I don't know the exact details of the specs between iPad2 and the new iPad. But, aren't those batteries the same size? Yet Apple managed to create a much superior battery in the later device?

Won't they just do the same for their next iPhone?

isnt the iPad battery 40% bigger? thats why its also heavier

A lot of people say "Well no one liked the iPhone 4 design, when it was leaked".

Thats not true. I really liked it from the beginning because it was so simple and clean.

This one however, just really screams "**** design to me".

Im sorry, but I really hate the two back tone. I was really hoping for something different than a revamped iphone 4 design.

I could have lived with it, if ALL of the back was metal. But those two stupid little bars...

I have always bought an iphone (and mac products of course) because I was a true believer that they were the best on the smartphone market. If this iphone is legit than I feel like Apple has slowed down in progress.

I dont need a design change, if the design is great. I dont mind if the overall iPad design wont change for another 5 years or so (except maybe making it thinner and lighter) - it is great.

I own an iPhone 4s and while it is great - it is still far from perfect. My 3GS was WAY more comfortable to hold. To me the 4s doesnt fit very well in the hand. And yes - the build quality is top notch. But that alone doesnt make the design perfect.

I think the mods have to start setting some standards here. These forums are becoming utterly purile. Every other post is some idiot going on about what Jobs would or wouldn't do or whinging about all and sundry.

A good forum needs to stay on topic! That's why it seems like there are almost no worthwhile posts here anymore. People with something worth saying are hesitant to get involved among the trolls and the moaners and the idiots.

Come on, admins! Don't let these forums go the way of Engadget and all those other places where decent discussion goes to die.

Like this one. I can't tell if this guys trolling or just an idiot. When you can't tell anymore then it's almost too late!

I think the main problem is that posters believe 

A. Reads these post
B. Cares what we think

People,  tells us what we want. This is the one thing that I am scared of about Steve's death. Is that they will start listening to the consumer and stop looking ahead. This is just an honest statement not a whining and complaining post. If you don't like the phone buy one you do like. When their numbers are low they will say, "crap, we screwed that one up." If you complain but still buy, they think they made what you want/need.

In regards to screen size and power consumption:

Under the assumption that a new Sharp IGZO display with 30-40% power reduction (let's assume 30 to be conservative), some basic math here...

1136x640 is the rumoured new resolution. That's 727,040 pixels.

940x640 is the current resolution. That's 614,400 pixels.

That means the new screen drives 18% more pixels than the previous 4S.

Pixels are the same size (as the rumour has it), so there should be no additional power loss from enlarging pixels, etc.
Factor in a 30 percent consumption reduction (to be conservative) - this brings you to an estimated 0.83x battery consumption relative to the current 4S, on a (presumably) better, larger, thinner screen.

For a touch screen phone with a battery 2.7% larger in capacity, a re-engineered (presumably) tried and tested SoC, the GOBI chip - I could see this being quite significant in additional battery capacity.

People over-estimate the extent to which Jobs ran Apple as a one man band. He built a company in his own image and took on people who believe what he believed. There's no reason to think that just because Jobs is gone the culture will change over night.

Everyone always overstates the importance of the CEO, especially when that CEO is someone so iconic. But Jobs was never the only great person at Apple. Look at this list of people: http://www.apple.com/pr/bios/

Everyone of them plus many more less high profile, up and coming talents, has been a part of the success that Apple has had over the last couple of decades. It was never all Jobs and it never could have been. Jobs didn't even want to make a tablet. He didn't want to have the App Store. Jobs was a great man but he was still only one guy.

And efficiency..
The savings by having in-cell capacitor screen and refining when and how and how much battery is consumed are what matters to get the most from a battery.
It seems the trend is continuing. If the 3G/4G chipset power consumption is lower then the same battery life can be expected.
Major builds always add new features... this time it's NFC, Quad core... user experience.. Maps, Coupons...

If the best innovation and patent that Samstunk can come up with is a phone that emits perfume... then there's nothing to fear ;)
:apple:

Samstunk? Really? You're going to be bashing the company that essentially makes all the internals of the iPhone like that? If you hate the company so much, buy an LG.

Bitch and moan all you like AFTER they announce the phone and that really is the ONLY new feature. But until then, is it too much to ask you and the other 5 year olds around here to chill and stop acting so entitled for a phone that doesn't even exist yet?

What is it with all you hall monitor types? From past history, these types of part leaks prove to be legit, so everyone is commenting on them. Stop getting your underoos in a twist. No one appointed you protector and guardian of Apple's sacred can of magic unicorn dust. You're like little girls with the "how can you even talk about something that hasn't been released yet?" If you don't like what goes on in a iPhone rumor forum then take your ball and go home.

Samstunk? What are you 5 years old?

could this just be an updated battery for the 4S? because they will continue to sell the 4S with the newer iPhone

The 4S has horribel battery life. Surely Apple must have noted and improved upon experience. I think people are worried over nothing.

I would have preferred the kept it the same thickness and increased the battery size.

Exactly! I couldn't give a crap how thin the phone is just give me more power!!!

I hope Mophie is prepared with a juice pack pro once this new design releases, I'll be ready to buy.

aight apple, i don't care about how you change the phone's design, but if the next iPhone's battery is gonna suck more than my current 4S (which, is also horrible), then I will look for other phones.

No you wont.

Don't write it off just yet.
I'm sure the design will grow on you once you see it in person. Just because you initially liked the iphone 4 leaks and hate the new iPhone leaks doesn't necessarily equate to your current impression being any more true.

Plus the band around the phone is beveled at an angle at the edges and meets flush with the top and bottom of the Phone surface. That with the added thinness should provide a much improved feel in your hands.

My point is to wait till you see the product in person. Hopefully, you'll be pleasantly surprised :)

iPhone rumors much ? were tired of the iPhone rumors it's quite annoying. WHERE ARE THE IMACS we know nothing about those can shed some light on that

This must be some kind of a joke. Tim Cook "We're going to double down on secrecy". Yet, we're seing iPhone parts left and right here. I don't think it was ever this "bad" ;)

Something worth noting on this is what some articles spoke about on the release of the iPad 3; how apple made a denser battery. Then the marginal size increase means quite a bit since that's all the iPad 3 had was a marginal increase in size but a near doubling in battery capacity. Here's one of the articles mentioning this: http://www.cultofmac.com/151648/apples-amazing-new-ipad-battery-tech-could-lead-to-all-day-macbooks-and-lte-iphones/

With every leak my decision to jump this sinking ship looks better and better. Galaxy S3 FTW! LOL @ the impending Apple Fail. At least the iPad doesnt suck.

L T E

The only think I need to know.

Means f all outside the states just yet. There is lte here in poland but its on different frquencies so i cant access it on my ipad. Facepalm

----------

On That note, do the new gobi chips cover more lte frequencies???

So the phone is actually larger (taller) with a bigger screen, but the battery isn't even increasing in capacity? I hate to say it, but this upgrade is looking like a turd. Even if they do have lower powered components (which I doubt because of LTE), it still doesn't seem like you'd get as good of battery life as the 4S, which was already worse than the 4. :(

Hopefully I'm wrong.

If Apple is going to make the new iPhone 4G LTE compatible, then they should emphasis with the cooling of the phone. I have a 4G LTE phone and it gets hot very quickly especially being used under Hong Kong's climate. This make me believe in the rumored aluminum unibody design.

For the battery life, I am not sure. I have replaced the battery in my S2 LTE (same as Skyrocket in the US) with a 2030 mAh one and it can barely idle for 3 days:mad:. 1450mAh is impossible for any high-end Android phones, for an iPhone that run 4G LTE I also think it is barely enough for one day use.
