I think Apple News may be able to accommodate your tastes by just selecting specific "news" sources that only talk about what you want to hear.

I think the design is pretty good but I anytime I spend any time in it I always end up thinking I'd rather be scrolling twitter

Here's hoping they'd focus on bringing it over to macOS too. News is one of my most used apps on the iOS platform but I spend more time on Macs than on iOS.

What does that new commitment mean for MacRumors on Apple News? Will they be blocked completely? What about satire? Will they be censoring that too since half the time it has "click bait" titles (The Onion)..

Curated news. What could go wrong?

I'm not saying my way is the best way but I bounce around between all news sites from CNN, Independent, Fox News, and such. I also cut out all editorials and try to stick to just factual news articles. Lastly I try not to form an opinion on something until at least 3 days after a story breaks. This also allows the truth to surface over knee jerk emotional articles.

Makes processing news in a digital age much safer.

Edit: forgot my last tip which is to avoid articles that ask questions in the headlines. Look up Betteridge's law of Headlines

I'd ignored the app previously, but this article pushed me to try it and its pretty slick - since you select your sources and it aggregates.

Can i say this???
Maybe this new hire will make the "dislike" and "like" buttons mean something. I have hit "Dislike Channel" so many times only to be bombarded with the same political stuff I'm trying to block. It is safe to say that Apple News has an agenda...

There is no problem at all with your post since you are not discussing politics or a political issue.

Still not available in Canada, even though the widget displays the news, and news relevant to Canada and to my location.

It obviously works in the background, but Apple refuses to make it available to Canadians.

Not sure what the big deal is. But It's been like this for years, we never got iTunes Radio, it took 1.5 years for Apple Pay, and a few other things over the years that I don't recall now.

Came here to mention the same thing. Wish we could try this out in Canada (well could always change the region, but I'd prefer not to do that).

How many countries is Apple News actually in?

Such a joke that Apple News is not available in Germany yet despite the fact that it's already built in the control center lol

They probably have to negotiate with all the individual media outlets, which takes time, so maybe they're doing it on a country-by-country basis.

I wish it was available in Canada, too. Its "widget" works for some reason, though.

^For a workaround, I changed my location in Settings to "United States" years ago and the News app has worked for me ever since.

uh wat? this is obviously about Apple having an edge in controlling news stories people see.
Are you aware that you can pick and choose to tailor your own news stream to the publications you follow? There's a main news stream, within which you can mute sources and add them at your leisure. You can also just go directly to an individual publisher. Sounds exactly like the opposite of "controlling" to me. But no, you're just spouting off about "control" despite the fact that you clearly don't use Apple News.
