It sounds like Apple is staying with its signature THIN theme for the new MBP. Instead of the old "Think Different" it's Think Thin.

There are no rumors of them using chiplets in MacBook pros.
Yup. Doesn’t even make sense. If they double the M1 performance cores and GPU the chip still wouldn’t be very big. Likely around 200mm/2 which Intel chips already are, and that’s not including the extra AMD GPU die which is about 120-220mm/2 itself.

Can’t help but think there’s way too much certainty that there will be a new m chip coming. People said the same about the iMacs..
Not people with common sense. The 24” iMac is an entry level machine. These MacBooks are higher end models above the entry level machines. Gurman is saying new chips for these, and he’s the most reliable.

So they want the 16" to be lighter than the current one...
Read the summary - they've reduced it from 8790mAh to 8693mAh. About 1%.... pretty insignificant in terms of weight loss and, in the more-likely-than-not scenario that an Apple Silicon machine will consume less power than Intel, will probably still give longer battery life.

“…battery life could still end up being longer than the current generation.”

My mind is blown. Linus already got > 20 hrs. out of the current gen MacBook pro in his weekend-long YT test. How long could it go???

Current generation is the models they’re replacing, the higher end 13” and 16” MacBook Pro.

how expensive do you guys think it'll be to get the 14" macbook pro with 16gb ram, 512gb ssd, 10 (2 + 8) core CPU, 16 core GPU, with miniLED. i really hope that this new macbook pro gen just replaces the old gen with no price increase, but i'm gonna have to suspect that this one may come at a premium of a product that already costs at a premium. if i can get this laptop for under 2k after tax, that would be amazing

Somewhere between $1999 and $2999

my friend says a non sense quote "I like the touchbar but I never use it" duhhh

I say "remove that thing! I hate it!"

So...do put my current MBP on craigslist now? or am I jumping the gun? 😁 Very excited to learn about these and hope this rumor is true.
Joe average consumer has no idea what is coming and will happily buy your 16" regardless. We are the minority, checking forums and following updates. I've had to stop so many family friends from buying butterfly Macbooks because they don't even know about that, let alone the newest shiny.

With your background, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the codenames floating around.

Jade C-Chop and Jade C-Die

Does this indicate that they are both the same die and are just binning? Or is it possibly designed in a way where they can physically chop a portion off that had extra cores (like a more extreme form of binning?)

I probably way over-thought this, but when i heard those names, I immediately started envisioning a chip where they could just chop off a block of GPU cores if one of them tested defective, or even two chips fabricated 180 degrees to each other sharing GPU cores... where if the CPU was bad, you give the GPU cores to the other CPU. If the GPU cores were bad, both CPUs ended up being "Chop" versions, and if everything worked, you pick one CPU to become the Chop, and the other becomes the Die. Again, probably over thought it from reading those names.

Or maybe they made the full "Die" design, removed cores at design time, and sent two physical layouts to TMSC to build and named the reduced core layout "Chop".

Really hoping there will be an 11th gen Intel option. Not sure why people are reacting poorly to my statement. Having choices is a good thing unless you’re the type that thinks we should still be using 3.5” iPhones lol

yes, but Apple wants to present them at the event...if not at WWDC....you think Apple will do another event next month or August ?!
Why not? I think we all are hopeful that Apple would show off some hardware, but the last WWDC showed some demonstrations when they announced their Apple Silicone but it was months later for models being released. We still know hardly anything about any of their next updates to all their OS platforms. MBP announcements haven’t really followed any predictable schedule. We know they are coming, but all these rumors are really speculative, not like based from Apple leaks anymore. I guess one could say Apple really believes in good security. ;)

So, how different do you think this laptop will be functionally wise from the current crop of M1 MacBooks or even Intel MacBooks running Big Sur?

Sure, under the hood performance for tasks like video editing and photography might be better. But is this a mass selling point? When I got my M1, I probably used the USB C ports a couple times to back and transfer files, which speaks to how much I don't miss standard USB A or other ports available on my 2015 such as HDMI, Thunderbolt, SD card reader.

The reason why I bring this up, I would think it would be better for Apple to push this out to coincide with the release of macOS 12, which might offer unique functionality to this new generation.
