Probably YOU don't know what it means, so here it is:

stillborn |ˈstilˌbôrn|
adjective
(of an infant) born dead.
• figurative (of a proposal or plan) having failed to develop or succeed; unrealized : the proposed wealth tax was stillborn.

That's what Blu-Damn-Ray is: a technology that FAILED TO SUCCEED, period.

Statistical data please or what Bubba said. Put the bong down.

For those seeking more information, just search for a long post that I wrote here some months ago, dispelling ALL myths that some Blu-Damn-Ray fanboys continue to spread...mass streaming will come much before that ridiculously lobbied media format becomes "successful".

I'm still waiting for internet access beyond modems in my neighborhood.

And yet I can watch Blu-Ray already.

why would anyone want to watch a bluray on 24 inch screen? geez:rolleyes:

Why bother with anything than a screen with more than 720x480 pixels resolution for that matter than.

I'd love to see a blur ray drive.
Not so much for movie watching as for optical storage.
blu Ray data discs are a perfect way to archive movies we shoot and edit.
External drives are not good for long term archival storage.

Just buy a ps3 and stop complaining. In terms of video editing and burning your final product onto bluray? That's a joke. First, no serious video editor uses an iMac for HD content. Furthermore, who actually distributes video via disc anymore?

The reasons to include bluray on the iMac are slim to none for the average consumer. Stop trying to justify it.

Unless your 5.1 speakers are set up perfectly and you are sitting in the "sweet spot" you will not be getting a surround sound experience as it was intended. In fact quality stereo speakers with uncompressed audio is probably a better option.

Unless you are talking about Virtual Surround sound. 5.1 beats stereo any day!

I am running uncompressed audio from my PS3 and I have both stereo and 5.1 options available and switching back and forth between ST and 5.1 is a HUGE difference. Transformers is a good example where the fight scenes take place in front and behind scene. Hearing the bullets and blades wizz around you makes stereo silly.

Auto-calibration works very well to calibrate speakers too.

Apple will never support Blu-Ray. Why its so hard to understand?

That's weird, considering:

Blu-Ray Disc Association Board of Directors
The Blu-ray Disc Association website describes the role of the Board of Directors as follows:[3]
"Companies participating in the Board of Directors are active participants of the format creation and key BDA activities. They are selected from the Contributors by election. The board sets an overall strategy and approves key issues. A board member can participate in all activities and attend all meetings. The Blu-ray Disc Founder companies will make up the initial Board of Directors. Annual fee: $ 50,000"
The current 19 board members (as of June 2009) are:[4]
Apple Inc.Dell Inc.
Hewlett-Packard
Hitachi, Ltd.
Intel Corporation
LG Electronics (Lucky GoldStar)
Mitsubishi Electric
Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial)
Pioneer Corporation
Royal Philips Electronics
Samsung Electronics
Sharp Corporation
Sony Corporation
Sun Microsystems
TDK Corporation (Tokyo Denki Kagaku)
Thomson SA
20th Century Fox
Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group
Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc.

Expect Blu-Ray options soon. ... I just don't want to pay extra for it.

First, no serious video editor uses an iMac for HD content.

That's because there is no powerful quad core processor to back it!

Furthermore, who actually distributes video via disc anymore?

People who work in any of the numerous non-internet formats. Trade shows, kiosks, conventions, large public displays, etc.

The reasons to include bluray on the iMac are slim to none for the average consumer.

Agreed. As an option to add for a consumer, though, it would be pretty handy.

Stop trying to justify it.

OK, but only if you stop trying to tell other people what they do or do not need for their work. It sounds like you don't need it, so good for you.

Apple will never support Blu-Ray. Why its so hard to understand?

Source? Why do they bother to sit on Blu-rays Board of Directors then?

why would anyone want to watch a bluray on 24 inch screen? geez:rolleyes:

In 1999, people wondered why anyone would want to watch a movie on their computer let alone their 15” CRT desktop display. But we had DVD in our iMacs.

I would have to disagree. Music is still predominantly produced in stereo for this reason so I wouldn't say 5.1 beats stereo. Even if your 5.1 rig is set up perfectly, move out of the sweet spot and the 3D sound experience is destroyed.

In a film I would argue the experience comes from firstly the quality of the content of the film in terms of storyline, actors etc and the soundtrack. In the home theatre experience where people do not typically set speakers up correctly I would say a great pair of stereo speakers are a much better option with a great film.

Don't post such huge pictures!

I'm fed up of people saying 'o who cares about Blu-Ray' and someone says 'I care', I'm not going to go through all the threads and count aye's and nays, that is why we have polls enabled on this forum.
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/803438/

You're right. Why are we discussing Apple products 186 comments long in the Forum when we could just click Yes, Maybe, No...

Because discussing this makes the day go faster and is more entertaining than working

Care about the specs, not the optical drive. I shoot and edit video for a living, and if I need Blu-Ray, it's cheaper to use an external one. Even though some of my clients work on major tv channels, if showing them a standard dvd, and telling them, "This is blu-ray", they would say great. It looks good, but at this point isn't worth it. The price for blank discs are enormous. Still waiting for the Mac Pro to come down in price($2500 to start is rediculous), don't need another reason to drive up Mac prices.

Much needed:

- Apple miniTOWER. Quad core. Quiet.
- Matte displays.
- 500 g MacBook mini with video-out and USB2 ports. The MacBook Air is too heavy, too large and has only a USB2 port.

Exactly --- if there is not difference why have BluRay at the EXTRA cost which will be inevitable.

Ask the PC guys how much EXTRA they pay for BluRay. If it is worth it to you, it is worth it to you. In my case, my PS3 and HDTV take care of all my BluRay needs.

LOL you ppl need to stop following Apple so closely and open your eyes.

4x blueray drive for a PC is only $20 MORE than a DVDRW

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106325

is $20 going to break the bank in your case? probably not especially when your used to being ripped off by apple in the thousands.

a computer can be built for $800 that has a BD Burner, core i7 CPU and a gaming video card (ATi 4870 is no slouch), what do you people pay for your imacs? $1500+? (24") and you get a pos garbage onboard video card with a 3 year old core 2 duo.

oh BTW im not talking about Windows vs OSX, i use Ubuntu 64bit on my main machine.

The clamour for Quad Core is not coming from people who need it, but from people who just like to say, "Look what I've got".

Yes, I appreciate there will be power users who will make the most of a Quad Core iMac, but then again most "serious" power users go with a Mac Pro because the iMac is viewed as too "constrained" because of the fact it's an all in one and includes a display Pro's claim is insufficient.

My 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo I got in March is doing very nicely for Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Aperture, and Final Cut Pro thanks very much.

How much is BluRay option on PCs? I could not find it easily.

The readers are around $50-60. The combo drives (burns DVD/CD but only reads blu-ray) are around $100+. The blu-ray burners are around $200+.

The LG Super Blu (or whatever its called) BD-RE is now going for $199 at Best Buy. I picked one up there several months ago when it was $220. It is a good drive but the software bundle isn't so great. The copy of PowerDVD included does not support digital audio over SPDIF connections so I had to upgrade it to the most current version, which was at an additional cost.
