I wonder how many people check domains availability for iSlate now on this forum:D

And then realize that:

"i s l a t e" can translate into "iSlate" **or** "is late" (as previous posted already pointed out).

I challenge you to do a better shop job than that.

Challenge? The only thing that's challenged is the mental facilities of the semi-adult forging the Apple store for kicks. Go directly to jail, and do not collect $200 dollars.

This is a really weak rumor.

He might have said exactly the same thing if he didn't have any inside knowledge of an Apple tablet -- because of all the Apple tablet rumors.

The point of his speach is that they need to figure out how they are doing to deal with digital distribution, whatever forms it may take.

Don't be surprised when you read next week that Bill died of some mysterious internal injuries or unidentifiable poison...ninja-style. (just kidding, Bill! But seriously, watch your back).

Seriously Bill, you need to hire an entourage of Ninjas' and leave the philanthropy to David Suzuki.

This coming from a user with a "Go!" avatar in the shape of a stop sign? Phhhh...

On a more serious note, I bet this guy is getting a call or two from Apple lawyers today.

"Impending" could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months. And "slate" ?

That's a magazine isn't it?

I think it should be called after it's predecessor. The Newton II.

If Apple itself weren't such a strong brand, I'd be concerned about the disconnection of iPod. Assuming this tablet device comes out and is basically a giant iPod touch, I'll be curious how they connect it to their other brands, if at all.

I kinda hope so, if you're meaning a stylus. I find that some people write faster than they type. Plus, with drawing programs, a stylus would be much easier to use than your fingers, IMO. Fingers are too clumsy; they're not precise enough. I'm sure some people will say "Why would you want to draw on a tablet anyways? Use a desktop!" Well, some people may prefer a tablet to a desktop.

Yeah, namely designers on the go.

I think 'II' is a sequel better left on titles like "Home Alone" and "Weekend at Bernies."

You guys are morons. A "Slate" is just a tablet pc that doesn't have a keyboard, it's screen only. It's not a name, it's referring to the form factor, which we already assumbed to be a slate.

Someone obviously decided to just flip it and start calling it the slate as if it was the name. I think we all know that it's not the official name. Relax.

I don't mean to douse water on this flame, but I work with a lot of publishers, and they are all very scared of the Apple tablet. They're scared that this mystery device will come along and blindside them like it did with the music industry. But in reality, they have no idea... they're just scared... nobody has any concrete details. And they're all trying to position their businesses to be able to distribute to new devices, including the tablet they don't know exists...

so... maybe this guy has details that nobody else has, but I think he's just like all the other publishers... that they assume an apple tablet is imminent... and that it is going to shake up the publishing industry

I think that in itself speaks volumes of the quality and efficiency of Apple.

"Slate" doesn't sound very Apple-like. Maybe this editor doesn't have much personal interest in tech and said the word "slate" when he meant to say "tablet." Slate is probably his version of "whatchamacallit."

I agree. It just doesn't fit in with existing branding.

I believe that would be your iFinger.

I don't think your iFinger will be enough. Especially if this thing is supposed to replace textbooks and notepaper. You often need to draw things (diagrams, tables, etc.), so you can't just type, and your finger is just not accurate enough for that. I think Apple will either have to include a stylus, or all students will end up buying one anyway.

Like "The Madness of King George III"? Oh, wait, they changed that.

Apple will announce a new device with built-in 3Mp camera and voice/speech-recognition, which they will name the iAyeEye

I am very excited for the Tablet! I have been a Mac user for about 4 or 5 years, so it seems like I have been hearing Tablet rumors as long as I can remember. Can't wait for it to FINALLY become reality!

I hope it does NOT require a data contract though!

Also, I think I am just as excited about the type of new digital CONTENT that will come with the advent of the Tablet as the Tablet itself!

islate, istone or imarble will only came out when a dual cortex a9 will be available...
