Why No Space Gold iPhone?

I love the gold look but I hate the white front, am I the only one that feels this way? To me the black front disappears when I watch video, the white doesn't.

2GB of RAM. Which is what Apple should have had as soon as they moved to 64bit to deal with the overhead.

It means that next year we'll have OS update features which will likely run poorly, or not at all, on our 1st gen, 1GB RAM 6 Plus.

Apple probably made an additional $5 in profit on each phone, we'll lose a lot more.

But, yeah, the phone works with the old OS, right? We shouldn't complain so much....

Upgrade Ready

Don't care what Kuo has predicted. Bottom line for me. Its time for an upgrade. My iPhone 5 feels slow and buggy. That said. Its going to be a huge (Plus) upgrade!

Now this looks like an iPhone upgrade I can stick with for a couple years at least. The only thing I would add that could make this better and still be feasible is an OLED display like the Apple Watch that turns off the black pixels. If they add a dark mode to the iPhone then you could really stretch your battery. Pair that with the A9 chip on the smaller process and you get even more battery savings. I have a hunch that this year Apple will not increase the speed of the A9 very much over the A8, but instead put that budget towards energy efficiency. I'm looking forward to switching back to a smaller iPhone from the 6 Plus and the only thing that I'll miss is the slightly sharper display (not a big deal) and the battery life (kind of a big deal). It's nice having a Plus so that I can tether my iPad and not worry about the drain.

As for the 4" model, I'm disappointed in Apple. I mean they did ditch the 3.5" model, but the newer versions are quite a substantial increase especially in width compared to previous models. The 4" only got a little taller but not wider. So Apple gets people hooked on iPhones and buying into their ecosystem and then stops selling them a size that they've become accustomed to. People who are smaller, with smaller hands, smaller pockets. Many women I know, including my wife, complain about this. It might only be 10% of the population but it still sucks that Apple pulls the rug out from under those people.

You might say "Sure, but nobody is forcing them to upgrade their phones." Well that might be true, but my wife's iPhone 5 is starting to have battery problems. If she stays on an older iOS version she won't get security updates, things won't sync properly with her other Apple devices, and many App Store apps will stop working or not connect to their APIs that change over time. I know that the sales numbers won't be as high as the larger phones, but I think they should at least offer a smaller model for those people who just can't use a bigger phone. Apple can certainly absorb the cost of a profit margin that might be slightly lower. Or even just charge the same amount as the bigger iPhone. Make people pay. It doesn't matter. This argument is very different than the argument of making a bigger iPhone for bigger people because the smaller people always had a smaller iPhone and invested into Apple's ecosystem. Bigger people could start with Android or something else. How pissed off would some of you be if Apple suddenly stopped making the 6 Plus? Especially if you're a big person who switched from Android and bought a bunch of Apple devices like the Apple Watch, iPad and MacBook to keep everything in sync? Apple needs to man-up and just deal with the complexity of having three different iPhone screen sizes in their product line. Although part of me is wondering if they will significantly reduce the bezel for the iPhone 7, therefore making the 4.7" model barely larger than the old 4" models. Otherwise they should at least offer a 4" size using previous generation components. At least!

"Way better than what is on the Android world". Heard of the Galaxy S6 or Note 4?

You mean the S6 with a few hardware issues!! (fast charge frying the accelerometer, WTH!!) And people complaining about memory, browser slow (despite 3G) and the Note, well just not up to snuff with the Iphone 6... Yeah, I heard of them. Yeah, I heard of them. What is your point?

Thank you for mentioning this. I thought I was the only one.
After I plug in the cable, I have to go lie down and rest otherwise the effort
wipes me out for the day.

BTW: That is nothing compared to pulling out the cable.

You can pull it out? My phone is clipped to the wall in my kitchen. I'm waiting for a coiled lightning cable but the Genius will need to visit my house to swap it out. Someday someone will invent a cordless phone.

New case with modified internals? Sounds like a complete new iPhone to me. I am going to guess the camera hump will be gone, especially if they are to use their new lens technology. Hopefully they do something about the bands too. So glad I am upgrade eligible this year.

This should've been the iPhone 6 to begin with. A flagship phone in 2014/2015 shouldn't have an insufficient 1GB DRAM that causes browser reloads and app closures.

If these predictions are true (and they sound realistic) then this will be a great spec bump, pretty much what I was hoping the original 6 would have been.

Here's hoping Apple changes the black colour up a bit.

I think this is a sweet colour concept, something like this would be perfect for my taste

These are just examples and concepts obviously, but something along those lines. My favourite colour combo of a phone to this day was the Black & Slate iPhone 5 - it was a shame though the colour wore off so easily and quickly. I also really dig the new black metal of the HTC One M9 phone, looks sweet.

I also loved the iPhone 4/4S black & silver combo design, it really looked slick on the back of the phone

Give me a gold iPhone with a black front with a gold ring #

White front for the rose gold.

They probably will do that, makes sense. 1 black phone and 2 white ones was always weird to me. 3 to 1 would be worse.

----------

I don't think that Apple will use Force Touch for a minor "S" Update, as it takes up more space, it probably requires more changes in the design.

S updates are not "minor". They're usually the ones with the big new must have features...

Siri and Touch ID off the top of my head..

Sales figures do not equal market research.
The important distinction here is between stated preferences and revealed preferences. Sales figures are evidence of revealed preferences, while market research is merely indicative of stated preferences i.e. which are often lies.

the 5.5" has outsold the 4" form factor since it came out with the most recent sales data (1Q15F) showing it has picked up the pace with the 6+ outselling the 4S/5C/5S by a hefty margin.
I don't believe this is true. Please cite evidence.

Yes, I actually think more people would chose the larger phone if all other specs were equal.
The iPhone 5S continues to sell reasonably well despite having far from equal specs, when compared against the iPhone 6 and 6 plus.

Or do some market research to see what the demand is. Which has been my point all along. No one truly knows what Apple deems a viable market--one that takes into account short term and long term goals, profit margins and their overall vision and mission, among other things. And it's also pretty safe to say that a 720 billion dollar enterprise has the resources and has done the research.

That's not what companies do. They do market research and you can bet that Apple invests millions into that activity.
Apple famously do not do market research. One can search the many Steve Jobs quotes about why Apple do not do market research.

I hope we will get software updates, because the hardware is not worth the upgrade. Top of my list is an improved Siri. Voice recognition and speech synthesis are great, but she needs to take initiatives, be personal, learn things and interact.

Be more like a friend.

For instance, If i say "I'm bored" or "I don't know what to do", she could suggest a game, i.e. guess the movie/actor and she could come with hints. She could read bed time stories for kids, or have books for adults. Perhaps teach me a new language. If ask her "How are you doing", she should initiate a conversation etc.

Sure it will take some time to develop, but Apple made $18 billion in profit last quarter. A few hundred million dollars on a personal Siri, and it would be very hard to switch to Android, it would be like leaving a friend.

#7 can't be accurate since plenty of Mac Rumors members said it's a non-issue.

My 2 cents

A lot of those upgrades sound like the 7 to me. Apple seem to be getting tighter and tighter (source: new Macbook), so I would only bank on:
1. A9 chip
2. Force touch
3. Gold colour option
Then... the 7 will be the fastest selling phone in history with new glass and new camera and more ram etc. etc.

As a society, haven't we pandered, and coddled, to the people that think less, enough?

If someone says something stupid or blatantly obvious, are we supposed to praise them or treat them as if they are equal?

Shouldn't we help give them a boost to think more critically and maybe, just maybe, they will articulate a thought before posting it on a public forum...

If someone calls me a bad name or makes a remark about something I've said, it makes me reflect on that. If it's warranted, I will adjust my behavior. If not, then I will change nothing.

**We should call people out, sometimes. If people don't want called out, then they should not speak or post. It's a risk we take online and in everyday life.

If you are offended, don't participate in this forum, or the cruel world in which we live.

When did constructive criticism become so evil and unused.

Manners cost nothing, and also have the added benefit of making a man (I know, a rarity these days). Calling someone a "DB" - (think HARD about what that actually means, it's disgusting), shows contempt for the person you are deriding, and more to the point, demonstrates that one is incapable of civility and humility when conducting a conversation with others. You know, it is entirely possible to rise above others, without stooping to pushing them under, and putting them down.

As much as you tie yourself into knots attempting to reason to the contrary, NO ONE is less deserving of kindness and respect than anyone else - NO ONE, and if you haven't the gumption and good grace to address them politely and with respect - EVEN IF RESTRAINED - you should refrain from human interaction, as you're only digging a hole for yourself, not for them.

** Yes, and treating you in the manner with which you wish to treat others, I'm calling YOU out.

Any facts to back that up? Seems like just an opinion.

Do you carry a TV around in your pocket?

Considering it just came out on the watch, yes.

It has been at 8 for a while, you don't think they're ever going to go any higher?

Yes. Sales figures show it.

Anyway you can just switch to android for your little screen needs

I thought every single iPhone had a sapphire lense.

Nope? I'm pretty sure they introduced it sometime around the 5s.

They used to use plain glass, which with the slightest scuff it would make your shots turn hazy. Happened throughout my first gen, 3G, 4 and 5 - you only have to google "iPhone lens scratch" to see the amount of people that it annoyed.

----------

I thought the 6 and 6 Plus had sapphire cover lenses?

They do, and I'm grateful for that because my 6 plus doesn't run into those issues anymore. I was referencing the previous gen models though that didn't support those materials (5, 4s, 4, 3Gs, 3G, 1st gen).
