The Loop reports that Apple and News Corp have issued invitations for a media event scheduled for Wednesday, February 2nd at 11:00 AM to introduce The Daily, a new tablet-focused news publication set to debut on the iPad.

According to the invitation, the event will be held at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and will feature Eddy Cue, Apple's longtime iTunes executive who currently holds the title of Vice President of Internet Services.

Apple has been claimed to have worked with News Corp to develop new functionality to support recurring billing via users' iTunes accounts for subscriptions to publications such as The Daily. The Daily is rumored to be priced at 99 cents per week after a free introductory period.

and a new ipad announcement!

:D

Hopefully you don't expect that to happen there.

I can honestly say I have never heard of Eddy Cue before. Hopefully he will tell us many interesting things about it though.

Picked him because it's part of their effort to get more faces out there. You know, show that Apple isn't just Steve Jobs. I can't wait to hear what he has to say.

Friend works at Apple and told me about how Eddy got Steve's ear back in the 90's when Steve just came back: they were having discussions about how to satisfy channel partners (i.e., BestBuy, etc) while Apple was losing money and Eddy said: "Fu*k the channels... we need to turn a profit" or something to that effect. Steve like what he heard, promoted Eddy and the rest is history (iTunes/iTMS is Eddy's baby).

Eddy is deservedly well positioned at Apple.

If you have to ask that, just keep watching and reading YOUR news.
The rest of us will find a greater scope of facts and evidence without the taint of government-media propaganda.

Wow, we don't live in the Soviet Union, nor Socialist Germany......how much propoganda do you think there is?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is The Daily and why is it so important?

Ignorance forgiven. The Daily is supposed to be NewsCorp's attempt at all-digital "newspaper." NYT and other traditional outlets have paper business/subscription model with large web presence. The Daily will be web only. as far as importance, I can't honestly say. There seem like a million and 10 news websites already. Time will tell if the Daily really is "important" in the long run.

Ho Hum Event Guys.

Cue is a pretty common face on the Campus.

All I can say about this event is that it's going to only be about 45min (like the verizon one) and the press will get there questions and then done.

It's not going to be a worthwhile event... The only thing that the daily is going to emphasize is the money aspect. Other News or Article developers on the App Store already provide content that's as on par with what the daily will show.

Anyway, more code to write...

There have to be early adopters of new mediums... I just wish it wasn’t News Corp; they sell emotion over facts and journalism to a sad and shocking extent. That’s just not integrity, and it’s not news. (They’re surely not the only ones... but what Fox News does stands apart in its sheer magnitude!)

Sooo, one would rather hear narrow-minded hypocritical right-wing propaganda? Not that they've ever let little things like, you know, facts, get in the way of their arguments. But hey, awesome, pay for an app that'll preach hate and lies, outsourcing good jobs, support the rich, etc.... it sounds fantastic!
