I want to be excited about this…but afraid of the price increases. I truly think the Apple TV is the best streaming device out there, but I’m not sure they’re worth the cost after the summer.

A20 GPU is roughly 20 to 30 percent faster than A19 in many games and graphics and shows about 15 to 20 percent CPU gains. Tomorrow we will see the A21 which is expected to be another 10-20% jump in both GPU and CPU.

The A20 is tomorrow. ( iPhone 18 Pro )

The current iPhone 17 Pro has a A19 Pro SoC in it .

The Apple TV jumping to what was just in a IPhone Pro system would be a giant leap.

If Apple was serious about gaming, they would have released the new Apple TV ….

Apple makes orders of magnitude more money on iPhone gaming . A primarily gaming ‘first’ box probably is not. ( it isn’t going to compete with iPhone revenue numbers either ).

Just as easily Apple could support an external drive and perhaps do the same thing ( with 3rd party help). I doubt it though because of software DRM that required to run to run the disk Apple isn’t going to natively do.

Disks are shrinking in the Apple ecosystem.

I know the rumour says "no new design" but with the increase in RAM, this is going to have to be more expensive so they might as well bump up the enclosure material. Give it a Mac mini-like enclosure. Aluminum has better heat dissipation than plastic, and Apple is already making the remote out of aluminum on an accessory so it's already proven affordable enough.

It isn’t $300+ … it is a $199 box ( the base version’s current price ). You are about $100 off and trying to push the price higher when ~ $200 is already $50- 100+ higher than the alternatives.

This is awesome news and gives me hope that we will see Apple take advantage of AV1 decoding since it’s supported on the A19.

You do realize they will spend a large amount of time discussing OS27 and Apple Intelligence as well, right? They'll want to show its features on the new devices, so what better time to show new AppleTV and HomePods that will be able to access it? Let's hope!

My current ATV is 9 years old with the A10x chip and it is definitely showing its age. If it dies, no matter what they replace it with will be a huge upgrade. As for price, this one lasted 9 years so even if its $300 over time it doesn't cost much.

Hope they do a 120hz interface, they'd be stupid not to with this chip!

In addition to just being plain smoother, it also handles movie framerates way better (since 120/24 is a whole number of frames, but 60/24 isn't).

Tomorrow likely also has accessories that are somewhat coupled to the iPhone. AirPod and Watch updates also . ( technically should need an iPhone for those but often the most likely binding use case ) . Not sure how much time going to spend on selling Siri AI and Apple Intelligence in close to non beta status .

There should be another event if Apple is going to talk more about a more comprehensive ‘Hope Hub’ strategy where home hub devices like Apple TV and HomePods fit more into the center stage of that discussion .

Depends if want to be on stage with a too long show or spread things out. Apple should do the latter. Three product areas and ‘AI’ is a full show.
