the guy was asking "Who buys these things?"
i said, ppl with more money than brains
sure i could of shortened it down to that but its not as fun.
Oh ok, so you're saying all mac buyers are morons, good to know

Watch what you say - you might offend the BD patrol here, and get chastised for not supporting the BD format, or revering it in the highest esteem, hence "the real thing." In other words, your preferences will be criticized and deemed irrelevant.
As much as I enjoy BD on my large LCD TV, I equally appreciate Eye TV and Tivo content in 720p, 1080i, on the iMac screen. Besides, the smaller file sizes allow for more content to be stored and enjoyed, all the while saving valuable HD space. To each one's own, in this arena - silly that we are looked down upon for having our own preferences.
on top of what? the "premium" market? ok fine, while you can go with another hardware manufacture and get EXACTLY what you want, i don't care how much you try and sell that magic beans of "tight integrated OS driven experience"
Well, consumer reports for one.....
You don't need to care. Those magic beans are somehow lining people up at the cash, ready to pay for Macs running OS X. That's why Apple isn't struggling and everyone else is.
I don't really care much about new "features". I wouldn't mind a new Apple mouse, though. The MM is really annoying at this point.
Blu Ray films look great on my big screen TV (I own a PS3). Thus I see no value in being able to watch them on a 24" screen. Blu Ray films are too expensive to buy anyway. Optical media is on its way out, and whether Apple adds it or not, I couldn't care less.
I barely even use DVDs/CDs at this point, either. It wouldn't even bother me if Apple left the optical drive out of the iMac and just gave (or even sold, for a reasonable price of like $40) an external optical drive.
The things I care about are speed, stability/reliability (in terms of hardware and software), and design.
I'd like to see more competitive prices, a faster processor, more ram, more storage, better video, all standard. I'd love a matte option and an LED backlit display.
My white 24" iMac from 2007 is working great still, but it's not as "snappy" as some of the newer machines.
titles can be had on amazon for 10-15$ for new releases and older titles. The excuse of cost is out the door

a little steep? you can buy 3 computers ALL faster and more powerful with larger HDD's than the cheapest imac for CHEAPER.
thats called a RIP OFF IMO, no amount of customer service can equate to that since CS only comes in when something breaks. and for how much your paying for that shiny plastic i would expect the absolute highest level of QC(you shouldn't even be able to get a defective mac for how much they are charging)
their lame 1yr warranty is also a joke, most Asus notebooks have a Global 2 yr warranty with a 1 yr accidental warranty attached (no additional charge)
Asus also has a free lifetime tech support where as Apple's is only 90 days,
what the hell kind of "exceptional" CS is that?
Also, no matter what APple puts out, there will always be the "Why didn't they put this in" people and the "you can get a ____ for way cheaper and it's faster too!".
The truth is I don't care about how good and inexpensive the hardware is if the software isn't there to back it up. I know, I can build a "hackintosh" - but I really can't because I just don't have time to do that. And it's way easier to just pay slightly more (if you can afford it) to Apple. The Apple OS is beautiful, and their software just works so much better than anything I've ever tried, and so I really don't care if the next iMac comes standard with a core i7 and 8 gb ram.
Not where I live they can't. For people in the US you are correct, to a certain extent.
A new movie - how many times will most people watch it? Just once. That being said, it makes much more sense to rent (on iTunes or from the movie store, whatever). This isn't the same as a "favourite song" that you'll listen to hundreds of times over the years.

You make some points, but can you explain what you mean by cut and paste? I think you already can paste files using cmd+c and cmd+v?

the thing is, core i7 was a significant architecture change. if you buy a new non-basic comp in todays market (wanting it to be fully capable for a couple years) i wouldnt want to buy anything other than i7 or equivalent, with a next-gen graphics card. nehalem is the result of about what, 2+ years of advances? at least? and itll be the processor to have for the next couple years. thats why its a big deal to me what the h/w is. i am eager to purchase a new mac but if im going to justify paying a premium it has to be a solid investment for the future. not just some nice software.
not what you said. I agree, and i Netflix the heck out of BD and buy the blockbuster titles. However, you can find a great selection of quality owning worthy titles for around 15$. please stop comparing the 720p stuff on iTunes as HD, it barely qualifies as HD.
In Windows I can control+x then control+v to cut and paste a file anywhere in explorer.
I don't see a need to replace my Late 2007 MacBook. Notebook hardware in general feels dead in the water until Nehalem/Westmere are both out on the mobile side. You make a good point - it doesn't make sense to buy outdated hardware even if you don't really care. That's why I never bothered upgrading my white iMac to a newer Alu one...the new ones just aren't that much better than the one I have. I'm hoping the next iteration will bring about more significant enhancements (in terms of speed, especially). I definitely will not be buying the next iMac if it's just a slight processor bump!
Xeon in an iMac... NEVER happen! Xeons are for the pro desktops!Xeon in the iMac doesn't make any sense at all. There are low power versions of Lynnfield under the L34xx line but that's absurd over Clarksfield. ECC RAM in the iMac is the new gimmick?
Dear Apple,
Stop designing and producing symmetrical mice. The human hand is not symmetrical. Microsoft builds a really good ergonomic mouse. May I suggest following their lead.

What about the lefties out there?
