A newly discovered icon in iOS 12 appears to confirm recent rumors surrounding Apple's redesigned iPad Pro, which is expected to be unveiled on Tuesday.

Similar to a previous icon found in iOS 12 beta 5, the new icon discovered by 9to5Mac's Guilherme Rambo features a tablet with slimmer bezels and no Home button, and more importantly, no notch.

A recent case maker's rendering of the upcoming iPad Pro displayed many of the same design elements shown in the icon, including the rounded corners and a small top and bottom bezel, with the top bezel housing the TrueDepth camera system for Face ID.

Dimensions sourced from the same case maker indicate the smaller iPad Pro will be 7 inches wide and 9.7 inches tall, while the larger model will be 8.5 inches wide and 11 inches tall.

Icon elements aren't always proportional relative to the physical dimensions they represent, but the way the iPad Pro's bezels are drawn suggests Apple has also left plenty of room for holding the device without unintentionally triggering the touchscreen.

The new iPad Pro models are said to be equipped with an A12X Bionic processor that's even faster than the A12 chip in the new iPhone lineup, with a USB-C connector potentially replacing the Lightning port, and a new version of Face ID that works in both portrait and landscape orientation.

The new iPad Pro devices are expected to be announced at Apple's second fall 2018 event, set to be held on Tuesday, October 30 in New York City at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

Apple is planning to live stream the event on its website and through the Events app on the Apple TV, but for those unable to watch, MacRumors will have live coverage both here on MacRumors.com and on our MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

Update: In related news, 9to5Mac's Guilherme Rambo has tweeted that the rumored Apple Pencil 2, codenamed B332, will support gestures. A user will be able to change properties of the drawing stroke by sliding a finger along the sides of the pencil, for example, according to his tweet.

Tim Cook was right: they really did double down on secrecy if all we really know abot the product at this point is this.

They need to put some bezels on the iPad to help the grip. No home butto in OK, I love FaceID on my Xs and on the iPad I haven't used the Home Button, except for TouchID, for months. Swiping is so convenient.
Not sure I'll buy one though, my Air 2 is still great and I don't need the Pencil so I may wait for FaceID to trickle down to the cheaper models or buy a refurb iPad Pro next year at a lower price.

Based on that icon (which could be completely stylised for icon-related reasons), there's "no" notch because the entire bezel seems to be the same thickness as the iPhone's notch.

Isn't it going to be very hard to properly hold this new iPad with those small bezels?
I thought Apple already does something with software dead-zones on the sides of the current iPads, so it wouldn't be any different in this case

I would think it’s been handled a lot over last year within Apple. Doubt it would have made it to production if holding it was a problem, except for very large hands. Might have been code named “El Presidente Edition”.

Can’t wait to get look at it. My Air2 is looking a bit anxious. May be forced into retiring soon. :)

Same here. My Air 2 is going off to a farm, where there's lots of other Air 2s that it can play with and loads of open space for it to roam free.

My only worry is that they're gonna use this redesign as an opportunity to 'redesign' the price structure of it and hike it unreasonably like they did to the phones.

Face ID will be a nightmare in bed with that. I use my iPad most of the time landscape, and it's annoying to put the iPad portrait JUST to unlock it. Oh well, sticking with the current iPad Pro and will never upgrade (unless it gets really slow). Touch ID forever. <3

'Unless it gets slow'? This is an Apple product. Don't you mean 'In a couple of years when it gets too slow'.

The icons.....it’s always the icons! You would think they would place a dummy icon in there until they announce the product. Can’t double down my ass!

Dah........you joking right.
Alway expect Apple to help in reducing fat wallet syndrome.

Apple sorta like eating at airport. You might find better meal, but you won’t pay more.

Pretty obvious at this point. Looks great though from all the renders, hoping we can order right away as I already sold my 10.5.
Jump the gun much? :D
