That is unfortunately also my problem. I like the Apple TV - even the current version - but I have a cap at 10GB/month and additional 15GB would cost 15 EUR ($ 16.7).

If 15GB would cost an extra 15 EUR then you have a different problem, if Apple releases a streaming TV service I can see somewhere around 0% chance it will be anywhere except the US, ever.

Apple's fourth-generation Apple TV will be released in October with a starting price of $149 or $199, according to 9to5Mac. The report claims that Apple will also continue selling the third-generation Apple TV for $69 as an entry-level device, although the set-top box is not expected to have support for an App Store or Siri.

The report adds that Apple's much-rumored streaming TV service will be available "as soon as next year" through a software update for both the third-generation and fourth-generation Apple TV. The web-based TV service is expected to deliver a lightweight package of about 25 channels for around $40 per month.

The new Apple TV is rumored to feature a dual-core A8 processor, an App Store with a native SDK for developers, Siri voice control, HomeKit integration, a new user interface and a redesigned remote control with motion sensors, a touchpad on the top, physical buttons on the bottom and a microphone.

Apple is expected to announce the new Apple TV at its September 9th media event.

well that probably is pretty useless to anybody outside the U.S. as apart from you tube Netflix and maybe another few apps at most doesn't do anything for the UK and the rest of Europe. If Apple want to be serious players they need to think globally . WE DONT ALL LIVE IN THE USA APPLE gettin a bit fed of of Apple using Europe as a cash cow ,you guys in the U.S. would not pay the exchange rate Apple use when you paying half plus your full price this will sell for £149 -£199 and I ain't gonna spend that Tim for you tube etc unless you come out with a reasonable package and there's is no way you will compete with sky or Virgin on the TV front

Price point has me less concerned than what it can actually do. The second gen Apple TV is still the only one worth buying IMO. I dumped the third gen a purple months after buying one launch day realizing nothing was coming in terms of third party support (JB) and in glad I did. For now, everything I need is handled with an HTPC, a couple chrome cast devices, and the infuse iOS app which allows me to stream any content from the HTPC to any of the chrome devices (as well as watch or listen to anything from said HTPC on the it's device).

At this point, Apple will have to pull out all the stops and possibly show me functionality I didn't know I needed. I have a set up that is basically perfect for my needs and don't see myself really doing anything to it before there is a push for 4k, which I still see as being a few years down the road. I may not even jump that soon. The difference is nowhere near like it was going from SD to HD anyway.

Exactly. I expect pretty much any cable player that feels threatened by any 25 channels Apple would offer to bundle up the same 25 plus a few more popular ones that Apple didn't include and meet or beat the price. Unlike iOS vs Android or OS X vs. Windows, programming is programming... Apple's 25 won't be superior to the same 25 offered by even the likes of a Comcast.

And consider what DISH is doing right now: 190 channels for $50/month: http://www.dish.com/35th-anniversary-special-offer/ I've tried to look for the hook in that over and over now but I'm not seeing it. If there's not one, the proposition will be Apple's 25 channels for $40 vs. Comcast, etc 30 channels Apple's 25 channels plus several more popular ones) for $40 vs. Dish's 190 channels for $50.

Of course, only the channels selected by Apple will be the "good channels" and they will naturally look sharper via Apple's service than the same channels via Comcast, etc or Dish and similar.

Basically, when it comes to just the rumored TV streaming bundle, I just don't see how Apple wins this one... not while depending on the pipes owned by the very competitors from which they are attempting to take TV programming subscription revenues. But competition is good in all forms, so maybe the threat of Apple will motivate some competitors to better compete.

Now, consider the rest of the rumors and all that is very exciting. A new box with all kinds of potential. At long last, maybe we finally get an app store! At least the perception (now) of >hobby-level focus on this much neglected product opportunity. Etc. Personally, I'm very excited about this one in most every way... except the streaming service, unless there is something dazzling about it that doesn't make it basically a basic cable alternative.
For me, cutting the cord to save money was not the driving force. Simple hardware, no dvr, streaming seasons of shows, movies, and videos I like when I need them, one or two devices instead of three or more, etc. Will I save money at years end, most likely not. Look at it this way, quality vs quantity, and ease of use, works for me.

I never understood the spinning wheel criticism on ATV. I have to wait a few seconds (sometimes 2 seconds and sometimes up to 5 seconds) between each buffer command and it's annoying but I wouldn't describe it as "watching endlessly at 'spinning wheels'". In fact, it's about the same wait I have to endure when I change channels in FIOS. (My FIOS box gets cranky every few days so I have to reboot it and then it's fine. I should just probably have it reset every night while I sleep but I think I have it set wrong right now)

Are you sure you don't just need a simple factory reset to fix something? When I think of endless spinning wheels, I think of the beach ball in Mac OS X that freezes the computer for seconds or even minutes with no end in sight.
If you're still using a DVR and are ok with it, that's one thing. I had to get rid of the POS that the cable companies (I have been with many but am currently also on fios) because of how damn jaggy and terrible the units are.

For what the ATV is there really shouldn't be any lag at all IMO. Is that one fact a deal breaker? No. Everything else about it was, for me lol.

Starting price will be at least 200,- I still think it will be 279,- or something because in a year or two they have to cut the price tag a little bit to let us believe they are really trying to make their products less expensive.

Can anyone explain to me why I should buy this? It doesn't do anything a € 35,= Android stick can't do. I just want to watch Netflix, Youtube and Spotify, that's all. Vastly overpriced and I don't want to buy any Apple content (music, vids). Oh, I'm not an Android fan at all, MacBook Pro, iMacs and iPhones are the prevalent platform in my home.
I mostly agree with you I wouldn't pay £200 quid for this new one, I currently have the 3gen Apple TV I stream my movies use you tube Netflix though that's get toning elbowed this month I stream my IMac from upstairs to my Sony 50 inch TV set 5.1 surround sound with Apple music , yes tell me Apple why I want to buy this product ?

Funny that this whole thread is "too expensive" and "it can't do anything cheaper models can't do" without even knowing what it's worth or what it actually can do. Just save those comments in your drafts until you inevitably want to complain after the conference.

I think some of us just fail to see why we would want to spend in that range given the available options. Even with a cool controller or gaming - for some it's not "enough." In fact, much like smart watches (for me) less might be more.

The only time I ever see the wheel he was referencing is when I have internet problems, and maybe once in a while when I think the service provider is having server issues such as Netflix.

I think his situation is not the norm, it certainly is not for me.

As for cable company STB lag, there is not comparison. While I have a STB from Comcast, it has not been hooked up to a wall in a while. They are just horrible.

$40 a month? Jeez. I'll just get cable.

I've got Cable internet and HD DVR right now for $100 through the middle of 2017. I don't think I'm beating that anywhere.

90% of the people who say its expensive will run out and buy one. The iPhone is too expensive. The iPad is expensive. The Mac's are expensive. Yet ya'll buy them anyway. Why? Because its Apple and it just works. Most of the time.

I use my Apple TV almost every day. How is it useless? It's worth it just to stream your itunes library much less having the most stable of streaming services of any device.

hmm.. i didn't like streaming from itunes library because it had problems with format issues. But I had far less issues with Beamer App. Now I use VLC.. thank you VLC team for making the best video player of all times

Meh, I'll use the chromecast I have instead for $20. Apps allow me to use any streaming site I want and it works flawlessly. I can take it to a friend's house and put it in my pocket. Apple is WAY behind the curve on this one.

Many others feel the same. I probably won't initially get it because my current plan is wonderful.

The thing is, no one knows what we would get for the $40.

What if it is current programing on participating channels, with iTunes access to all past seasons of the show. That is worth $40 to me.

Better yet, what if $40 provided all past season of all the shows on the networks, not just current shows.

Example, The show Prison Break was cancelled a few years ago, but all the episode were available from iTunes with this $40 subscription from Apple.

I think that would be well worth the money.

because that wouldn't be coming out until end of 2016??
where is A9 we know is ready, will be in the iPhones next month. and possible an A9X in the iPads in October, which could also go in this apple tv, to make it have more graphics power for gaming

I know they won't, but I wish Amazon would put Amazon Prime on Apple TV. I gotta use my Smart TV app or Xbox One to watch certain shows on it.

OK I'm really excited now. This was the price point I was expecting. If this all (price, app store, gaming, future service from Apple) I'm going to get one as soon as I can.
