Throw me in the category of "how can this be the nano". It just doesn't make sense. How do these people know its for the nano?
Since they will axe the ipod shuffle

this is more ipod shuffle than nano, but the name fits it better than shuffle-btw this nano will be VERY different from previous models+and the shuffles never had a screen-this ipod will

What!? Same price as current line!? That's an INCREASE in the price per gram! What a rip-off!! Shame on Apple!! :D

Given the way Apple's pricing has been headed lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they eliminated the $59, $79, and $99 price points and kept the least expensive one at $149.

What has Apple done lately to make you think that? Rumors of the iPad at $799-$999 only to have Apple bring it out beginning at $499 in a move that totally surprised everyone?

I still don't understand how this is a nano and not a shuffle. Where's the camera, just introduced last year?

The camera is probably on the new Touch they will introduce. Apple will just push people to a higher price point to get a camera.

It is unlikely this is a shuffle because a touch screen is going to push it out of the sub $100 price zone. Going to add a screen (touch screen to boot) and increase size size of shuffle and keep the price the same. I would be surprised to see them do that. More likely Apple will bump the storage a bit on the shuffle's and keep the price the same.

As for form factor ...... have a hard time figuring out how Apple is going to kill the volume of the nano and still keep battery life high. The shuffle it is easy because nuke the screen (a major battery drain) and it stays up because dropped prower requirements. There are ways to get power back with better SoC and elsewhere but smaller/thinner often leads to issues .

I wouldn't pay $149 for that! They must want everyone to buy the iPod Touch instead. :p

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the new nano. Does anyone really care about the camera on the nano, anyway? I think it was just something to add to the nano to make it look fresh.

In any case, this makes a lot of sense as a nano, but I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I really do think Apple is trying to make everything touch-based. Literally everything. Let's see how far they take it.

They can have my iMac's mouse & keyboard when they take it from my cold, dead hands! :D

people its obvious what Apple is doing. They are making the ipod shuffle/nano so sucky that everyone will buy the more expensive ipod touch, therefor making more profit.

If this really turns out to be the new nano i will burst out laughing!
It will be one of the worst decisions apple will make! If anything they should name this the shuffle and keep the same nano but without the click wheel... THen they will all be touch products which is what is used nowadays.

I still think (case manufacturer red herrings be damned) that this new touchscreen is up to replace the interface, not the form factor, of the new nano. It's big enough to be really awesome in place of a click wheel, and I'm with most others in thinking that nothing this form factor could replace the current nano without upsetting everyone, and nothing this form factor could be cheap enough to be a shuffle.

Put it in the highly unlikely camp, but I'm tossing it out here just the same.

I can't wait for this. My iPhone is smaller than an nano + cell phone, but it's too much to jog with. But I haven't been able to justify spending $150 on the current nano. If it's this small, Apple has my $150.

iPod Watch, here we come! (voice activated playlists, limited navigation capabilities).

What has Apple done lately to make you think that?

the price increase on the Mac mini. Some of the delta steps on the Mac Pro models.

This all hinges on whether Apple wants to exit the shuffle market or not. The legacy iPod volume is going down. Before the iOS era devices the iPods needed to grow for Apple's revenues to grow. Now that have "new" market Apple may be willing to give away the sub $100 MP3 player market.
No one will notice if higher revenue items replace the decrease in shuffle sales.

Apple has stepped out of the printer business, RAID box , and other markets before when they got to be too much of a commodity business.

The purely MP3 player market.... they may be ready to walk away from it at this point. (without a screen you can't really do much with a shuffle other than play audio. Even in audio can't do "Cover Flow" and other Apple audio disco. )

Rumors of the iPad at $799-$999 only to have Apple bring it out beginning at $499 in a move that totally surprised everyone?

$999 iPad? Those were ding-dong rumors by clueless analyst that couldn't analyze out of a wet paper bag.

The iPad had to cost less than a MacBook. It was going to be less than a MacBook so it couldn't be price equally or more. It was clearly aimed at netbooks (without exactly mimicking them ) so needed to go into a similar price point. There are few $799 netbooks so it would not have succeeded against them. Likewise there were numerous tablets in the pipeline (ChromeOS and others) that were already aim at that the $499-799 space. To price significantly above would have given them a window (same reason there is a shuffle to not give competitors umbrella effect). Finally, there was a huge pricing gap between the Touch and MacBook. Only the myopic couldn't see that.

There is not gap between lower end Touch and Nano. People are trying to create a gap by moving the Nano down somehow so that Touch can move down also. That's just not likely. The new low end Touch will likely be "last year's" Touch and likely not going to push it into the sub $199 range. ( They will likely trim some flash out of "last year's" model down to the 8GB just to squeeze it into $199. There is little else to throw out to radically trim costs.

Apple can also use more expensive flash to bump up the price of the new Nano so it keeps the price point.

Just like the white iPhone 4, the more popular black will be available now, the rest, later this year.

Lol

Apple sorta gave it away that there was going to be a delay on the product, they're still advertising Sept 7th on the Back to School promo and the event is Tomorrow.

This new iPod Nano will have bluetooth, and instead of the rumored shuffle-like clip, a detachable watchband, so with bluetooth headphones, your Nano is a wrist-worn wireless iPod. ;) The mini touchscreen makes sense when you don't have to hold it.

Doesn't Everyone realize Every year the craziest rumor always come out right before an ipod event-like last's years camera's in the ipod classic and ipod shuffle lol :D Some are crazy some r real-but this one is just plain CRAZY

This cannot be a new shuffle! If you introduce an interface, it's functions start to increase and it's no longer just a shuffle.

I think Apple will bump everything down a step. Shuffle is eliminated. It's replaced by a cheaper, square Nano. The Touch is then bumped down to a slightly cheaper price point and added camera. Classic stays top.

Classic > Touch > Nano (and no Shuffle)

If Apple introduce a Nano at the price point of the Shuffle, they will make a killing!!

Oooh, bad move if true. PMP prices have been so cheap lately, in addition to everyone already HAVING iPods, that it would take a cheaper price point for people to buy something they can get cheap or have already.

I think its going to be the new nano, and even though everyones hating on it right now, theres gonna be something cool as **** on it that we never thought of and everyones gonna change their mind. I'm calling it.
