If this is really the new iPhone 5/6 then doe sit not make a total mockery o fhte so called security talk we had?

I'v never in my life before seen so much information, parts, specs, cases, etc etc etc from any electronics product, apart from those companies who actually want to give you full open step by step news of the "build in progress"

It almost is going to make the launch a non-event at this rate.
the only thing we're not going to know is amount of memory and speed. apart from that we pretty much seem to know it all.

unless it's all fake?

Btw, a bit of topic, but since there is much more traffic here. This new wifi+3g feature in beta 4, how is that different från the way it worked before, running on wifi once it has signal and then switching to 3G?

This already work, right? I don't get that.

it will trigger your 3g data when the wifi you are connected to is not supplying you a internet connection.

for example, every time i go to home depot, i look at my phone and im automatically connected to some kind of wifi, but there is no internet on it.

so i can not send messages in imessage or use safari unless i go into my settings and turn off wifi.

this should fix that problem and automatically switch me to 3g

Wow, that's a real achievement. You may want to check the dimensions of Samsung phones with 3.2" screens. They are probably smaller than that (and, of course, Apple should be embarrassed because of that).

Challenge accepted.

Samsung Galaxy Y with a 3.0 inches screen:
- Dimension: 104 x 58 x 11.5 mm
- Volume: 69386 mm ^3

Apple iPhone 4 (not the new one, which will likely have a smaller volume)
- Dimension: 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm
- Volume: 62782 mm ^3

69386 vs. 62782, which is bigger?

If this is true then it is confirmed that Cook is a new Sculley. A complete out of touch incompetent.

exhibit a:
"We will double down on security, I mean it"

exhibit b:

The new "iPhone" that looks like **** and is only taller but not wider  When surfing on the damn thing, I lack more space on the sides, and do not want to flip it to the side.

I just ordered the max spec mbp retina, but if this all comes true, it was my last product I bought from Apple in a very long time.

I knew this was going to happen as soon as I heard about Steve passing away, and I was hoping to be proven wrong!

R.I.P :apple:

People really should appreciate how hard it is to make a really small and really powerful device that works, has decent battery life and doesn't overheat when used. When you're talking about a smartphone it gets even more complicated because you've got the issues of antenna design to deal with.

I'm looking forward to this new iPhone. I'll have a fast, powerful and really compact handset with a four inch screen. That's quite an achievement.

Apple has to have something up their sleeve. There's gotta be some reason for this "taller iPhone", other than one handed use and more icons per page. Just have to wait and see

7.6 mm? I wanted 7.5, and if Apple wants to compete in the market they would have to make it no more then 7.4mm.

(Screen Size Sarcasm)

To each their own, but when my head is tied to my iPhone, I don’t want it docked to anything.

Meanwhile, a phone naturally goes into a pocket head-first. Currently, that means the headphone cable bears the weight of the phone!
Does anybody really put any audio-playing device into a pocket with the headphone cable being bent like this? Pretty much everybody will instinctively put their device into their pocket such that the headphone cable is facing towards the pocket opening.

Plus, I hate holding up my phone and having useless cable looping up and draping down, wasting inches of cord. The cord is connected to me, so it should come out of a jack that points toward me, not away!
Look at all portable audio-playing devices, heck even just at all from Apple, the vast majority has the headphone jack at the top. Obviously, this must be the better position, why else would it have persisted that long on so many devices. I'am pretty sure, that Apple put the headphone jack only at the bottom because it helped with arranging of the internal parts.

And whenever you hold such a small device like an iPhone in your hand, you are much more likely to cover a part of the bottom of device than part of the top with your hand. Thus, the likelihood that your hand collides with the headphone is much higher with the headphone jack at the bottom than with it at the top.

Is anybody else as underwhelmed as I am about the iPhone 5 getting thinner?? I truly don't want it any thinner than the current 4/4S or it will be extremely awkward to hold

Maybe by itself it will be...but how many honestly have any Iphone outside of some type of case? Thats going to make some difference.

I'd say I see probably about as many iPhones inside a case as I see without a case. Mine doesn't have a case, never had, neither had my iPods, nor my prior cell phones. Apart from a non-lethal crack in my 1994 Nokia, never did any of them suffered any damage due to me dropping them (and I do drop them from time to time).

I have to say, the more I see of it the more I like it. The smaller dock connector and the larger, cleaner speaker grills make the bottom of the phone look much neater and more minimalistic. The way the front and back now sit flush with the edges also looks very clean. These higher quality pictures are starting to show off the quality of this design.

It still looks tall to my eyes but that's because I'm used to the old size. I suspect, within a few days, it will start to look perfectly natural and, looking back, the 4S will start to look a bit short and stubby. That's just how perception works.

Final point - does anyone else feel like the white one is starting to look really sexy? I may go for a white one for the first time if it's as nice as it seems.

Nah, a few mm wider max would not be a problem but would visually be a big improvement in size (especially if done at 3:2 ratio). You would gain from far more easily read text on websites/books and bigger video when horizontal since things like youtube, which lets face it is the most commonly viewed video on a phone are rarely as wide as 16:9 ratio anyway. In-fact most youtube videos on this bigger 16:9 phone will not come out any larger! This is why it seems an odd choice.

It's getting old but here's a quick photoshop mock-up I did with a 4.3" screen - the phone size would not increase dramatically and if they tapered rather than squared the edges it may even be easier to hold and operate.

Maybe for 2013 :(

Gotcha. I tend to be clumsy with my phones, not terrible, but with with my 4 being the first glass screen I'd ever owned I figured I'd try to protect it better. Obviously that doesn't apply to all :D

Having thought about it - if this design is legit then that screen is probably using the old tech LCD + glass, the new thinner, integrated screen (probably not available at that stage) would most likely sit near flush as the rear glass does and match with the new bevelled antenna.

This would then make the production phone even thinner than suggested in this report, nearer 6mm and potentially the thinnest smartphone out there... Voila! - USP for Apple "Thinnest phone on the market!" "Thin is the new big screen!" etc. Considering the overall design is a little "meh" to say the least it does need something to get people excited.

The article has been updated and on one of the photos the phone clearly has the new thinner screen, so it will "only" be 7.6 mm thick. Still 18% thinner than iPhone 4S.

No chance. This is the new phone. Apple already use the best batteries so it will require lower voltage screens to make that difference. They are already pissing off case makers with the new charger slot. So that guarantees one new size. NFC and LTE will be built in. Might get a storage bump but with the push to LTE its not really going to be that beneficial going forward.

APPLE dont do "controlled leaks" thats a completely ridiculous concept.

They can do and have done many things to gain media coverage, specially if it is free and increases momentum for the launch day.

How confident are you that these pictures and videos are not from a fake product? Why can't it be a planted fake leaked part?
Apple is known to have people working on fake projects to test their internal loyalty and find 'leakers', after the bar incident I believe that anything can happen.

The different size grilles at the bottom are not very "Apple", are them? Even one is the microphone and the other is the speaker, the lack of symmetry looks weird.

Do you honestly think apple has a "Black Ops" department. dressed in black knocking up fake iphones and leaking them out.

Apple cant do this because it would make for a very uncomfortable share holder meeting when they have to explain the ridiculous shenanigans they have been upto...let alone the issues with their legal department.

This is the new iphone and you would have to be STUPID to think anything else with 5 weeks until release. And the asymmetric holes are whats called a design compromise. Its better to have more for better sound fidelity than to cut them for pure aesthetics.

Fortunately, this type of thinking doesn't prevail at Apple, otherwise we would have never had an iPhone in the first place.

Motorola Razzr - 7.1mm
iPhone 5 - 7.6mm
Galaxy SIII - 8.6mm
Galaxy Nexus - 8.94mm
iPhone 4S - 9.3mm
----------------------
iPod Touch 4G - 7.2mm
iPod Touch 2G - 8.5mm

I have an iPod Touch 2G and this thing is flat, really flat, and if the iPhone will be thinner, Oh WoW

The Razr still has got this big bump which brings the thickness over 10 mm. So if this is true, the new iPhone will be the thinnest smartphone on the market.

You are the person writing about a black ops department. It is well known that Apple has employees working on fake projects.
Why someone who thinks different from you would be STUPID?

OK. If you say so.

and the moon landing was faked.
