My personal theory is that all those parts are Actually Internals of the New iPhone or one of its development prototypes.

But obviously, at least the Body Is not the one on the new iPhone:

Reasons:

1- Ugly
2- Primitive Manufacturing process (but good for a short run, low volume engineering batch).
3- Poor Antenna reception for LTE, GPS and Cellular (remember the original iPhone antenna gate)
4- Colored Micro-Dock must be Unnecessary on such Deep Holes.
5- Why screw holes around the Microdock: ? if the Microdock Part has to be attached to the back why these holes?

Given that many parts attaches to the back, we could wait an iPad2-Like design, which implies some "windows" to place the Antennas (similar in size to the ones on the iPad, so having about 1/3 of the back of the new iPhone covered by one or two "windows" one of such will have the new 13MP camera), maybe done on aluminum, ceramic or liquid metal with some laser finishing.

The Screen, sure will be the one cited, but an production iPhone also could include Curved Glass, a non circular home button with gesture sensor (and maybe a 2nd micro screen on it similar to the one on Art Lebedev's keyboards).

To date Apple didn't disappointed us, and everybody at Cupertino is confident about the shock of the new iPhone.

speaker quality

Can anyone tell if speakers are same? i.e. same garbage as current phone?

Holes in case are bigger, that's that's promising...

Instead of talking about symmetry, why doesn't someone pick up on the fact that the tool tracks on this are remarkably different to those of previous leaks? This is not the same unibody shell - for that reason, I smell a rat...

Clearly Fake

That is some of the crappiest machining I have ever seen.

The CNC machines used to mass produce the iPhone and other unibody enclosures leave nearly perfect, completely uniform tool marks. For example see the inside of the first gen iPad (yes they have been bead blasted, but still).

http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/iW6kEFakxRVGnFoD.medium

Also Apple doesn't use threaded inserts pressed into the bosses for screws (the splined black metal circles inside the raised portions on the inside of the rear of the case). They thread the aluminum directly (it's cheaper). For example see how it is done on a 2012 unibody MacBook Pro.

http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/xrCrvSTKrrWmnI6f.huge

There is the possiblity that they were forced to use a harder steel pressed insert for the threads as the thread depth was too shallow for the aluminum, but my gut instincts tell me those threads are deep enough.

I've seen better machining by freshmen engineering students who have never machined anything ever. This is clearly a publicity stunt for the company watermarking the images.

Call me crazy, but you are about the 5,364th person to post this same exact thing. If you can't come to grips with the new design, go buy the S3. Problem solved.

Why are so many saying this is the design? This is all based on rumor and speculation nothing more.

  • It's almost a certainty that the new phone will have a bigger (hopefully not just longer) screen
  • Will look different (hopefully not that shocking two-tone *****)
  • Will have a faster processer, and more RAM
  • A new dock connector

The rest we'll have to wait until September 12 for the announcement.

except for the black splined insert at the top of your picture...

and the iPad is machined and annodized aluminum not stainless steel (which this case may or may not be) that is harder to machine and cut threads into.

Makes perfect sense to me. When I listen to music, I put my phone in my pocket. With the headphone jack on the bottom, I don't have to pull the phone all the way out and reverse orientation to change the sound, volume, etc. And there are thousands of others who agree.

Besides, would you really not buy a phone just because they moved the jack to the bottom and you prefer it on the top??

This. Thank you.

The jack on top just doesn't make sense.

----------

Its better to be on the bottom. When you holding normally the device if its on the top the cable is messing with your hands, go infront of the screen, etc. When its on the bottom you dont have that problem. When you have the device in your pocket it is upside down with the phone jack rdy to connect with the headphones cable. When you pull it off you dont have to turn it around.

and this.

I'll be the 3,365th person to say I hate the design direction Apple took.

Compare the current 4/4S with an iPod Touch and you will begin to see how tall(and slightly awkward) it looks. Apple really changed the game when they introduced the iPhone but this new version is just a poor attempt to catch up to the beautiful Android and Windows Phone devices out there.

This is one of the most perceptive and astute comments I've seen of late.

The outer shell is most likely (and hopefully) not what the rumors have shown.

I personally still believe that a company who made a big deal of the inside of it's macbook uni-body's look and design that the iphone would look like a college's industrial design course's prototype. The speaker holes are crooked and the awful machine etchings are simply not apple.

Where's the dude claiming all this is fake, just a Tim Cook Leak Special designed to throw us off the scent?

Goddamn it.

The magic is gone. To be honest, I miss the secrecy. I miss the suspenseful keynote events and the promise of magical tech being unveiled via manilla envelope, pocket or rising platform.

I miss Steve Jobs... :apple:

With that said, I'm getting this phone for sure. I gave my iPhone 4 to my GF because I was tired of the OS. Since then I've owned a BlackBerry 9900 and Google Nexus S. Without going into detail that you've already read, I'm ready to go back now. Seems as though the grass isn't as green as they said.

Sadly, it would be the head fake of all time if you had this many parts leaks all of which coincidentally just fit together.

As I was hoping for a slightly wider 4.3 to 4.7 screen, this makes me sad. But I believe this is the iPhone 5.......

Samsung Galaxy III

Got sick of waiting and got a Samsung Galaxy III and LOVE it. I doubt I will ever go back to an Iphone again.

So why does the new connector need the front securing holes? The top down picture clearly shows that the connector is secured to the body. Maybe the holes are to be used for the magsafe option, or it's just a fake pic - hmmmm
I think the screws on the bottom next to the dock are for fixing the back of the phone into place and not part of the dock connector structural fixing. Hence why we don't see a thread on the dock connector.

I suspect when the back is leaked tomorrow :D we will see two thread holes on it.

This is true... If you look at earlier pics there is a black sub-frame that fits inside of this shell. Since this is missing the silver boarder around the headphone and dock port, I can only assume the black sub-frame is used to hold the chrome accents, glossy patches on the back, and the wire mesh for the speaker and microphone. Its also possible that this black sub-frame also contains the antina for wifi/bt,nfc, and cellular and somehow connects to the logic board.

This is just my wild guess though. We will only know for certain at the event. XD

Messy Machining!

Is it just me, or does the machining inside the new case look a bit messier than you'd normally expect from Apple. Remember the pride they showed with the new MBP case. SJ passing a shell around the keynote audience and the video of one being built, and all the talk of the bits you can't see being as important as the bits you can?

As long as I can watch my Swedish Chef, I'll be happy.

I imagine that this is exactly what Jony and the boys do to let off steam in the secret Apple design lab.

*phone rings*
Chef Jony: Shhh! Shhhhh! .... 'ellllooo?
Tim: Jony.
Jony: Yes?
Tim: I've just been on MacRumors.com. The fans really don't like your design for the new iPhone.
Jony: NOOOOOO!!!!!!
