Newer iPhones Allow You to Measure Someone's Height Instantly — Here's How

I would consider usage of this for estimation purposes only. It's reasonably close but not terribly precise at a distance. If you want precision, you still gotta pull out the tape measure.

Feet and inches. Nobody uses that.
nobody in their right mind use this .... (waiting for all the americans to go nuts)
if you think feet and inches is better then the metric system you are uninformed.. I know it would be a hazel to switch because you know how to ride a horse so why switch to a car?
just to compare
1 barleycorn =1/36 feet
1 inch = 1/12 feet or 3 Barlycorns
1 hand = 4 inches or 1/3 feet or 12 Barlycorns
1 foot = 4 hands
1 yard = 3 feet
1 chain =22 yards

now please convert now add 1 inc and 1 hand and 1 foot and 1 yard and 1 chain pls ...

lets look at metric

1 milimeter =0,1 cm
1 centimeter= 10 mm
1 meter = 100 cm
1 kilometer = 1000 meters

so one of each would me 1,0010101 kilometers or 1001,0101 meters or 100101,01 centimeters or 10010101 milimeters

and the scale goes on ... and like it or not you already use int in everything to do with science. like

1kilobyte x1000 = 1 megabyte x 1000 = 1 gigabyte x1000 = 1 terabyte.... now please convert that to how many barleycorns of data you have ;)

Many of us in the UK also use Imperial measurements. In fact, we use both, so that makes us more adaptable and superior to all others. ;) Seriously doh; I use miles for distance, feet and inches for height, stones and pounds for a person's weight, but I'll use mm, cm and metres for stuff like woodwork because I really, really cannot be arsed using stupidness like three sixteenths of an inch or whatever, because that's just insane. Who would do that???

I (‘short guy’) was in a Sauna when I saw a very tall man with the shortest d*ck ever. Girls, don’t get yourselves disappointed
One; why are you looking at someone else's d!ck, and two; why would it only be girls who are disappointed? 🤔

Actually, NASA did use SI-Units for the moon landing. E.g. the lunar module's computer calculated in SI (but showed readings in imperial units for the benefit of familarity for the astronauts who were all trained pilots)
As in most large, complex projects, a mix of metric and imperial systems was used. But Apollo predominantly used imperial units. For instance, the engineering drawings were all in imperial units.

This app has been surprisingly useful and it is pretty accurate.

USA Myanmar Liberia 350 million people vs 8 billion people elsewhere. On a relative basis it pretty small, Almost nothing!. 4% is pretty small
Yet that 4% of world population accounts for about 1/3 of iPhone sales, so yeah, outside of 1/3 of Apple’s market, almost nothing.

tried to do it myself check my height and had a very dumb moment and realise it required the back camera not the front 😂 😣

I beg your pardon? This is the United States of America. We don’t use anything else. Even if we are just the only ones left.
It is the United States that is out of step of the world, not the other way around... I mean Gallons, who uses Gallons anymore.

After long time spent on HD Forums I began using miles and learnt my height in feet-inches :D
Not to worry. I will be out of the USA for about six months and I will soon have to adopt metric It is easier to learn and makes more sense than Imperial.

Another example of the kind of feature Apple keeps ramming down our throats. It'll be useful for a few. But most people never asked for it and will likely never use it. Apple needs to spend more time and effort fixing bugs - of which there are many.
Beg to differ. Apple is not "ramming" anything "down our throats." This is about the first article I have seen since it was released and that's why I read it.

The article is submitted by Apple, fed from their PR people or anything like that. It is Sunday and Sunday almost no tech news to publish or report on. It brings fluff pieces that are written well before being run on Sunday

Also, I don't think your bug issue has anything to do with resources devoted adding LIDAR and an app to make it functional for users. Apple fixes bugs very quickly after they have been validated. They have also greatly expanded reward and incentive programs for users, hackers, developers, etc. They are doing a pretty good job.

iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, and iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models feature a LiDAR Scanner next to the rear camera that can be used to measure a person's height instantly in Apple's preinstalled Measure app.

iPhone-Measure-Height.jpeg

To measure a person's height, simply open the Measure app, point your iPhone at the person you want to measure, and make sure they are visible on the screen from head to toe. After a brief moment, a line should appear at the top of the person's head with their height measurement. You can choose to have the measurement displayed in feet-and-inches or in centimeters in the Settings app under Measure → Measure Units.

The app measures a person's height from the floor to the top of their head, hair, or hat. You can even measure the seated height of a person in a chair.

The circular shutter button in the bottom-right corner allows you to take a photo of the person with their height measurement and share it with them.

The feature is not available on iPhones without a LiDAR Scanner.

Never worked on my iPhone 12 Pro. When you open the app and start the process nothing happens apart from the phone gets hot enough to cook your eggs for breakfast and eventually shuts itself down. As it's just a gimmick I never bothered to query this with Apple.

😄 ever been to a German sauna? You don’t look - it’s in your face, especially in the pool and rest area. Good question on number two. I guess I’m too conservative.

We seem to be the only country in the world that can’t make its mind up between imperial and metric
UK uses the 'best fit' system.
If we measure something and the best unit is inches, we use inches.
If the best-fit number is cm, then we use cm.
We buy a pint of beer and a pint of milk, not 0.56 litres.
But equally we buy Coke (etc) in 1.5 litre bottles, not 55.7 fl oz.
Same with weights: we pick what fits best. But not distances: we measure distances in miles.

What we won't do, compared to seemingly-masochistic Americans, is drag our ruler out to measure something and end up counting the 8ths or 16ths of an inch, when the mm scale on the same ruler gives us numbers that are easier to remember, divide and multiply.
