Wouldn't freak too much. I don't think the Apple as sole reseller for 6 months is true. Even Apple has limited leeway to how much it can jerk retail partners around. So guessing BB will carry the iPad2 from launch day just as it carried the original iPad BUT remember BB had very limited supply of the original iPad. Just a hint though -- next time ask for cash. It's accepted everywhere, not just a single store. GCs are a rip.

yeah, but I usually finagle a 10 to 12 percent discount at Best Buy using their coupons, even on Apple products.

Please enlighten me. You are saying that the bigger battery in the iPad requires more "juice" (amperage?) than that provided by the agreed-upon Universal Charger Solution (UCS) just because it has a bigger battery. My imagination says that a bigger battery might take more time to charge but can still be charged via UCS... why is my imagination wrong?
Don't understand the ins and outs of "why?" but my iPhone car charger won't charge my iPad. So depending on the exact specs, failure is possible.

Do not believe they would stagger the international release by such a staggering amount, as others have said it would stagnate iPad 1 sales in countries not privy to the new machine on launch.

I'd buy an iPad 2 if it was released in Ireland A couple of weeks or maybe a month after US releases, but waiting till August ? Then I would just import yet again....

Me Too, I refused to buy the iPad without facetime. Had the original had cameras and facetime, I would have bought it.

I'm not playing apples games of buying product every year...or when its missing obvious features.

Mind if I call BULL on your statement?

Facetime was unheard-of when the first iPad came out, so that's no excuse. Yes, many people complained about the lack of cameras with the first one, but quite honestly without the concept of Facetime, cameras really weren't and aren't needed on a tablet.

Now there are some reasons to include cameras, but not necessarily for photographic purposes. With enhanced-reality applications coming out that offer instant translations of signs and text or data overlays on sightseeing tours or location-finding apps, the camera becomes a tool that shows you the right building when, for instance, you're trying to find a specific shop or restaurant. Of course, now everybody gets to look like a tourist.

I call fake. First clue... Apple would never wait 3 months to deploy in other countries and to third parties, 3 months is a quarter of the devices lifespan. Im thinking the iPad is coming in february. Anyone still remember the vacation blackouts for the 3-6? It's not the verizon iPhone as that comes out the 10th. I could be wrong on this but that's my idea.

Three months sounds like a lot, but what did they do with iPhone 4? I feel like some countries didn't get that until September... which would make this seem pretty accurate/likely. I could be off base though.

With the front facing camera, higher rez screen and if the usb port is true, this is shaping up to address all the reasons I didn't get one yet.

USB and front facing camera being the two biggies.

While it's a given they'll do a front facing camera, I'm not convinced usb ports are a sure thing. This is the one factor thats keeping me from deciding if a Android/Chrome or iPad 2 tablet is the way to go.

Time will tell....

I'd LOVE it if they announced a "pro" model that was a full blown OS X with full multitouch on top. But we all know that won't happen (yet).

Some countries didn't get it tell September. Apple didn't wait pushing the 4 off to third parties though. Launch day for the iPhone 4 I was in radioshack exchanging my 3GS for the it, didn't pay one penny for my 4.

Agreed.

A release in the UK 3 months after USA would kill iPad sales in the UK for 3 months. What would be the point of that?

I agree the reason for the 3 month delay last year was Apple wanted the feelers out on how the iPad would sell. Its not a secret that its a really popular device and has been a success. Expect a simultaneous launch in various selected countries come April or whenever. Ill be in line for it this time as I held of the first one. Bought the missus one for Xmas though and she absolutely thinks its brilliant. The proposed specs with USB and a slightly better display would make sense but as long as they bump the RAM and processor speed then it will no doubt sell like hotcakes.

So let me make sure I have this straight... you think that rather than going from 1,024 x 768 to 2,048 x 1,536 (the same resolution bump as the iPhone received) they'd go to a 4,096 x 3,072 panel? Really?

I believe you seriously miscalculated.

1024 x 768 totals 786,432 pixels.

Multiply that by 4x gives you 3.15Mpixels, which just happens to be the exact number that your 2048 x 1536 resolution totals.

Makes sense. Apple wants your tax refund money.

I held off on iPad 1, but I'll be up early getting my iPad 2 on launch day.

why would anyone get anything on launch day is beyond me. actually, go ahead. i need someone to work out the bugs for me before i purchase the finished product. thank, you, early adopter. you are my qc.

The April release sure, it is also in line with their typical one year cycle.

But delaying international is just asking for reseller stunts. I can't see Apple being that stupid.

Yeah, thanks for the snark, now go and read what he wrote again:

It's presented here as two seperate options with going for a 4x option not being good enough and instead quadrupling the pixels being the prefered solution. Now yes, the two mean the same (hence my confusion) but as it's being presented as two seperate solutions the only logical interpretation of quadruple is quadruple the width and quadruple the height, hence the 4,096 question.

Clear now?
No, because 4x is quadruple. It appears he was less clear in his concept.

I think they'll include a camera for two reasons:
1) They have to "keep up with the Jones'"

Yeah cause Apple is all about keeping up. That's why we have blu-ray in all our macs. Oh wait . . .

There is one flaw I see in this (more than one actually);

a) they won't announce the new iPad before release, because then the sales of the current model will come to a haul with everyone 'holding out'.

Not really an issue. They halt production on the current models well in advance and the stores sell out/down right around the time the announcement is made. They do it all the time with their products. Whatever little bit is left gets marked down and still sells or gets shipped back and they reuse parts in new ones if possible

Well I think Apple's use of the word "Retina" was a marketing move, to also communicate that it is not humanly possible to discern the individual pixels at that ppi (given a certain distance from the iPhone, etc).

If the iPhone is 326 ppi, and the iPad 2 is going to be "retina" but not as much as the iPhone, does that mean that it would only be up to 26 ppi less of density?

"I can see the pixels on a retina display" could become the new "I can hear the difference between lossless and iTunes AAC tracks." ;)

I don't understand some of you that question the value of a rear facing camera. Cell phones and Blackberries have had rear facing cameras for years. I use my BB rear camera regularly to take a photo of a whiteboard, magazine article, recipe, etc. Although not as portable as a cell phone, I still see the rear camera on an iPad being used more than the Facetime (front facing) camera. Really, how often will the average iPad user use Facetime?

More BS from the no nothing crowd!

Take a look at your AC adaptors for the iPhone and iPad. The iPhone's adaptor only offers about 200mA of charging power--that's 2/10ths of an amp of current. The iPad's adaptor offers a full 1 Amp to charge a much larger battery pack. Even when the iPad is turned off, the iPhone charger will take five times longer to charge the iPad than an iPad charger.

That's about the simplest way I can put it.

Saturdays are not Apple's traditional day for releasing new products or upgrades to older products. They seem to prefer Tuesdays for that purpose.

They have been changing it up. Saturdays are good for things that could have big lines. No worries about cutting work or school. Thursdays are coming up a lot also, such as the Verizon release.

Tuesdays, and now more often Wednesdays, are vogue for announcements and 'already shipping to stores' type products.

The question is this: Which would you hold up to take a picture of something, a small Blackberry/cell phone-sized device, or something almost as big as a file folder? Personally, I'd expect to see Facetime used more on an iPad than on a smaller device.

Got the 16Gig with WiFi and 3G. Kids won't let me play with it. Maybe I'll get a new second gen and keep it at work.....
