You got the Gen 2. Notice the ending of the serial #. G2 = Second Generation. The black outline you said is a spacer to make it fit in 9.5mm 2.5" bays and you remove it to make the drive fit in 7mm bays. Like the above poster said, if the drive is aluminum then you got the new one.

So Newegg has them listed once more except now they have an ETA of 8/28. Why such a long delay?

I hate the wait too. I wish they'd just let me order the one with the old firmware and let me flash it myself.

But they said it would take 2 weeks for them to fix and test the firmware. Give or take a few days, and then they would ship it out to distributors which also takes time. I guess it's not too unreasonable to expect 4 weeks ETA time.

I think it is. They recalled the firmware about a week ago, meaning they've still got a week to tweak the firmware before the RTM shipment goes out. Does it take three weeks to get it to retailers? I just want to give Intel my money. :(

ETA == Estimated time of arrival, so who knows, maybe we'll get it sooner. I really hope so. I've been impatiently waiting since the recall.

I received 1 today and 2 more tomorrow from NewEgg (1x80 and 2x160 for a music server - headless Mini).

I know SSDs have their uses, but why would you want one for a music server on a mac mini? They're best at random reads, not at sequential reads.

Unless you have more than a few clients needing music files at the same time, a SSD won't give value for money, and even then, you'll probably saturate the gigabit ethernet connection first.

Have anyone heard anything about the updates to the X25-E? In the original leaked roadmap, this was supposed to be updated the same quarter as the X25-M...

I remember reading somewhere that Intel was planning on releasing a 128GB version of the X25-E by the end of this year. I think it is unlikely since Intel did not release a 320GB X25-M.
