Some of these comments about 'beating' Android, 'winning/losing' against Samsung are pathetic. This isn't a war. Apple go on their own way and are not in the business of making changes based on the trends of other competition.

uhm no. is that why they increased the size of the phone? when steve always said 3.5 was perfect...
also this is war for smart phone companies. everyone is trying to be a step ahead.

I assume mainly costs. If you've invested in a good pair of in-ear headphones already, and they sound great, why get a new pair? What do you think... us Apple people are made of money?? ;)

It was for exactly that reason I bought these. And quite the marvel they are too!

I charge my device in a dock. I wouldn't be able to connect headphones while doing this.
You will need to buy a new dock anyway, just make sure that it has a headphone jack. Most current docks do have 3.5mm jacks I think - the two Apple Universal Docks we have certainly do.

I imagine that this is exactly what Jony and the boys do to let off steam in the secret Apple design lab.

*phone rings*
Chef Jony: Shhh! Shhhhh! .... 'ellllooo?
Tim: Jony.
Jony: Yes?
Tim: I've just been on MacRumors.com. The fans really don't like your design for the new iPhone.
Jony: NOOOOOO!!!!!!

:D:D:D

Earlier this year, Tim Cook made it clear Apple would jump through hoops to make sure things aren't leaking the way they are nowadays...

Now we have a full iPhone 5. Am I crazy to say these are Apple leaks, but of a fake iPhone 5? I think Apple is manufacturing fake parts and leaking them to confuse the public.

I don't think the new iPhone is going to look like this. It doesn't make sense to me. The S3 looks nicer to be honest..

When has Apple released a phone that isn't instantly the best phone on the market in almost every way? My two cents.

I feel the same way. Never has there been this many leaks. Insanity!!

another possibility es that those internals are from the next iPod touch development prototype , that leaves all us at the begining, with no idea on the final look of the next iPhone.

Why are so many saying this is the design? This is all based on rumor and speculation nothing more.

  • It's almost a certainty that the new phone will have a bigger (hopefully not just longer) screen
  • Will look different (hopefully not that shocking two-tone *****)
  • Will have a faster processer, and more RAM
  • A new dock connector

The rest we'll have to wait until September 12 for the announcement.

But yet your list is all based on rumor and speculation as well. How can you say (with a straight face) it is almost a certainty to all of the above, but yet the multiple (similar) parts leaks are based on rumor and speculation.

I'll say it again: If you can't come to grips with the design, buy an S3. Or an older iPhone. Or any other phone.

I agree: You don't understand.

Care to explain it to me instead of getting an attitude?

Has anyone been happy with ANY of the iPhone designs? Have any of them been GOOD looking? The original had that horrible black strip at the bottom and the mirror ring thing that served no purpose. 3G/3GS had the same ugly mirror ring and cheap feeling plastic encasing. 4/4S has too many lines and sharp edges.

None of these compare to even...the iPod touch which has a solid metal back on the account of no need for antenna and no mirror ring crap, or any of the macbook line that has the solid aluminum casing and sleep tapered edges.

So, if we're setting apple's other products as a standard, I don't think many people would say that the iPhone ranks among them.

What's your opinion on this?

At this rate, the rumor sites will have a fully operational iPhone 5 before the announcement.

EDIT:

Fans? No fans. No phone has fans. Ever. Think of the battery consumption, noise, vibrations, inefficiency. The metal back is all the iPhone 5 will need for heat dissipation.

Plus, we're probably getting the A5X, following the past trends. If you think the iPhone 5 will have fans, you couldn't know anything about the next Apple chip.

Wow! Sarcasm is lost on you.

Just heard something interesting today. I have a friend who recently went to Singapore, and he told me, a chinese fellow showed him briefly an iPhone 5 and the guy told him it's one of the first production models, and he got it from some other guy working in a chinese factory.

And my friend told me the back of the iphone resembles iPad and a bit like the 1st generation iPhone, so the backside wont' be smooth like 4/4S but a bit round like iPad and the previous iPhones.

Now this is just as believable as the rumours here, and I just wanted to share it with you because I found his story interesting since I was talking to him about the new iPhone and then he shared his opinion on the looks.

May or may not be true, but certainly made me really eager to find out what Apple will present after all this speculation.

Odd

And that sounds different from the images we've seen. It may have been an android os phone with an iphone like shell or a prototype or possible none of the above. Strange.

Maybe its me, but the new iPhone doesn't look THAT thin to me compared to the 4S. They were talking like the new iPhone would be 7.6MM

Interesting in that this doesn't look any thinner than 4S. But previous leaks have said it's up to a third thinner.

Not that much thin compare to what? To the iPhone 4s with no front glass on it? If this is indeed the next gen of iPhone, then it looks obviously thinner.

:eek: OMG! Someone, quick, tell Apple!!!:apple::apple:

Instead of hiring Tim Cook, they should have hired this guy! He **KNOWS** what Steve would approve! Get him to Cupertino, pronto!:eek:

:confused::p:D

Honestly, that new iPhone, I hope to see some major design differences, and not just a thinner and longer one...

One thing that I'm sure if Jobs was alive, he wouldn't approve, the amount of holes for speaker and mic, it's different, asymmetric and it looks a non-apple product... we are missing Jobs perfectionism.

Those Microdock screw holes u keep referring to are not for the dock, but to keep the display assembly down. You would unscrew those to take the top off. Just like how you would unscrew them on the current phone to take the back off to get inside the phone.

My personal theory is that all those parts are Actually Internals of the New iPhone or one of its development prototypes.

But obviously, at least the Body Is not the one on the new iPhone:

Reasons:

1- Ugly
2- Primitive Manufacturing process (but good for a short run, low volume engineering batch).
3- Poor Antenna reception for LTE, GPS and Cellular (remember the original iPhone antenna gate)
4- Colored Micro-Dock must be Unnecessary on such Deep Holes.
5- Why screw holes around the Microdock: ? if the Microdock Part has to be attached to the back why these holes?

Given that many parts attaches to the back, we could wait an iPad2-Like design, which implies some "windows" to place the Antennas (similar in size to the ones on the iPad, so having about 1/3 of the back of the new iPhone covered by one or two "windows" one of such will have the new 13MP camera), maybe done on aluminum, ceramic or liquid metal with some laser finishing.

The Screen, sure will be the one cited, but an production iPhone also could include Curved Glass, a non circular home button with gesture sensor (and maybe a 2nd micro screen on it similar to the one on Art Lebedev's keyboards).

To date Apple didn't disappointed us, and everybody at Cupertino is confident about the shock of the new iPhone.

IIRC, they also go through the mounting holes on the dock. So they serve 2 purposes.
