I'm really looking forward to purchasing the 160GB model, but wow it just got way to expensive. When do you guys think the price will go back to the $450-$500 range?

shopblt has it for $479 with 9/21 availability.

I would recommend waiting for few weeks until next great ebay/bing deal. I am sure Bing would bump up cashback to 15-20%+ before thanksgiving and once availability gets better it will sell close to the retail price.

What’s up, guys? I just purchased a new Macbook Pro (2.66 GHz, 4GB Ram, 360 GB HD, 15.4”) yesterday from one of the Apple Stores in my city. I purchased this Intel X25 34nm 80GB drive from CostCentral.com very quickly this morning when I saw the price at $239 with free shipping. Interesting note that they had 85 in stock this morning and now have only about 22 in stock.

The below link is the SSD that I purchased from Costcentral.com. Unless I didn’t read correctly, is the SSD that I purchased from CostCentral.com compatible with my current Macbook Pro? The reason I’m asking is because I had a question about the Mfg Part numbers on some of the SSD's listed in this thread. What is the difference between the Mfg Part #: SSDSA2MH080G2C1 vs the Mfg Part #SSDSA2MH080G2R5? What is the significance between the last different two characters (C1 vs R5)?

The R5 is the retail package, which contains the hard disk mount and a nice intel box along with instructions and stuff. The C1 comes without the hard drive mount and just the SSD

You can't argue with the fact that intel uses the faster NAND flash even if specs appear nearly identical to the Kingston. They're not the same afaik.

Just a heads up if anyones interested.

There's a new X25 G1 for #185 US shipped on Ebay and with %8 off Bing that's $170

Not a bad price for this. This guy gets them in occasionally and dumps them. Feedback suggest a lot of happy customers

i got my 80gb G2 intel from buy.com yesterday(ordered Friday 9/11. very happy, and got it for $232 shipped.

Except that the Kingston is a rebranded G1 (not the G2) and you don't get Intel support (firmwares, ecc.)...

Isn't the S2/Series 2 = Intel G2? And since there are both 80 & 160GB Kingston versions available, it would appear they are the same. It also appears that the Kingston does use Intel firmware updates:

"The Kingston SSDNow M series also gets a thums up as it uses the Intel firmware updates, features a three-year warranty and comes with the support of KingstonCare. When buying a hard drive you should want something that is reliable and stable, which is something you can be certain of when it comes to Intel/Kingston."

So, are these the same drives??

Add Crucial M225 etc to this with only slightly worse test scores than the x25 but on power with ocz vertex and you have value. Novatech £218

Might as well add the Corsair X series up there too. I guess any of these mentioned drives are probably a pretty good choice in the end with price and availability being a deciding factor.

Looks like it's generally becoming more available, but I'm still going to wait to sell my current SSD and until the price drops to ~$430 (160GB).

The 80 GB is a great deal now if that's what you need!
